And Iowa Traction 51 is older than UP 4014 by quite a few years. You can almost hear little 51 saying "Hey, youngster!" to 4014 as she rolls by. Amazing how things change yet they stay the same. Amazing history contained in one shot!
@@metalheadrailfan Nice! Since April 2018, I have been using a Sony FDR-AX53. Before that, I used a Flip Video that can shoot up to 480p and a Canon Rebel T3i that can shoot up to 1080p.
At 11:37 you hear can a bad wheel bearing on engine 8167, so then they swap it out for engine 3025. Guess they heard it too. When 8167 is running backwards, alone, there is no bad bearing noise. After that it sounds like a bearing needs attention on one of the tenders, and at 20:57 it sounds like it could be the oil tender, perhaps the first auxiliary water tender.
A lot fewer passenger cars after they changed out the diesel loco. Started out with five dome cars and now there is two after the change out. Kinda looks like they left them behind for a reason. I know coming into Minnesota some lines get tight up to the Union Depot and up to Duluth MN (where they really do not have a lot of room) They may be able to pick the cars back up on the return leg (just guessing here) From the minute mark of 1:30 and at 3:40 you see the difference in the car counts It is what it is for now.
In Boone after they dropped off passengers, they did some switching moves and removed a few of the domes for about and hour or so before parking it for the night.
metalheadrailfan Great Catches! I hope you had a great time catching the big boy. I really wish that the big boy will come to Oklahoma. I just subscribed too.
I have an older Panasonic camera. I haven't done much railfanning that involves video in recent years, but I do plan upgrading cameras when I'm able to afford it.
Very nice photography. DO try to follow the engine as it passes you on the next trip. After all, there is only 1 big boy. The UP cars have been in service for years. You recorded history. A first that can never be repeated. Perhaps this, and the work of other rail fans will encourage the restoration of the remaining fleet of Bog Boys and return them to productive service instead of fun and games for the elite.
Around 6:17 you allowed the auto iris to shut the camera down therefor you ruined all shots in the shade. Sort of a shame to lose a chance to record history. 10:43 - that is a spectacular shot. It must have been cold that morning. By the way, did they lose several cars??? "They ain't never gonna be happy." Fine example of US education in the native language. Either that or the illiteracy of the general population. GOOD!!! They kicked the diesel out of the consist. (13:52). OOps!! Oh the indignity, being caught and hauled back by a Diesel. Oh, Woe, Oh such shame. Ahh, retribution. A lowlife diesel is made to wait while the mighty Big Boy charges by. (18:16) Since when do you need to be told that BB is coming. Can't you hear it? 20:50 - Don't like the sound of those clanking rods. Too much clearance. Where are the roller bearings? Hey - Metalfan - you just set the camera up and let it do the work. You don't bother to check the lens for rain drops like any good professional would do. Funny, they stopped to see an old electric trolley car. 37:17 - Low clouds, no visability. Why weren't you paying attention to your camera???

Nice touch with the Iowa Traction electric. Thanks for uploading the video.
At 35:53 that is one hell of an awesome comparison of machinery! The might UP 4014 and the little Iowa Traction 51. Very cool shot, metalheadrailfan!
Yet both the mighty 4014 and the 51 are fit for purpose. And that's Ok.

Love how Big Boy stopped to pose for a quick photo with #51
Thank you for taking the time to film and post this. If anyone complains about the quality.......off with their heads!!!!!!! It was perfect.
Great footage! Makes it look like a 90s/early 2000s video.
The footage looks like something from the 1990s or the early 2000s.
Great video!
Yeah, my camera at the time was Standard Definition. I have upgraded cameras since then.
@@metalheadrailfan What kind of camera did you buy?
@@611Anime Another Panasonic, but upgraded to film 1080p60.

I was wondering what 4014 would look like in a 90s camera! Good job!
i love the 90s film look! Gives the film more "historical" feel
Really like the "analog/vhs/high-8" feel of this video!

I was wondering why they changed locos when I saw it
Thank you for the great train video. Interesting. 👍👍👍👍
This footage style brings back memories of the Pentrex documentaries back in the day. If only they were around to have one for Big Boy's return!
They actually just released a DVD on 4014's inaugural run, "Big Boy 4014 Returns to Steam".
Wait! Pentrax made a new video!!! Awesome!

Loved your Iowa sightings from Illinois. 👍
What's funny is I think the electric locomotive is actually older then 4014

As imagens são apaixonantes! É impressionante ver locomotivas tão especiais restauradas e com essa performance! Parabéns a todos pela iniciativa.
Why does this video look like it’s from the 90s lol

Nice steady video would have been nice where in Iowa footage was shot, very long lead in before train appears

Heavy steam needs to be hauling heavy revenue cargo, grease and sooty. Not sitting in museums.
Where is 4:31? Grand Junction?
Yes
only slow speed whats wrong why are there no high speed runs from 4014
Do you know what the train symbol is
The symbol would be P-OMBO
@@evanwaters1074 Thank You

Good, long video. Could have used some "editing" for a better presentation. Every car of a long freight, really?
His style of video and he did what ever he wants to do
