YO Richard -- thanks a grand for creating this video from your WYR100 2023 adventure. I am grateful that we were able to fall in together shortly after sunset around Pickle Pass for the last ~17 miles "We've come this far, we have to make it." Amen! Your bright flashlight - quarter mile beam! Then we picked up Chris Bone around four miles later. "At Wit's End" is fine place to be when you've earned it. The last 900' hump along with crossing those four "creeks" was the epitome of "Burly." That Golden Hour finish was the icing on the cake. It was a kick to see your family out there crewing for you. What a treat to relive this event through your movies and narration. Thank You for making this finish possible for me. I worked "behind the scenes" during the 2024 edition of WYR100, including setting up Aid Stations and working the Deadman Peaks mile 75 AS, we had runners from the early AM through ~8pm on Day 2... John Langford (unofficial finisher in 2022) and I swept / deflagged the course from mile 84- Finish. We experienced those "new miles" in full daylight and on fresh legs -- it's a delightful change from Pickle Pass ... no super-tall weeds/grass, no crossing that horrible 8' deep gorge, no Mississippi River crossings ... just a lot of excellent, well-marked trails including a couple rewarding elevation challenges. Come back in 2025 ... I plan to experience the event from the Pacer / Volunteer perspective. Cheers!
Oh man Pat I’m glad you were able to find the video. That was one hell of an adventure and I’m glad you and Chris were there. I’d love to get back up there and do some sweeping and aide station work.
Great video! I completed this race in 2022! Denis is a great guy and RD! I was chuckling as you described how hard a climb it was to get up to the top of Dead Man Peak; that steep climb, to this day, with that many miles under my belt up to that point, fully exposed to the hot sun, is was one of the most difficult things I've experienced! I chuckled at your climb up to Pickle Pass - that was a killer section! From Pickle Pass to the finish was such a long grind, hoping and wondering if you were on the trail! Awesome race, awesome video, and congratulations to you!
@@SeeRichardRun I think I made it at least a few miles down the north side of Pickle Pass before the sun went down; we still had plenty of miles to do in the dark - that section to Rim Rock seemed to never end!
Denis helped organize a magnificent 50K in Olympia WA, so I'm familiar with his penchant for torturing us poor ultra runners...;-) I'd love to do this race sometime and be proud you made it my friend. I'd run any of Denis' races and I love how low-key they are: no starter's gun, no start or finish "line", etc. Running has priority, not fanfare...
Ha ha yeah I remember him saying something like ‘the start line is going to be this bush’ 🤣. Extremely organized and one of the best race websites out there. The course description that he put together with pics/videos is just amazing.
@@SeeRichardRun Yeah Denis kicks ass. My race had a similar infernal climb near the end too-nearing the top I swore I'd never run another ultra again. So you're saying you'd run another of Denis' races again, or even this one once more? I'm trying to find the right 100 miler to run now-my first.
@@BeardVsTheWorldUK1 I would definitely run this one again. Maybe in a couple years. I have dreams of running it with my boys but they are only 1 and 3 right now ha ha.
Nice work, way to grind it out. That trail from Little Greys-Pickle Pass-Rimrock is really tough to follow even in the daylight (well it gets better after Slide Lake I guess). Grizzly country too! Denis is a good dude, not surprised he offered you his headlamp. Fun fact: Deadman Peak (and Creek) are named after an incident where a horse rustler was hunted down an shot there by the person he stole the horses from. The main trail to Jackson Hole from points south left the Greys near Deadman Creek, went up and over Telephone Pass and down past Bailey Lake to the Snake River.
Appreciate it. Yes that last section took forever. Are you from that area? My family homesteaded on the eastern side outside of Daniel. In the intro of the video that is Horse Creek where we camped during the race. We built two cabins on Beaver Ridge in the early 80’s. Thank you for the Deadman trivia, I love learning things like that about that area.
@@SeeRichardRun Both sides of my family are from the Star Valley area. My grandpa was a hunting guide on Greys River most of his life. I tried to get a similar 100 miler going up there. It actually shared that part of the course (Willow Creek) on the way to Jackson, but it ended up being a dud (search "Elkhorn 100" on Ultrasignup). Daniel's a neat town!
Strong work on your run Richard!! I appreciate you putting this up!! I am running the Wyoming Range 100 on August 9th this year. I have seen your video a few times now and watched a bunch of your training videos. I follow you on Instagram as well. It is difficult to find videos so see the Wyoming 100 course, so this content is great!! Congratulations on making something super difficult look casual, and bringing your family along to crew you and be a part of a great adventure!!
Appreciate it. It was Ana amazing race and I hope I can do it again one day. I know this years course is slightly different, but will still be an epic adventure. Shoot me an update when you finish.
Congrats to you, Richard. That Pat fellow, Patrick Grengs, we finished Tahoe200 together back in Sept 2018 and have remained close friends since. I paced him 75 miles at Infinitus 100 in Vermont and we met again at Ghost Train Ultras last month.
Awesome job. Congratulations on finishing the race. It is a truly brutal course and a one of a kind challenge. I don’t know if you remember me but I was bib 5 I’m pretty sure I ran the last few miles into McDougal gap with you. I was thinking of you as a ran on. I’m glad you managed to finish. That final climb up Pickle Pass was truly awful
Mission accomplished. You did a great job out there in the wilderness of Wyoming. I was following you on the screen. Very tough Race. Amazing views pure nature steep climbs and a ton of work you put in to reach the goal. Love it. Salut from Germany
Awesome job out there! I find it so interesting how we all find (what I call) trail buddies out there in the depths of a race. Even if it's just that person you see on and off and give encouragement too. It doesn't matter age, race, religion, size, political beliefs, experience (what else is there), in that moment you are one in the same and have a common goal. I also find it interesting how you start to lose your mind a little out there (as you mentioned). Amazing effort and such a huge accomplishment. Congratulations!
Congrats! This is epic. You make me want to go back and take on this race again. I think you were the only finisher from Texas this year. Great video!! Hope to see you at some Texas races.
Congrats! Great video and thanks for sharing. May I ask where you park the camper? I am considering running the race this year and trying to figure out the logistics.
First question would be are you attempting this race solo or do you have a crew? I had my family camp at the Horse Creek trail head (which is nowhere near any aid station). It’s nearly impossible for a crew to hit every aid station so decide if you want them to stick to the east side or west side of the range. Then from there you could pick an aid station for them to post up at and potentially move camp to the finish line as the race goes on. If you are by yourself park at the finish and find a ride to the start. There was talk last year about folks coordinating carpooling to the start. If you have any more specific questions I’d be glad to help.
Thank you for the information. I will most likely travel with my family. But I am not sure if they will be crewing. Carpooling or a bus scheduled would definitely helpful.
Just came across your channel, watched the video, and subscribed! Epic adventure and race. I'll have to keep this one in mind even though it's a 7 hour drive for me here in Northern Colorado. Thanks for sharing and congratulations!

How wild. Yeah he is a strong runner. Spent a few dark hours with him. Glad he was there that's for sure.
Great run review. Looked amazing!!! Thank you!!!
Thanks for watching!
Awesome video! Just signed up for the race in 2024! I’m super excited. One question, at around 14:10, did you pass gas? 😂
Ha ha yes, couldn’t really hear it but a big burp. I had elevation bubble guts 😂

Yes I remember! And yes pickle pass was a bitch ha ha. You just have left McDougal before me? That was one hell of an adventure.
What glasses at 7:22?
Love the video and looks like an amazing course
It was amazing. I’ll have to check on the glasses. They are just some cheap ones.

Thank you sir. I was running with a guy from Frisco, I think there was a guy in front of us from San Antonio (or somewhere southern).

You didn’t make the cut because your walking. It’s a race !
You must not have watched the whole video…that’s okay though. I own a buckle that says otherwise 💪

Worth the drive. I would even do this race again...even with driving from Waco, TX
