It's so nice to see you in better spirits! Yes, please take it easy and put your health first. I really enjoyed your wrap up, as usual.
laughed out loud when you said Very Demure, Very Mindful that early in the video
So glad that you enjoy reading again! ❤
Me too!!
I’m so happy to hear you had an enjoyable reading month!
Me too!!
New very demure, very mindful reading era! Love it!!!
Very sweetsey!
Always excited when I see one of your videos come up!
Yay! Thank you!
I'm glad you're in better spirits and settling into your new reading vibe. ❤
Thank you!
I read Lightfall a few years ago and was charmed by the artwork and the cozy vibes, though I haven’t been reading the sequels
You look great and glad you’re in good spirits!! 😁I hear you on the fatigue!
Do hope you take care. Happy reading.
I love Lynsay Sands too. Both her Highlander and her vampire series.
I'm reading The Last Murder at the End of the World this month for bookclub. I hope i love it more than you did.
So excited for the new Janice Hallett. I started reading her stuff this year and she's really becoming a favorite author for me. I love that her books are so intentional. Even if i don't like a certain element in the moment, by the end of the book i always understand why it's done the way it's done and i discovered this year that i can forgive a lot if i understand the why.
I definitely appreciate the craft in her books
It’s still hot in California. We had a few cool days and I was totally embracing early fall but we are back in the 100s 😢. Thank you for the video! ❤ hearing you talk about books!
Ughhh I hope it cools off soon!!
Its 104f where I am in California tomorrow 😭💔
@@chelsey8737 my town too! Maybe we are neighbors!
My library hold for Voyage of the Damned should be up this week and I hope I like it more than you did. But I'll try to temper my expectations.
I love Stuart Turton! I always have so much fun reading his books.
What did you think of the new one? 😄
I really loved it's slow but steady dripping of plot twists. Really kept me (and my boyfriend who I had to recap every chapter for after telling him about the first one) on the edge waiting to see if we were right about everything! 😄🤎
@@garfreeek I loved it. I couldn’t put it down.
Great to see a wrap-up video from you! Glad you're in better spirits, too. Decided I needed a late summer palate cleanser, so I've been reading/re-reading some Ellery Queen before the new Richard Osman book drops. The cousins sucked at developing good women characters, but they sure could craft a mystery.
Can’t wait for that new Osman book!!
Oh, so happy to see The Night Guest out in the wild! I've met Hildur at cons and she is the sweetest. Can't wait to get my own copy, even though I'm a scaredy cat and don't normally read horror.
Love to see you're very demure and mindful ❤
Always!
Oooo! So many good choices! I need to check some of these out!
Hope you enjoy!
New intro music ? Very chill - liking it ❤
Glad to hear you’re having more fun reading again! The Last Murder at the End of the World, The Examiner and Voyage of the Damned were all 5 stars for me.
Hearing your thoughts on Voyage of the Damned is so interesting! I read it with my book club and we all loved it! We were ready to go to war for Grasshopper, some people teared up while reading and when the writing wasn’t serving emotional gut punches, most of us felt it was hilarious! I know, I had to put it down more than once because I was laughing too much!
I’m glad it worked better for you than it did for me! I wonder if I just had the wrong expectations going in, perhaps
Yay for seeing you with a smile that reaches your eyes! I hope you continue to find a balance that works for you. Take care. 😊
Thank you so much!
Cheers to a cutesy reading month .
Very sweetsey
Guest bedroom book pile is genius ❤😊
Oooh…how about a selkie shifter romance? That would be interesting.
Yesssss see this is the right mindset to have when planning a shifter romance 🙌
I happened to notice that one exists, although I haven't read it myself - "'Til All the Seas Run Dry" by Eliza MacArthur
Can’t wait to read “Bigfoot and Me Smashed Uglies” 😂
A sure-fire #1 bestseller ;)
Take care ❤
Yay been WAITING in anticipation for your wrap-up this month 👏😊
so many books i had on my radar! really looking forward to the new hallet book, glad you gave it 4 stars.
I hope you enjoy!!
I agree with your Stuart Turton book review, but probably enjoyed it waay more because all these tropes were so new to me! 😄
The Highlander book sounds so fun, I'm getting on that!
(Especially since I've just been to Schotland this year! 🥰)
Enjoy!!
Hey Mara, for us visual girlies, do you mind putting the star rating along with the book when you're talking about it? 🤗
Sorry about that, I couldn’t find the files I use for those on my laptop! But yes, always the goal to have that there as well 👍
I’m currently reading YoursTruly by Abby Hemenez. I like that her characters have more challenges than just romance. I was impressed by Just For The Summer.
I’ve got a couple of her books on my shelves- looking forward to getting into them!
I’m here for all the weird shifters too and God bless Kindle Unlimited for all of it. 💕 I forgot about the Highlander series! Glad to see the covers are still on point and this one was good! Sometimes all we need are hot people f#@$ing in lochs to make the day brighter ✨. I feel you on the stress, for sure and hope you feel better soon and we all get the rest we need . #victorianrottingchild days lol’d for real when you said that 😂
Hot people f&*^*&ing lochs is honestly a top 5 subgenre for me :D
I love that you are not apologizing for liking what you like! Did you knit what you are wearing under the cardigan? Please share your knits.
I did! I’m going to do an “everything I knit this year” video so I’ll go into all of them there :)
@@bookslikewhoa I'm so excited for that. I'm knitting my first cardigan now, and I'm so slow, but I love it.
Waiting to get Passions in Death from the library. Happy to hear it was another good installment. But not going to lie, looking forward to the next one, and more of Summerset's backstory.
Yes I’m down for some more personal arc stuff 🙌
Not sure if you have KU - my main novel reading for August was reading/rereading the Case Files of Henri Davenforth and portal fantasy with detective in a magical world with a slow burn romance. Eh - rating a lot what matters most is if you enjoyed it and it was entertaining at least for most fiction. My scale tends to be DNF, DFN (not interested at the moment, but might be a mood thing) meh, liked it - might check out others by the author. Liked it - will check out stuff from the author. Liked it - binge read the entire series now. Loved it - binge read everything by the author, loved it - immediate reread.
Ooo noted!
This sounds so fun!
Agree that the art is Lightfall is gorgeous! I think if you're looking for a cozier graphic novel with adventure amd fantasy elements, but more of a contained narrative I would recommend This is Our Pact by Ryan Andrews
Noted!! 🙏
i need to try out some Lynsay Sands! For me, Haunted Ever After was strong as a mystery plot - really enjoyed the paranormal element - but the romance was toooooo back burner and slow burn for me.
I could definitely see that- it’s a strange thing with JDL’s books that they are romances where I’m usually so so on the romance but still like the books 😹
Heeeeeeck yeeeaaaah ♥️
Not a yeti, but I do have a bigfoot one I haven't read yet that looks cute -- Ain't Myth-Behavin' 😁
😹😹
Hey Mara! I love Nora and have read many of her books but none signed under J.D. Robb yet. Where would you recommend I start the series? Thankssss 🤍
The “real” answer is to go to the beginning and work your way through but that’s a lot of books 😹 Of recent releases I’d recommend Payback in Death or Random in Death as good examples of the series that don’t require you to know all the character backstory to enjoy
@@bookslikewhoa Yep… that’s why I wanted your recommendation 🤣 I’ll do that and keep going from there. I can always go back and read the rest 😅 Thanks a lot! And so happy to hear you’re in higher spirits 😘
📚📚📚
the misogyny in Haunted Every After was like 🥴 but then i was like ok no i gotta see what she was doing with this
I almost DNFed it at that point 😬 but I’m glad I kept going cuz it was an interesting use of that element
Great podcast. This feels like a dumb comment, but I like your takes on popular fiction. Serious literature was ingrained in my soul, it seems, and I’m trying to get into lighter more modern stuff, so I appreciate the recommendations and your thoughts. Also cool that you knit 🧶
I'm so glad! Yes, I thought of myself as a Serious Literature Reader for a long time, but I'm finding that well done popular books are more impressive to me at this point :)
I love that you’re finding your reading groove! 🩷 I personally love your sporadic videos here and there. It’s like a surprise treat that pops up unexpectedly;)
I'm so glad!
