I didn’t think I would actually miss Omegle if it got shut down, but now it has been shut down and probably will never be coming back, it’s quite sad and it’s the end of an era. I’m happy that the creator of the site created it to intend to have good purposes on people, but of course there would be people going onto Omegle to abuse it. Although it’s actually quite said that Omegle has been shut down, maybe it was for the best. RIP Omegle
I didn't expect Omegle's creator to be so well spoken and philosophical, nor did I realize that Omegle's inception was from a place of idealism that I profoundly agree with. He's absolutely right about people getting increasingly aggressive combative. I feel like everyone is quickly losing their humanity. All anyone can see anymore is the absolute worst in people, and they turn that into some kind of static definer of those people's entire being.
But his point about essentially imposing bans on everyone because of the subset of people who commit heinous acts is paramount. I think there's another massive flaw to this logic, beyond just protecting the freedoms of regular people. People might say that shutting down Omegle is for the best because it stops predators, but the opposite is actually true. Predators don't just stop existing if we hide them from view. We just stop being aware that they're there. I'd argue that Omegle probably actually had a net benefit for combatting predators, because it provided video evidence that could get them arrested. Without that, what do they do? They still prey, just in the shadows, where we can't see it coming. The more we curb our freedoms to try to limit this kind of abuse, the problem will grow and fester in the dark, while we all remain oblivious.

@@spasegeek9214 It's not a strawman, it's pointing out the flaw in the anti-Omegle logic. If the argument is that shutting down Omegle is good because it stops predators, then one of two things needs to be true. Either shutting down Omegle stops people from being predators altogether, or it stops predators from acting on their urges. My point was that neither of those are the case. If someone's going to prey on others, they're still gonna do that if it's not quite as easily accessible, and if society at large ignores the fact that those predators exist, then they'll just fester in the darkness.
Now, if you have a counter-argument of why my 2 conditions aren't all-encompassing, and why Omegle shutting down actually does stop predators, then by all means, share it.
People's own piece of shit behavior is why it had to be shut down. I blame the people for why it happened. They ruined it.
It's not their fault it's simply because it had to shut down because it ran its course

It kills me that this happened. I guess I've been desensitized to the pedos and the nazis since growing up on the internet during it's wild west days. I couldn't count the number of people I've met and had valuable conversations with around the world. I couldn't put a price on the value of how much I have learned about other people and other cultures. The site got me through the covid lockdowns. It seriously depresses me that it's gone.

And I don't buy the arguments of "we need to stop evil people from using it" You take illegal photos with cameras, are we banning cameras and only allow photographers to have them? or putting a device in every camera that sends all the pictures taken directly to the FBI for control? To be honest, I’m glad they shut it down. Just way too many immoral activities going on in Omegle. From creepy pedophiles/incels to serious crimes. It became a breeding ground for all kinds of immorality to happen. besides majority of users didn’t genuinely wanted to go there to talk to people. It mostly the “M or F” chats.

I felt bad when I learned it was shut down.
I'm kind of glad it's shutting down because for me it was mostly bad experiences and it was overrun with
perverts and bots but have mixed feelings. On principal people should be allowed to meet and talk to strangers online but it does create a great environment for abuse, especially abuse of children. At the end of the day it sounds like the owner of the site did what he could to prevent it, and ultimately the responsibility should be on parents and guardians to make sure they monitor their children's internet usage.
