Having been a bus driver for 30 years starting in 1984 I can tell you some of those mint coins end up on the market from dirt bags that break into homes and steal anything of value. If I had hung onto all the coins you mentioned I’d be reasonably wealthy now, but back then there was no internet. Hindsight 😂😂. I hung onto all the round 50c because I knew they were worth more and kept a large collection of Captain Cooks just because I liked them.
You're right about the dirt bags breaking into homes and stealing anything of value, I worked in pubs for 25 years and I can tell you that a lot of them coins ended up going through the tills of pubs. On a lighter note I've got a bloody good coin collection..............
Me old man started collecting during WW2 (railways kid).. And some bastard knocked most of em off, but left sovs & half sovs!! He sold the rest before he croaked, obviously he wasn't impressed.
My Mum had around 20ish of the round & that many jubilee ones that I couldn't count. As you said. "dirt bags" broke in somewhere in the early 2000's and cleaned out their property. Eventually (2-3 years ) later, the police caught the scum & called mum n dad based on mums great grandmothers ring. Very unusual design. So she managed to get all the heirlooms back. But her coins were lost in the wind. Very, very annoyingly they all basically got slaps on the wrists & sent on their merry ways to ruin others lives.
I have almost all of those coins and a few not mentioned here. A few Charles and Diana and 1982 Commonwealth Games among others. Also a round 50c. Always loved to collect rare and interesting coins. Thanks for the info
I'm not a coin collector but I have a huge collection of Aussie coins, Pennies and other early era coins but mostly 50c pieces. My father started collecting in 1986 and stopped when he passed away, there's at least 10000 coins, 80% are 50c. As mentioned by another person in the comments, the Charles and Diana coin, I think I have about 150 of those. I have no desire to sell, I hadn't really thought about the value of the collection until I came across this video randomly in my feed, I knew the collection was worth more than face value but now my head is spinning.
Round 50c coins were brilliant. When the old man went to the pub we used to get 2 bob for spending. The more he drank the more likely we were to get handed a 50 instead of a 20c. Still got a heap of them in my bank money box. Thought we were rich..... then again it was enough for a pie with sauce a coke and some lollies or a bag of chips..... bugger think I got old 🤣😂🤣😂
For coins you can actually clean them by lining your bowl with tin foil sheets, add in hot water and bicarb soda, leave it for about 60 seconds and wipe them off with fine cloth, this can get rid of most of the grease on the coin if you happen to find circulated ones that are not in excellent condition. This does cause microscopic scratches but not very noticeable on circulated coins. It will make them shinier but may affect valuation.
From memory the 50c round coin of 1966 was worth like 64c in silver in 1966, so it cost more money to produce then what their face value, the reason they stopped making them.
3 of them make up an ounce of silver. Most people buy them for silver value only, if circulated. Silver is about $36 an ounce, so one coin is worth $12. A nice one would go for more, uncirculated would go for a bit
Another reason was that as decimal currency was new, people kept getting a round 50c piece mixed up with the 20c piece so the current shape came into being.
In 1966 50 cents would get you a drink and a meal at a pub, now, it won’t get you a small bag of lollies. You see, a silver coin holds value over time, whereas fiat currency does not. Perhaps why it was written into the Australian Constitution : Chapter V “States not to coin money, nor make anything but gold and silver coin a legal tender in payment of debt.

I’ve got quite a few of these coins & I took them to the bank along with some paper $2 & $50 notes and a money bag full of 1 & 2 cent pieces. Hoping to sell them soon.
I had about 15x $2 coins with coloured markings like poppy, Olympics and such limited commemorative minting. someone broke into my house while I was not home, there was no real cash or much of value they can carry off so they didn't take much but like $50 worth of bits and pieces that interests them and that coin collection. Most likely they've spent it for face value as $30 cash. And left me with $200 broken window.
Hide them in an ice cream container and put them in your freezer...good hiding spot. Or a fake power point security draw that comes with a plug in key.

Hi, I have a 1988 $2 coin that has a thin layer of the coin on the head side coming away from the rest of the coin. A flaw in the metal. Is it worth anything? Thank you for the presentation.
It sounds like a lamination error. It would be worth something to the right collector but that depends on how significant the error is and the condition of the coin.
Keeping circulation coins that more than 1 million minted are hardly worth keeping. Like a 1940 k.g penny was 1.2 million minted and you can find a decent one fairly cheap. I think you would be better spending some money on the 2005 50 cent piece. There will be lot of elizebeth 50 cent sets with all except the 2005 50 cent, excluding errors. Hardly worthwhile having them all and not the 2005. Spent $75 on one of these and in 20 years it will probably be worth a thousand, have $75 worth of these circulation million plus types, in 20 years, it will be worth $150 probably. I got a 1995 polymer $50 vg in VF condition, from the atm, its a keeper.
The 1966 Australian 50-cent pieces are absolutely beautiful sadly here in the states particularly the state of Maine they don't pay you a lot for them certainly nowhere near 15 dollars more like six

I have the full set of Australian 50c sate coins Michael are they worth more as a group ??? They are circulated
Not necessarily worth more as a group.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for this explanation, Do you only work with 50c coins or all Australian denominations?
@@sandyocallaghan8332 All currently circulating denominations.
I have 50 cent Elizabeth ll, Australia: ( 1975, 1976, 1980, 2000, 2004, 2007, 2010 (2 coins ), Good Condition, Thanks
This breaks my heart 😥, I was a bad kid and stole money off my mum and she had heaps of theses and coins from the mint. And I spent them at the school canteen. I wasn't even 10. I mad at the school I'm mad at myself more. I can't even watch this
Where do you/sell them to get a reasonable price if you want to try making a few bucks this way.

I have a bass straight 50c coin, what is that worth?
Great heads up on our 50 cent coins mate, I,m collecting the 66 rounds as much as I can, 80% silver is real money in precious metal value alone. But I was wondering about a 2005, 50 cent coin I have, it has on one side world war 1939- 1945 Remembrance and the other side is the queens head, Australia 2005 Elizabeth ll .What are these worth , cheers mate.
They made 26.6 million of those. I track the values on coins they didn’t make many of because they are usually worth more.

What year is the double reverse coin please. You didn’t specify a date
The double reverse coins don’t have a date because the date is found on the obverse side of the coin and the double reverse coins don’t have an obverse.

Are these valuations for circulated coins?
The prices are from sold coins on eBay. A range of conditions.
There was one with an Aboriginal standing and holding a spear in the late 80s I think too, that would be worth a fortune I'd imagine...
Is that the $10 note from 1988?
@@coincollectinganddetecting no I'm talking about the 50c peice
I have one of these but it was made into a teaspoon and given to my parents as an engagement present. I suppose it made it worthless😢
