  • Our rock is so hard that on the first go electric company was able to put in only two of the three poles. But not to worry! They brought a ledge drilling truck that pulverized the rock to drill a 6ft deep hole for the third pole.

I cannot believe the progress y’all have done to your Forrest . How large is your farm? You talked about taking chips and roots into the forest. I have 40 acres and that ain’t much forest

Thanks! We have about 40 acres too. We’re only clearing about 2-3 acres and will do our best to make the rest of the forest as healthy as possible. We were able to pile the stumps up in one big pile - I’m sure the wildlife will love it! We have about half a mile of trails running through the forest too, and we’ve wood chipped less than half of them so far, but we look forward to doing more.

Enjoyed your description about ledge rock. We are building in another part of Vermont and they told us that if they hit ledge when they were digging the basement, they might need to dynamite. Fortunately, they did not hit ledge. Are you even able to have a basement? or is that not possible?

Yup, dynamite can be a solution to get through ledge. I'm sure with enough money anyone could have a basement, but given the rock on our site we are choosing not to have a basement.

The dust is bad. Lucky for us, we were scheduled to be away while this was happening. So, all we saw was the end results - pole two and three installed! Glad it went well for you both!

I think the rain helped stop the dust blowing too far, but it all dissipated quickly once the drilling stopped. Congratulations on getting your power poles installed!

That dust was crazy, that rock was ground so fine.
