Thorsten Kutschke and his expedition team reach one of the oldest cities in the world on their way along the Old Silk Road: Samarkand in Uzbekistan! Legendary setting of the fairy tales from the Arabian Nights and one of the largest, most beautiful and richest cities on earth until the Middle Ages. In the middle of the desert you marvel at the magnificent buildings from the heyday of Islamic architecture: Registan Square with its impressive madrasas and artistic mosaics, the "Street of the Dead" in the Shahi Sinda ensemble. "Anyone who hasn't experienced Samarkand hasn't seen the world," says filmmaker Thorsten Kutschke, deeply impressed.

He experienced what life was like for the Uzbeks three decades after the collapse of the Soviet Union in the suburbs, the so-called "Machalas" and in the hustle and bustle of the legendary Samarkand cattle bazaar.
Then it goes where the BIWAK team has always felt most comfortable: In the mountains. “Tien-Shan” - the mountains of heaven, is what the locals call the longest mountain range in Central Asia, stretching from eastern Uzbekistan through Kyrgyzstan far into China. At the Great Chimgan, a three-thousander peak not far from the Uzbek capital of Tashkent, the crampons are strapped on - and with a local mountaineer, it's a sweaty and demanding alpine climb skyward into the Heavenly Mountains.

@@ARDReisen tatsächlich hatte ich die Reise nach Zentralasien für 2023 geplant, evtl. muss ich die Reise wegen meiner Arbeit auf 2024 verschieben.
Ich war beruflich schon lange in Asien unterwegs und habe zwei Jahre in China und zwei Jahre in Taiwan gelebt.

Ich war 2008 tatsächlich für einige Wochen in Tadjikistan, ich kann die Begeisterung für die Region durchaus verstehen, mit dem Zweirad muss es natürlich noch besser sein. :)
