The truth is when you see me you see a mixed woman, but visibly black. It’s rare mixed children identify with their other side. I could be mixed or a light skinned black woman. Never ever am I white. It also usually comes with a tremendous amount of judgement and preconceived notions. What you see is what you get and no one’s business otherwise. I've been working around Filipinos for at least 35 years now. There are those that are very nice, sweet and kind-hearted. Then there are those who are stuck up, and extremely racist towards anyone that is not Filipino, especially if they're black. But once you remind them (the racist one's) that the Aboriginal peoples of the Philippine Islands were part African with a coal black skin tone, and coarse wooly hair, their eyes will get big, their mouths will drop open, and they will look like they want to run away as if they are ashamed because they know this to be the absolute truth. They know their history, and when you tell them it straight to their face, they get quiet, leave you alone, and go about their way, knowing that they can't bully you, or intimidate you. They know you've put them on notice, and that they can't put you down because you are black because they have black ancestors too. I've had war veterans, as well as some Filipinos who were honest individuals state that their African ancestry is factual.

As far as we are having to exist with the societal premise of race - as a matter of fact, someone with one white parent and one black parent is biracial. Even a life experience impacted by the black side, doesn’t change this. Ethnic identify cannot be perceived as pejorative by oneself, even if it is meant as such, it takes away from your whole self to have to rewrite the facts of birth.

I honestly don't even know what to call myself anymore!! Being a child born of a black father and white mother but doesn't look black nor white. Can pass for Hispanic, Middle Eastern, Spanish, etc. I've experienced racism from everyone, black, white, hispanic and middle eastern people. I could probably write a book on the many racist events in my life and then have enough material to write a follow up book. I have always identified as being black, but the messed up thing is my people are the ones who treat me the worse all through my 40+ years in life, right up to a few weeks ago. Racism is never going to end in America, because people talk about it too much in the media and try to blow it into a bigger story than it really should be to stir up the conversation. Yes, racism should be discussed when an unarmed black man gets shot in the back, or how years of oppression has not allowed the black families in America to attain wealth....But, so what she doesn't want to be called Bi-Racial, why do you have to make a story of it? We are fed unnecessary BS into our brains by not only the white media, but our own media for a like or a subscriber. Start talking about things to help us as a people, because this is a useless topic of 7+ minutes that we could use to talk about something that is more prevalent. Ok, that's the end of my rant. I know many fair tone black people, that would get offended if you call them biracial. If a man can say they feel more like a woman and go by a female pronoun. Paula made some good points and here’s a little history for those who may not know. When I was in 11th grade in my U.S history class(this was in our history books), we learned that biracial people were used to divide black people. However the context Paula is using it in isn’t fully accurate. The way that biracial people are favored over full black people is why they were used to divide us. But in todays day and age the term biracial is not divisive, it’s corrective. It’s tone deaf to label people of two races as one. And also disrespectful to people of said races. We need to make the distinctions as to not treat offspring as the parent race. Black is a parent race meaning in order to even produce a biracial child, one of your parents would have to be fully black to begin with. A black person cannot produce white children only biracial or mixed kids. And in Paula’s case her son is 75% white therefore he is white. People need to stop being disingenuous about why they identify as black. It has less to do with actual pride and more to do with proximity to whiteness. Biracial people identify as black because they know they will be seen as the ideal black by white people and black people(that is if they have the stereotypical biracial look). This may not be the case for older generations of biracials(circa: pre 80’s) but it is definitely the case for biracials today. You do not have to pick a side, you are both.

That's true in a perfect world but in America biracial people are going to be seen as black, when filling out a job application there is no separate section for biracial. I don't know where some of y'all are from but you are not both in America. Like someone said earlier the cops are not going to look to see if you biracial and give you a pass, they see you as a ninja, just like the white cop that shot the kid in Minnesota he was biracial and it didn't save him although she was found guilty. The way I look at it if they biracial and the down for the cause I have no problem with them identifying as black but if they black when it's convenient then I have a problem.

Please do not let saditty Paula Patton speak on the behalf of all biracial cause she does not. She has every right to label herself the way she was brainwashed to do. But society does not determine jack shit in this decade. The word biracial has been around for centuries and there is no human being on this planet that would force me to denounce my white father for a one-drop rule created by white supremacy and adopted by black people to not feel separated from their biracial counterparts. Many of us do not exclude our black side by saying biracial. Biracial means both and if you are old enough to say the word you are old enough to understand it means both. I was born both, I will die both and there is nothing society will nor can do to change that. I can cuss you out in Ebonics and German, try me. Don't nobody @ me about the Ebonics either. However coming home to Florida they would treat me as a foreigner. My own family and fellow Latinos around me always treated me like I was one of them but not quite. It still burns my heart everyday but it’s nothing I can change today. I can only change people minds and show them how we truly come in so many diverse ways. Just my personal opinion.
You cannot just accept one part of life
Her mother was wrong. She might look black. But internally she' knows she's not fully black. Accepting only half of yourself. Brings upon insecurities . She did not create herself, her father and mother created her.
And just because the black side of life except her doesn't mean she should deny the other part of her life.
That's just like a mixed woman passing for white and/ or mix black woman passing for black. Mix Women need to learn how to accept themselves.
. There's your example they never knew she was mixed. Until she illustrate it. they're they were stunned because they thought she was fully black.
That means : The black people are only accepting you because they think you're fully black. You know how much good you can do as a bilingual employee
    Think about it

I respect people to be called what they want to be called. I am not a geneticist. It's not my place to ask "what are you" nor are you obligated to give me your heritage or ancestry. If we are getting to know one another and you want to be forthcoming with those facts I will respect it and accept it in the spirit it is offered. We have to remember to always treat one another with respect, compassion and care. There is only one race and that's the human race. We are the same species as humans that is why we can reproduce regardless of where we come from. We are One.
