Pedals and Effects: Tensor by Red Panda

  • Pedals and Effects has nothing but love for Red Panda, we've featured just about every pedal they've put out! Kurt and the crew in Detroit are on the cutting edge and we always make a point to stop by when we're passing through on tour. So when we caught wind of something new brewing in the lab, we were super curious and we knew that whatever it was, it would be great. That time is now, and the next great Red Panda effects pedal is the sampling and time warping, Tensor.
    This video was shot and edited by Scott Ward for Vato Negro Productions.

    Still one of the best things ever. I run two of them. One in the chain to use on it's own and another tha I run in the FX loop on one of my delay pedals to do pitch shifted repeats, incredible reverse delays and time stretching sounds.

    For about 3 or 4 months every 2 years I unhealthily obsess over effects pedal..almost to the point of looking for support groups on pedal addiction. I spend about 2 grand and use each effect for maybe 2 hours at best.

      That doesn't sound like it has anything to do with pedals, and more with spending money on shopping. No doubt i could be wrong, but it (kinda') doesn't seem healthy to me --if this isn't an extreme exaggeration about only using ALL new pedals for only two hours.;

    The design they use on cars is similar to the dazzle camouflage they used to use on battleships before the days of widespread radar. The idea was to make it difficult to judge the size, shape, and direction of a ship when viewed through a periscope. It does basically the same thing on cars; makes it hard to judge shapes and proportions.

    great explanation of this totally coogot pedal guys, thx. I'm a bit disappointed that you didn't actually play Row Row Row your Boat using that effect however, that would have been boffo. I'm doing it here however, so thx for the inspiration :) Yah, the perfect ending would have been for the three of you to play the funkiest, weirdest, trippiest version of row your boat ever. Too late though, i'm doing it now and i'll sell it back to ya'll for youtube credits. PS..appreciate your mention of Fripp and Belew, two of my fav innovative and original guitarists of the 20th century. You are, by the way, Nick, one of my favourite guitarists of the 21st century. Did you also do a run down of the particle Pedal by same company? I'll look for it in your stream, thx again.

    • @ZakiWasik
      @ZakiWasik 3 роки тому

      @@vernal6944 my frustration mainly stems from using stereo keyboards and synthesizers with guitar pedals. Taking for example a piano patch and collapsing it to mono creates all kinds of comb-filtering issues. And even if the piano patch is maybe not the most likely sound to use with a Red Panda, you will probably play it sometime during the set and even with the Red Panda (or any other pedal with mono inputs) disengaged, you would literaly have to re-patch your setup mid-set to get stereo.

    • @vernal6944
      @vernal6944 3 роки тому

      @@ZakiWasik Aaaaa.....I see. Stereo into mono never works. Agreed. What could you do.... hmmmm. I would ask if you have a send and return but I know from my experience with my stereo effects on my amp if I put a mono pedal in the loop it will destroy the stereo sound before it so that wouldn't work either really I don't think. Is there any way that you could just go ahead and run any sounds you may run into the red panda as mono initially? And then that into a stereo Reverb or whatever? Then when you want stereo for everything else you just switch back to stereo and cut the panda out of the chain (EHX TRI PARALLEL MIXER perhaps)? But I'm guessing that's unrealistic especially live. But... with a tri parallel mixer, mayby not. All you would have to do is play your piano in mono for a song and run that through the try parallel mixer to the red panda, and when you go on to the next song that you want (in stereo keys, piano, etc...) you just switch your keyboard back to stereo and cut out the red panda with the tri parallel . Other than that I can't really think of anything. I agree though, the red panda should be in stereo and would actually benefit me a lot more that way also. Who knows, maybe one of the developers will read this ne day. One can dream anyways I guess.
