Much spin. Efficiency savings aka cuts were first imposed on the NHS throughout the UK by government and DHSS over 30 years ago. Cuts and underfunding, numerous management/ organisational restructurings and privatisation in the name of efficiency and improvement have continued every year since then. There is no fat in the system apart from unnecessary management systems and structures. Sadly this should be very apparent to everybody given the current terrible circumstances in the UK. Nurses and doctors and health professionals are trained to be advocates for their patients. In comparison NHS Senior Managers are advocates for government and DHSS. NHS England has been described as ‘the biggest Quango in the world’. Politics should have been taken out of the NHS decades ago.
