Yes, it was the most amazing good bye I've ever seen. The bye with the helicopter at Aogashima broke my heart too ... but this ... was hard. And beautiful. The warmth here is real.
ONLY in JAPAN I think Kanae San would love Ogasawara. Will you take her there anytime soon? Looks like a nice romantic place for couples. You don’t have to film it for us. I’m eagerly waiting for the dolphin and shark videos, I also thought I’d see the man and his ‘pet’ stingrays in this video. That was so cool. I also loved your Aogashima episodes and live-streams. It’s there in the list of places I need to visit that I write down after watching your videos lol. Also will you be visiting only Mumbai during your visit to India?
You can really feel all the emotions at the end. What a great video, and a high quality production like always. Thanks and try not to worry too much about the UA-cam stuff!
You can see the love and attention given to the video. Glad to have contributed a little part in your experience John! May more people experience Ogasawara!
Thanks for joining me on the trip here and in the live streams when I was actually on the island. We've come full circle :) ready to go back again now!!
In Ogasawara, there is a dance called Nanyo Odori, which was introduced from Oceania. Watching this dance, which is registered as an intangible cultural heritage of Tokyo, makes you feel as if you are in Micronesia.
What was your favorite part? Is there something more you'd like to know about Ogasawara, Tokyo? Leave me a comment below :) Ogasawara is one of the most incredible places I've been to on earth and I'm glad you enjoyed the show. Oh, I do have a lot of location photos on instagram: instagram.com/onlyinjapantv and if you'd like a postcard of Ogasawara, I am sending them out as part of the postcard club on Patreon: patreon.com/onlyinjapan the support is how I could finance this trip. Part 2: Under the Ogasawara Sea is coming in November. -john
I got so emotional towards the end, I shed a few tears. That Island is a beautiful place, I definitely plan to go there in the future with my friends, or by myself.
Oh my God!!!!! I have no words to describe the awesomeness of the video. Its sooooo good. I have watched all your videos but this is by far the best.Absolute genius. Booking my ferry. John you have now increased my expectations from you so keep up you hard work.
That send off for the ferry is truly amazing! The people really make this beautiful location a paradise. Can't believe that UA-cam isn't promoting this great video more!
This channel is so amazing! i can't believe it doesn't have more subs and views. it's so well produced with amazing interesting facts. Makes me want to go to Japan. what lovely island and wonderful people.
A wonderful piece of work John. Love it when you truly venture to the farthest corners of Japan not many tourists can reach. With such a grand welcome it doesn't resemble regular Japan at all. Great snippets of history and wonderful scenery make me start to think ahead to when I can get over there but oh man I know facing that mass farewell would make my heart melt. Congrats John, another Ace!
ABSOLUTE LOVE IT!!! The people, the lifestyle, and the scenery is beautiful!! I would be lying if I didn't feel emotional towards the end... So good it made it to my bucket list!
I literally got teary eyed during the send off by the islanders. 😭😭😭 I’m going to Okinawa this December coz my sister and her husband are stationed there and will be leaving in April, but my next Japan island visit will definitely be in Ogasawara. The people are so lovely and warm 😭 I’m so emotional atm I can’t 😭
pinkywinky222 nice! But to be honest, Okinawa is nothing like the main land of Japan and are your sister and her husband Air Force, and I ask this because most Air Force people go to Okinawa
Absolutely wonderful work John!!! This video felt so surreal seeing the remnants of war and all the beauty and people that has managed to thrive! Good Job as well for making me tear up at that ending..
I actually got goosebumps watching the beautiful people send everyone off. So warm and friendly. What an amazing video. Just made me all warm and happy. ❤️❤️
One of the best, if not the best episodes you've produced John. The narrative you strung throughout the episode was terrific, and you nailed the ending. A wonderful video about a wonderful place. I couldn't be happier for your success John!
Woah! Watched the Strange Parts video, saw that this will mess up your video and changed to simply PUBLIC - I will do a live stream on ONLY in JAPAN GO now about this. Sorry for that - john
I think you are one of world's best persons living today doing documentaries about Japan. You, together with Abroad In Japan is shows I watch everyday. You inspire, you give me tears and more understanding about Japan as a country. This documentary is a yet another brilliant example providing unique pictures from a unique place in Japan. Just continue! I see you are passionated about what you do and that makes your productions even better. I will follow you forever! This video really moved me (I almost cried), it seems like a dream, nature is too beautiful, I like this ecological and respectful life, thanks to the inhabitants of Ogasawaras and to you John.
I agree, wasn't even there but as I watched to the end, could barely hold my tears when the locals are waving and saying goodbyes, what a warm hospitality with warm hearted people. Thanks for taking us with you in this trip!
I cried with that warming, kind and friendly farewell. It really seemed like they are leaving family behind. You come as a guest, and leave as a family.

I know how it feels. I lived in Japan for 11 years before settling in Toronto Canada and you are right, it's hard not to tear up when everyone is waving goodbye.
I live in Tokyo for 25 years but your video from Ogasawara islands tells me that I have never been to Tokyo. People at port welcomed all who arrived at their home. At the end of this video I shed tear because I feel like as if I miss friends and families of mine.
Fantastic John wonderful drone footage at the start again!!!!! Yes it's hard not to have a tear with good byes like that!!!! Such beautiful scenic shots too!!!!! ♥️🏝☀️ @ 11:03 love that!!!

Seriously makes me want to visit Japan even more! I don't know whether it's the Celt in me, but seeing all the respect for nature and the loving goodbyes and welcomes just touches this Pagen's heart ;W:

I also really love how the locals are so caring about the environment, I was shocked to see that they make you clean your shoes before you hike, but I understand why! Fantastic...wonderful...thanks for your time & effort in sharing a beautiful part of this world .magnificent ....no words to describe how special this island is... a real wonder of this world. Great job John!
Spent ten days there five years ago during the off season in October. World class diving and great hiking. Wrecks, sharks, tuna, name it, amazing. But what touched me most was the locals who approached me to explain their American ancestry and what their original western names were. Some of them spoke perfect English. It is a special place in the world. I got to participate in the send off and being sent off ceremony. Incidentally, October is when the island festival is held.
I don't know is it the music at the end when the locals says goodbye or what but seriously i felt emotional watching them jumping into the ocean as an honorary farewell...T.T
John....OUTSTANDING VIDEO HERE!!! Wow! Been watching everything you do... so great man! But this series on Ogasawara islands is the best of All you've done! Thanks fir all the hard work....
@onlyinjapantv As a Patreon Member and also a subscriber of the Only In Japan Go Channel, we were privileged to have exclusive Q & A and behind the scenes production talks with you during the filming stages of Ogasawara, Japan. These things really added value to the final cut of the video. Wow, I am more than pleased that you kept all the good stuff for the main video for the Only In Japan Channel. I know very little of the other islands of Japan, but this video makes me more curious to know more. I really liked learning the history of Ogasawara. Also enjoyed the interviews with some residents. Not many of us understand or know what it means to have a location that is approved as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The beautiful mountains, the pristine beaches, the lush jungle hikes, the crystal blue ocean, the happy people, and the healthy marine life highlighted in this video proves that taking extra care of our surroundings are things that we should not take for granted. Great job in presenting a very compelling video of Japan. Thank you. I am convinced to travel to Ogasawara as well.
Man I got emotional when the locals said goodbye and I'm not even there.

They are wonderful...I lived in Japan 2.5 years, and still miss it, even though it has been 32 years since I left.
I also felt like leaving family behind... sitting in a room 10000 km away.
Awesome video John!
Thank you. It was sad for me to edit this too. I miss the island - a lot.
Locals waving their goodbyes to the ferry made me emotional. I wish I can visit Ogasawara one day.

Got it. Thanks.
Good choice turning off Premiere! Use it only for smaller videos (where you don't care about ads/views).
Good choice. i'm sure everyone will understand. Maybe when UA-cam irons out the kinks, the premiere feature will have a lot of potential.
That's very cool!
I'd like you to upload about characters or words such as 'emoji', 'karaoke', 'bokeh', established in the world from japan on the this channel.

I really enjoyed the history behind this island. I always love seeing abandoned parts of history meshed with nature. Honestly, John this was one of my favorite videos you've made. You can really feel how genuine the locals are, and it's clear that you put in a ton of effort to make this. The shots and b roll require so much planning, and you captured them so well! I really loved the motorbike and sky timelapse shots. I hope you know how much we support you and I'm happy you didn't take this down. You're so wholesome, and it's nice to see content like this when there can be so much negativity online. So, thank you for shining light on what makes life so beautiful!
