I have almost all of those coins and a few not mentioned here. A few Charles and Diana and 1982 Commonwealth Games among others. Also a round 50c. Always loved to collect rare and interesting coins. Thanks for the info
Round 50c coins were brilliant. When the old man went to the pub we used to get 2 bob for spending. The more he drank the more likely we were to get handed a 50 instead of a 20c. Still got a heap of them in my bank money box. Thought we were rich..... then again it was enough for a pie with sauce a coke and some lollies or a bag of chips..... bugger think I got old 🤣😂🤣😂
Having been a bus driver for 30 years starting in 1984 I can tell you some of those mint coins end up on the market from dirt bags that break into homes and steal anything of value. If I had hung onto all the coins you mentioned I’d be reasonably wealthy now, but back then there was no internet. Hindsight 😂😂. I hung onto all the round 50c because I knew they were worth more and kept a large collection of Captain Cooks just because I liked them.
You're right about the dirt bags breaking into homes and stealing anything of value, I worked in pubs for 25 years and I can tell you that a lot of them coins ended up going through the tills of pubs. On a lighter note I've got a bloody good coin collection..............
@@colinfullford8630 👍👍👍
Me old man started collecting during WW2 (railways kid)..
And some bastard knocked most of em off, but left sovs & half sovs!!
He sold the rest before he croaked, obviously he wasn't impressed.
My Mum had around 20ish of the round & that many jubilee ones that I couldn't count. As you said. "dirt bags" broke in somewhere in the early 2000's and cleaned out their property. Eventually (2-3 years ) later, the police caught the scum & called mum n dad based on mums great grandmothers ring. Very unusual design. So she managed to get all the heirlooms back. But her coins were lost in the wind. Very, very annoyingly they all basically got slaps on the wrists & sent on their merry ways to ruin others lives.
A 50 cent UC coin was Kept behalf of me as a souvinear reminder for the year I was Born (1972), never spent for 52 years.
Thinking all these years The 50c coin is one of the rather best looking coins in the World of Currency, A coin that is worth 20X more to mint then just its 50c face Value, it is an Australian Icon and no other coin wil ever match it, it basically put Australia on the Map.
Epic video thank you very much!
I have a 50c coin, had it valued recently at 50c. Was so happy 🎉
Hang onto it! It's the shape of them and they're on the way out.
😂😂😂
Wow, worth nearly as much as you paid for it !
Very helpful , many thanks.
Really liked this video you explain well
Wow finally I can sell my collection. I will certainly check them out. Thank you for the info.🎉🎉🎉
Just started collection so very much appreciated your media coverage
Very informative and easy to understand, thanks for posting this.
Thanks Roseanne. ✨
Thank you for the information, I really enjoyed learning from what you had to say.
Very interesting
Thank you
I got the Captain Cook coin 50 Cent
Thank you for the information, it is verry useful in helping me know what to look for.
Great vid thank you very much.
No worries. 👍🏼
Amazing info, And thank you for Not having any annoying back ground music, Cheers
@Elizabethadams712 it amazes me that anyone falls for your bullshit!
I'm not a coin collector but I have a huge collection of Aussie coins, Pennies and other early era coins but mostly 50c pieces. My father started collecting in 1986 and stopped when he passed away, there's at least 10000 coins, 80% are 50c. As mentioned by another person in the comments, the Charles and Diana coin, I think I have about 150 of those.
I have no desire to sell, I hadn't really thought about the value of the collection until I came across this video randomly in my feed, I knew the collection was worth more than face value but now my head is spinning.
Go buy the Renniks Australian coin & banknote book mate.. you've probably got a few gduns in the collection.
nice will keep an eye out!!! 🎬 👏
Nice thanks great information I have a few round silver coins 👌
Great video and guide. I wish you did more of these types of educational videos
I am looking to do some more UA-cam focussed content. 👍🏼
@@coincollectinganddetecting Nice! I'll make sure to keep tabs on your channel.
Keep up the great work!
Great video, I just recently just found my old coin album I rescued from my parents place, it held from 1 c to 50 c but I also put interesting old foreign coin I came across in it too. I came across this site by accident & am glad I did, I just spent the last hour or so going through a pile of 50 c I had kept in an old jar & I only seem to be missing about 20 coins from the last 57 years & most of them are the rare or hard to find ones, I now have a list & will pay more attention in the future, cheers. P.S I also had 2 round 50c in the album.
Got a 1966 round 80% silver 50cent in change from a vending machine! Great vid 👍
Surprising, most vending machines won't accept round 50 cents.
I never forgot a mate of mine he was a bank Jonny in the 60s he had a shoe box of rolls of round 50 c pieces ,but because his dad was a bad gambler ,his mum took them to buy bread and milk 😢
Very unfortunate situation.
From your informative presentations I have personally found some very low montage coins and others with faults added to my collection. Thank you.
No worries.
@@coincollectinganddetectingI have a H.R.H the Prince of Wales and lady Diana Spencer fifty cent piece from 1981. What do you think it's worth?
I am glad I found this channel. I have been collecting 50c coins because I liked the pictures on them. I’m going to go through them when I get home.
Yeah, it breaks my heart too . When we are children - we don't understand the value in foresight
For coins you can actually clean them by lining your bowl with tin foil sheets, add in hot water and bicarb soda, leave it for about 60 seconds and wipe them off with fine cloth, this can get rid of most of the grease on the coin if you happen to find circulated ones that are not in excellent condition.
This does cause microscopic scratches but not very noticeable on circulated coins. It will make them shinier but may affect valuation.
i just found out today that i still have my eddie mabo 50 cent coin which i got back in 2017 and didn't know that it was extremely low minted until i found this video thanks mate also cheers from melbourne australia
Awesome. Glad the video helped with it’s current value. A good coin to have. 👍🏼
It’s not worth anything though so settle down
The amount or people making dumb comments on this post
Makes me wonder if you all are foreigners?
I have one too 50C 1977
How i can sall this @@coincollectinganddetecting
I used to have pennies from before 1966 I even had a coin from 1778 you could barely read some of it ....but think of the people that held it ... When Australia was founded and I had a coin from when nepolean was Ceasar he'd the Greco reeth on his head ... I had Deutch marks... I had a big collection of coins ...
From memory the 50c round coin of 1966 was worth like 64c in silver in 1966, so it cost more money to produce then what their face value, the reason they stopped making them.
3 of them make up an ounce of silver. Most people buy them for silver value only, if circulated. Silver is about $36 an ounce, so one coin is worth $12. A nice one would go for more, uncirculated would go for a bit
Another reason was that as decimal currency was new, people kept getting a round 50c piece mixed up with the 20c piece so the current shape came into being.
In 1966 50 cents would get you a drink and a meal at a pub, now, it won’t get you a small bag of lollies. You see, a silver coin holds value over time, whereas fiat currency does not. Perhaps why it was written into the Australian Constitution : Chapter V “States not to coin money, nor make anything but gold and silver coin a legal tender in payment of debt.
They actually stopped making them with that amount of silver but the shape was changed bcz of them being so easily mistaken for the 20c piece.
@@buzzzzzz69 or...to show you that your coin has been ‘clipped’ of its value.
Great video mate...l collect a bit, but the old man had the bug..badly!
I have the full set of 2001 50c & 20c coins, all UNC in the mint folder, what would you put the value at?
I just moved into a house where the previous residents had some mental health issues like dementia- they stashed bits of money in parts of the house that are fitted features like the bathrooms mirror- just found 2x $20 notes from the late 1980s behind it!
They must've forgotten about them.
I didn't previously collect coins or notes but now I've caught the bug!
Great info here.
You have another sub.
😊
When I worked as a roofer in the early 90s, if we got the chance, we'd put coins and sometimes coke cans in the walls before the gyprock went up. Perhaps one day someone will find them!
Anything about the 1998 Bass and Flinders coin
I've also a 2001 with no state it's got the coat of arms with Australia below it and with wattle tree background and a large 7 point star above
Woo hoo, I have a 1979 double bar
I have an UN- dated $2 coin. And a very bad misprint 5c piece. I wouldn't mind some info on. Have been offered money for them in the past, but hung on to because I thought they would be worth more in time .
On the second double bar coin, is that an inclusion above the roo head?
When I was in high school in the late 90s. I was shown a round 50-cent piece, and I swapped him my 50-cent piece for it. I still have it to this day 😁
Good swap and we’ll done for keeping it. 👍🏼
A relative used to work for a bank 20 years ago and had a whole bag of misprint 50 cent piece coins. They had 20 cent logo printed on the front and coat of arms normal 50 cent print on the back. Not sure of the year minted. How much would these be worth today you reckon? Cheers
you forgot or you didn't know that the 1988 Tall Ships 50cents has 2 results , the common one you showed and the other one which instead of the ship it has the coat of arms and one sold recently for $15,000
$15000? On EBay? I need to check my old coin
😂
Hey does anyone know which one is a good one to keep an eye out for?
I have a lot of round 59 cent coins! Easy money here I come!
Where do you/sell them to get a reasonable price if you want to try making a few bucks this way.
Great video mate. I actually have a couple hundred of those round 50s. My parents collected them. About quarter of them have green coating on them. What's the best way to clean them, cheers Graham.
Dunk in mixture of warm water and cloudy ammonia. Easy peasy. Google it.
Thanks what about the 1982 commonwealth games coin
I got a Charles and Diana one the other day , good find.
I have one,
Di had one...
Charles is one!
The 1966 Australian 50-cent pieces are absolutely beautiful sadly here in the states particularly the state of Maine they don't pay you a lot for them certainly nowhere near 15 dollars more like six
I have about 30 of the round silver 50's. Some of them hardly circulated
i sadly found out today that my 2001 20c coin is not a rotation error but who knows maybe one day i'll find one
I have a few round ones
Hello
Is there any value for 1981 Prince of Wales and Lady Di 50c or the 2005 world war 1939-1942 50c coin?
I brought a heap of 50 cent rounds for 10 bucks about 5 years ago 😮 !
I have the round 50 cent 1966 coin ( Yr i was born ) my youngsters son of three beautiful amazing kids and twin 💙💜💚 brought me out of his own earned money at 14 ( decreased 2011 at 19 ) 💚😇😭💔
I recall being told back in the late 60's that as the round 50c had a silver content worth more than 50c, this resulted in many being melted down, don't know if that was fact or just a story ??, if true there would be less in circulation than manufactured, resulting in a higher value one would think ??
Oh I have the jubilee coin
I have 5 of the silver round 50 cents... yah!!!
What's the value of the 50c Student coin?
How many of them have you found metal detecting??
I have 50 cent Elizabeth ll, Australia: ( 1975, 1976, 1980, 2000, 2004, 2007, 2010 (2 coins ), Good Condition, Thanks
i have a1969 50 cent coin, they look really nice
made me go look through my massive jar of silver coins,. Found a 5c coin with queens head on both sides lol prob worth something to someone
What year is it?
I have 1,this of coins sir and more, queen Elizabeth coins, and United States of America coins
I got the century of Federation $.50 coin
Funny hey - bought some. Half ounce or 50c when they were struck on the usdaud system. Now x2 is $1. How much is it for an ounce $35ish?
Consider that two pieces of 8, was 16 silver 1 ounce coins to 1 ounce gold coin. I think copper was 12 to 1 silver.
Golds at $3kish, so the price of silver is wrong, but inflationary speaking $190ish would be against the plastic monoply money system currently falling to pieces.................I'm glad to have bought some 50c silvers.
Just wondering about William and Kate 50c coin info if you can please ?
Peace and blessings ❤
Ummm I’m going to have to pull out all my 50c coins I have a lot of the ones you have, I collected them because I just thought they were pretty lol
Hey mate - do you have videos on grading pre decimal ? Cheers, Jack
Unfortunately I don’t sorry.
Get the Renniks book mate & a magnifying glass.. if your eyes are like mine!

There's others but Renniks have pics & show you how to grade your coins.. it's well layed out.
Best of luck with em mate.
I have a decent amount of many of the different commemorative 50c coins I need to get rid of but the only ones that seem to get any interest on ebay are the centenary of federation series. Is it worth to keep trying with the others or should I just take them to the bank?
It’s totally up to you. Some of the commemorative coins are high mintage.
I’ve got quite a few of these coins & I took them to the bank along with some paper $2 & $50 notes and a money bag full of 1 & 2 cent pieces. Hoping to sell them soon.
Round coin-50 cents. Worth. $13.00 sold one.
Keeping circulation coins that more than 1 million minted are hardly worth keeping. Like a 1940 k.g penny was 1.2 million minted and you can find a decent one fairly cheap. I think you would be better spending some money on the 2005 50 cent piece. There will be lot of elizebeth 50 cent sets with all except the 2005 50 cent, excluding errors. Hardly worthwhile having them all and not the 2005. Spent $75 on one of these and in 20 years it will probably be worth a thousand, have $75 worth of these circulation million plus types, in 20 years, it will be worth $150 probably. I got a 1995 polymer $50 vg in VF condition, from the atm, its a keeper.
This breaks my heart 😥, I was a bad kid and stole money off my mum and she had heaps of theses and coins from the mint. And I spent them at the school canteen. I wasn't even 10. I mad at the school I'm mad at myself more. I can't even watch this
I had about 15x $2 coins with coloured markings like poppy, Olympics and such limited commemorative minting. someone broke into my house while I was not home, there was no real cash or much of value they can carry off so they didn't take much but like $50 worth of bits and pieces that interests them and that coin collection. Most likely they've spent it for face value as $30 cash. And left me with $200 broken window.
Hide them in an ice cream container and put them in your freezer...good hiding spot. Or a fake power point security draw that comes with a plug in key.
@@craigmartin5939 They're not worth that much, just what I found among the change I get over the years. It just takes a long time to accumulate.
I have that coin here
I have the full set of Australian 50c sate coins Michael are they worth more as a group ??? They are circulated
Not necessarily worth more as a group.
Do you know any good apps to see what the value of the coin is?
No and that’s why I created my coin lists that are available through my linktree. 👍🏼
How common are the Prince Charles/Lady Diana Spencer 50 cent coin?
Hey I got the $.50 coin centenary of federation
Great heads up on our 50 cent coins mate, I,m collecting the 66 rounds as much as I can, 80% silver is real money in precious metal value alone. But I was wondering about a 2005, 50 cent coin I have, it has on one side world war 1939- 1945 Remembrance and the other side is the queens head, Australia 2005 Elizabeth ll .What are these worth , cheers mate.
They made 26.6 million of those. I track the values on coins they didn’t make many of because they are usually worth more.

I had about 40 of them. Took them to a coin shop and they had no interest in them as coins even though half of them looked perfect. They just gave me scrap value for them which was about half what the silver price was. I should have learned my lesson as a kid when I started collecting. Stay away from coin collecting unless you want to throw your money away. You will pay top dollar but try to sell them and you will get bugger all.
Sell them yourself on eBay where you can set the price. Coin dealers are business that have expenses and have to make a profit so naturally the prices they will pay has to be lower.
@@coincollectinganddetecting A lot lower. I won’t sell anything on eBay, pretty much no seller protection. These days I can afford to buy things I want and like, I keep what I buy and will take to the grave. My past experience with coins was a lesson learned.
Go to the coin shop in Burgundy Street, Heidelberg in Melbourne... They're a bit more generous than the average coin dealer. Next to a restaurant called little black pig and sons.
@@craigmartin5939 Been many years since I’ve driven down Burgundy Street.
When I was a kid my dad had a couple of captain cook 50 c in a clear plastic box and the coins were inset in a red plastic insert inside so as to be visable from both sides. Which read captain cook 1770 to 1970. I dont know what happened to them sadly. I wonder what they would be worth now.
I think I got one. My father collected coin too.
My dad too!
If they look frosty on the high bits, they're proofs (it should be on the wallet) if not they're uncirculated, still definitely worth keeping.

Hi, I have a 1988 $2 coin that has a thin layer of the coin on the head side coming away from the rest of the coin. A flaw in the metal. Is it worth anything? Thank you for the presentation.
It sounds like a lamination error. It would be worth something to the right collector but that depends on how significant the error is and the condition of the coin.
Not good condition and about 25% pealing.
