    All the snow has gone reminding us that everything passes. Once again you share with us the reassuring truth & reality of what is actually going on in the brain...and how to turn down the dial of fear to perceived threat...thus creating new neural pathways for calm & safety. Love to hear Finn gets a free show watching the birds & squirrels...and lovely of you to feed them. Have a wonderful weekend Dan. Love you always...& love & peace to all here.Xx

    I have anxiety ptsd dizziness and this is helping me. Like you said substitute the word pain for whatever symptom you have. It’s not easy as Dan says . I went to the supermarket today and felt sick couldn’t concentrate felt faint. King story if anxiety and a sensitised nervous system. Menopause increased this so for any menopausal ladies out there I’m using Dans approach for everything. Not there yet still got loud symptoms but let’s hang in there x

    Thank you! I started to read Sarno's Mindbody Prescription a week ago and while it's not an easy read, it is so interesting! I was generally aware of his concepts for about a year, but reading it from his own words made a big difference for me. Yes, fear is one thing, but repressed emotions in the unconscious is a big thing for me, probably even more than fear.

    • @christinehorne5165
      @christinehorne5165 10 місяців тому +4

      That is what Sarno taught. Dan teaches that emotions are normal for all humans. That we need to teach our brain they are safe. Yes forgive others, anger feels dangerous, but keep calm. Yes past can be scary but I’m saw today and can make adult choices. I would get scared digging up and reliving the past.

    Fantastic article in the Guardian latest CF research the problem is in the brain “The brain is physically, biochemically not functioning properly and it’s the illness that’s doing that, not the patient.”

    • @PainFreeYou
      @PainFreeYou  10 місяців тому

      Curious - but what's causing the brain to not function correctly? What is the "illness" they are speaking about. My take is that the brain perceiving danger causes it to create symptoms. Learn more here: DansFastStart.com
      Many people are getting well by embracing this perceived danger concept and teaching their brain that they are, in fact, safe. PainFreeYouSuccess.com

    Hi Dan, your videos are helping me through each day at the moment and so thank you from the bottom of my heart for all you do. I have two questions I'd love you to address in future videos:
    1. If we are trying to teach our brain that emotions are safe, what about the emotions surrounding symptoms and health-related anxiety, such as fear, overwhelm, sadness and so on? I have been trying to avoid these emotions so as to not freak out, but I simultaneously worry that this means I am not letting myself feel my authentic feelings.
    2. I would love you to address post-exertional malaise, particularly related to chronic fatigue. I am never quite sure what to do in this state, as doing normal things and living normally as if I am healthy can sometimes make symptoms worse if already fatigued. But alternatively I don't want to lie around all day as though I cannot do anything, as I don't want to teach my brain that I am not safe to do anything. Do you have suggestions as to how to achieve a good balance when symptoms are already running-high because of exertion?
    Thank you so much.

    • @1STBUCKLEY
      @1STBUCKLEY 10 місяців тому

      My take: no.1. Emotions are emotions end of. You should acknowledge them but remind yourself you are safe.
      Try Dare by Barry McDonagh. Dan recommended his book, same principles as Dan but solely anxiety, sensations etc. app is brilliant. Sometimes they have a 7day trial. I signed up £60 year but the content and support is brilliant.
      You are on the road to getting pain free 👏

    • @Evelienn17
      @Evelienn17 10 місяців тому +1

      Hi there!
      Avoiding emotions isn’t the solution; I’ve been doing that (by avoiding situations and people) and it made the fear worse. Now it’s muchhh better, by letting the emotions just be there, and being with the physical sensations attached to them. I do this by sitting, putting my attention on the emotions/sensations, letting go of the resistance in my body by relaxing my muscles, smile on my face “this is okay, nothing to worry about, I just let it be here”. And then after a bit I go on with my day, whether the emotions and sensations are still around or not (usually they are, seems to take a while to fade out). So the trick (for me) is to stay out of the stories I tell myself. Because these emotions like overwhelm tend to come with so many fearfull thoughts. Now I just look at it as a bunch of sensations playing around in my body. So I’m becoming the observer instead of identifying with stories/thoughts/sensations.
      And I feel like it’s also about getting comfortable with the discomfort. “This feels not really great, but I don’t have to feel great all the time. Even when there’s a whirlwind of emotions, I am safe”.
      Hope this helps:)

    hi, dan! I'm living life more and with that I'm being able to defocus from the pain. However, depression is coming back with a vengeance. What's your advice? thank you very much.

    • @PainFreeYou
      @PainFreeYou  10 місяців тому +1

      Safety. Depression comes from a brain perceiving danger. In my opinion, depression is deep sadness with no hope of it changing. Find some hope and the depression will lift. Observe your stories. Change the stories if the stories are not supporting you. And remember, we don't have to listen to our own thinking. Scroll through the past few weeks of videos. You'll find some on stories, thoughts and talking to your brain. DansUA-cam.com

      There is no way to know. For typical TMS/PDP, people It all depends on the individuals ability to recover from fear. The fact you have improved is evidence that the brain is involved in the process. Keep teaching safety. DansFastStart.com

    • @PainFreeYou
      @PainFreeYou  10 місяців тому +6

      I don't like hard stances like that saying you can't do something. That just creates more fear. If the meds provide a benefit, take them until you don't need them anymore. But tell yourself a better story about the meds. People can and do get well while on meds. Others get well without meds. The presence of meds is not THE determining factor in recovery.

      Thanks Dan, I’ve been wondering the same thing. I’m not on anti depressants but Tramadol and gabapentin to calm the nervous system. I started going to the gym for aerobic exercise, which the PT’s told me not to do for 6 years. They said it would make my hypertonic pelvic floor worse, but doesn’t seem to.

      @@SusanneCunningham-o4c I was on gabapentin because it was helpful as I worked through this inner work to resolve TMS (back pain). Once I got to a point where I observed I had made greater progress, I safely tapered off it and focused on my evidence list that this was indeed TMS. I have also been told by doctors that I need the gabapentin to manage back pain long term. 5 years without the medication and no back pain flares does indicate otherwise.

    Would hypnosis help with messages of safety ?

    • @PainFreeYou
      @PainFreeYou  10 місяців тому +2

      I'm not aware of success stories where they credited hypnosis for the success. It likely also depends heavily on the hypnotist and their knowledge of this process. I'm a big fan of increasing our ability to teach the brain safety ourselves. :-)

    • @PainFreeYou
      @PainFreeYou  10 місяців тому

      I don't keep track of peoples medical diagnosis as it is most often not the cause of the pain. Are you aware of TMS/PDP? Have you taken the assessments to see if it's your brain creating the pain? Your disc bulges may have nothing to do with your symptoms. Watch my fast start in order. Do not skip ahead. Go through the assessments I speak about in the third video.
