What I would give to go to the 80's and see them live.
I want to go back to the 80s. We were all so happy back then, not like in this divisive woke dystopia now.
Do you think any of this kids truly knew they were witnessing one of the best guitarists of all time?
@@ninstendo1416 it is called bass guitar for a reason, lmao. i know who andy rourke is, that is who inspired me to pick up the bass guitar.
@@whispersinvenice yeah but u don't call someone who plays bass a guitarist. They would be a bassist
That bassline and lead melody fit like a glove, every member of The Smiths played their part and none of them could be replaced. They were an absolute masterclass - what a fuckin band.
I fucking love how he just lays on the floor and Johnny marr looks over like "wtf are you doing"
Morrissey, Marr, Rourke, and Joyce made great music together for a short period of time. The Smiths will live on forever.
Good god this is better than the album. The first time I heard this I was like this is it. This is the sound I’ve been looking for. Absolutely incredible.
Glad to see I’m not the only one. When I first heard this song it fit into my brain like a puzzle piece, like I’d just been waiting to hear it my whole lifr
England is mine and it owes me a living - still relevant
England used to be a superpower, England used to be so cool, but now it lacks a backbone, a spine, I despise the Anglos.
Very very underrated bassist Andy rouke you beast
Not at all underrated by those that care, but often unnoticed in general - but that's the fate of most bass players. They're glue, not veneer.
This band is so singular
There is no such a band like The Smiths
The guitar, bass, drums and vocals are so exquisite in a lovely way
Probably the most philosophical Smiths song, if you ask me
I'm often suprised the lyrics (and music) of Still Ill doesn't receive more praise.
Yes, as we see Morrissey is trying to address the mind body problem in this song.
@@SycFuk2000 'Struggling' with his sexuality or with society's negative view of it. It used to be thought of as an illness and still is by many religious so he's asking if it's ok to be himself or is he regarded as ill.....asking "am I still ill?"
Rourke and Marr were so fucking precocious!!! They were 18-19 and sounding like this.
That beat with that freaking bass line is off the rails
When the guitar kicks in at 00:14 it gives me chills!
Guitar, bass, Drum,, and voice... ❤
This song will always remind me of summer 2020, when I was alcoholic and living in a basement. The Smiths music is honest about the fact that life for most people is shit, and we must dig for itty bits of beauty.
So refreshing after all those years! The music of the Smiths is the pinnacle of human achievements.
This makes me cry, in the best way possible
The bass and drums are tighter than a Nuns quim.
@Alvaro Aguilar Wow, yes how funny, a vulgar, disgusting joke. To a video of Morrissey/The Smiths. Tasteless!
@@meow6766 Get away from here!! It's so obvious, that Morrissey would 100% agree with me
I am the most politically correct person I know and this band is tighter than my sphincter.Well said Stuff
RIP Andy! 🙏
When I was a teenager in the 80s only 1 radio station played this. I fell in love with new wave like Smith's, soft cell, etc. So exciting when a new song came on and you recorded it on your cassette lol
Always a classic. Lyrics are timeless, beautiful and haunting. I miss these less complicated days.
Jonny turning away when Morriseey lays on the floor ha ha. I love them all, legends.
and i should know because i've seen them, but not very often ... *spins*
The crowd sitting there with faces looking like ʕ ͡°ʖ̯ ͡°ʔ if they only knew then how lucky they were!!
Can you imagine if Morrissey died in 1987 he would be an absolute God.
@@pedromendivil1616 Nah, he's the saviour of the UK. And sometimes it takes an asshole.
I see they wheeled the audience in from the local cemetery !
21 years old Johnny! wow
Some bands you just NEED to learn and respect the individual names of the members because they’re so impressive on their instruments. The Smiths are one of those bands.
One Voice, One Guitar, One Bass, One Drum Kit. Just add Talent.
Markee Ledge what do you mean just add talent? They have it already
Such a talented Lyricist, they're awesome. The lead guitarist will always be my favorite.
Absolutely beautiful. Thank you for uploading this gem.
God bless these four men!
The Smiths foi um sonho, muito pena quê acordamos.
Está canción me salvo la vida ❤️
I decree today that life is simply taken and not given!
The people in the front who are watching with no expressions what so ever probably had no idea how to react to such a fresh and original band. They were probably so used to average 80s acts so seeing The Smiths was like some fucking fever dream for them.
"Average 80's acts????" You need an education. Start with Aztec Camera, move on to The Specials, Spandau Ballet, Human League
Most of them had no clue as to what great songwriting and skill they're witnessing
I didn’t think the audience was going to clap at the end. I thought they’d just snap their fingers once in enthusiasm for the band. Epic.
Hermoso.
The guitar sounds better than on the album version, and also, what he's playing on his guitar is so clever the chorus part just makes me feel so good inside and it's like just a few notes lol ♥
indeed, anyone can play a lot of notes fast, the art is cutting them down to the ones that really matter at the right moment.
And thanks I literally just woke up and I could really listen to this song right now! :)
1 min 30 secs-mozza collapses
1 min 48 secs -the saviour is resurrected
THERE ENDETH THE REWRITING OF THE ONLY REAL BIBLE STORY
I think his perfectly coiffed hair was just too heavy for his then-undermuscled frame
i luv this song !
One would think the crowd is disinterested, but indeed they were in awe. As I would be.
God I fucking love Morrissey on this one
Comment j'aime cette chanson🤩
Andy played that bass like a back up guitar which further added to the melody.
@@leobass8259 you can literally hear the 2 different melodies playing at once
Eterno andy ❤
Pero ya no podemos aferrarnos a los viejos sueños...
R.I.P Andy ❤️❤️
best band ever
Man what a band

WHEN HE FELL ON THE FLOOR I STARTED DYING 😭😭😭
Genius
Look at those girls looking at Morrisey. "I'm not supposed to fancy a man like this. what's going on?"

Best band ever
I think this live is the best version of this song.
Ritmo + candides = The smiths
Unforgettable rythm of the Nineties
@@zulutwenty5546 to be fair, 90s music was largely a reproduction of 80s indie rock such as The Smiths, Replacements, Husker Du, Housemartins
i wanna live my 20s there :(

" England Is Mine !" -Steven Morrissey
Excellents bassiste et batteur aussi . Excusé du peu.
Never a huge Morrissey fan, I get why people like him, but just not for me. But The Smiths as a band are just beyond
Literally from my soul
The Smiths crushed this performance more than Morrissey crushed those flowers!!
Johnny seems to be be struggling with the tempo throughout. This was a very bass-heavy mix on the Tube - I think it was geared towards the highlight of this performance, which was the preview of Barbarism, which followed.
This is an amazing version

1. still ill 2. what difference does it make 3. handsome devil 4. girl afraid 5. big mouth strikes again 6. hand in glove 7. the queen is dead. 8. how soon is now 9. frankly Mr shankly 10. I want the one I can't have. are the top ten smith songs no order lol
It's impossible to rank The Smiths songs, they're all great. Please Please Please let me get what I want, That joke isn't funny anymore....
wew that bass sounds good
People wonder why they were so good with bass lines like that and Johnny's riffs Morrissey singing and lyrics and a awsome drummer only comparison for me is the Stone roses 🌹 no1 else compares in my Salient opinion fcking brilliant a clean tone also so no mistakes in performance I'm a guitarist been in a band and no distorted tone every mistakes are so much more noticeable
2022
I grew up with Meat is Murder and The Queen is Dead. I've only discovered earlier Smiths songs in the last few years, this is probably my favorite.
Had to listen to this to wash the bad taste of 'spent the day in bed' out of my mouth!

Does the body rule the mind? or Does the mind rule the mind? IDK...
Seems he is.
That's why I like England.
England is yours,Morrissey
Johnny marr looks so cute with turtle necks
what's with the flower's in the pocket?
Johnny Fucking Marr and Stephen Patrick Morrissey.
*England is mine, and it owes me a living*
R.I.P. Andy
The crowd is literally just standing there. Smh
grizzay fourthousand cool kids in the back are dancing!!! Bless them
Wendy Gutierrez I forbid you if you twerk to this music, get the fuck out of here.
I wish they'd kept it together and made a few more albums. Morrissey's solo work has been hit and miss. His last couple of albums have been kinda weak.
I know it's over, still I cling..
Morrissey Rules!!!! Take that Justin Bieber! Tattoos don't make the man!
The besta version
Young Kiefer Sutherland on bass there.
Andy Rourke's bass play is the secret key of The Smiths's sounds
I agree 100%
Yes!
He's solid, but Marr told him what to play....so...
@@RoperTunes although I don't know about their detail process, I understand that because everyday I'm telling my band's bassist what to play.
@@RoperTunes I have seen fans say this before but it’s not true. Marr did iirc a Reddit AMA and someone asked him about the basslines and he said it was “100% Andy”. Marr wrote the songs so ultimately I give him the most credit but Andy’s bass playing is really kinda my favorite part of the band. Like if this group had the other 3 and some average bassist they still would be pretty great but Andy’s bass playing is what really puts them over the top as an all time great band.
