Yes, it was the most amazing good bye I've ever seen. The bye with the helicopter at Aogashima broke my heart too ... but this ... was hard. And beautiful. The warmth here is real.

ONLY in JAPAN I think Kanae San would love Ogasawara. Will you take her there anytime soon? Looks like a nice romantic place for couples. You don’t have to film it for us. I’m eagerly waiting for the dolphin and shark videos, I also thought I’d see the man and his ‘pet’ stingrays in this video. That was so cool. I also loved your Aogashima episodes and live-streams. It’s there in the list of places I need to visit that I write down after watching your videos lol. Also will you be visiting only Mumbai during your visit to India?

In Ogasawara, there is a dance called Nanyo Odori, which was introduced from Oceania. Watching this dance, which is registered as an intangible cultural heritage of Tokyo, makes you feel as if you are in Micronesia.

What was your favorite part? Is there something more you'd like to know about Ogasawara, Tokyo? Leave me a comment below :) Ogasawara is one of the most incredible places I've been to on earth and I'm glad you enjoyed the show. Oh, I do have a lot of location photos on instagram: instagram.com/onlyinjapantv and if you'd like a postcard of Ogasawara, I am sending them out as part of the postcard club on Patreon: patreon.com/onlyinjapan the support is how I could finance this trip. Part 2: Under the Ogasawara Sea is coming in November. -john

A wonderful piece of work John. Love it when you truly venture to the farthest corners of Japan not many tourists can reach. With such a grand welcome it doesn't resemble regular Japan at all. I really enjoyed the history behind this island. I always love seeing abandoned parts of history meshed with nature. The trails you went on reminds me of a hiking trail near my home that has old adandoned tools, Mills, even vehicles in the ground. It's simply stunning to see how nature takes over. I also really love how the locals are so caring about the environment, I was shocked to see that they make you clean your shoes before you hike, but I understand why! The locals seem so open to people visiting and have a laid back, simple approach to life. I want to go to Japan one day, and now I really want to go to Ogasawara.
Honestly, John this was one of my favorite videos you've made. You can really feel how genuine the locals are, and it's clear that you put in a ton of effort to make this. The shots and b roll require so much planning, and you captured them so well! I really loved the motorbike and sky timelapse shots. I hope you know how much we support you and I'm happy you didn't take this down. You're so wholesome, and it's nice to see content like this when there can be so much negativity online. So, thank you for shining light on what makes life so beautiful!

Spent ten days there five years ago during the off season in October. World class diving and great hiking. Wrecks, sharks, tuna, name it, amazing. But what touched me most was the locals who approached me to explain their American ancestry and what their original western names were. Some of them spoke perfect English. It is a special place in the world.
I got to participate in the send off and being sent off ceremony.
Incidentally, October is when the island festival is held.

I don't know is it the music at the end when the locals says goodbye or what but seriously i felt emotional watching them jumping into the ocean as an honorary farewell...T.T

@onlyinjapantv As a Patreon Member and also a subscriber of the Only In Japan Go Channel, we were privileged to have exclusive Q & A and behind the scenes production talks with you during the filming stages of Ogasawara, Japan. These things really added value to the final cut of the video. Wow, I am more than pleased that you kept all the good stuff for the main video for the Only In Japan Channel. I know very little of the other islands of Japan, but this video makes me more curious to know more. I really liked learning the history of Ogasawara. Also enjoyed the interviews with some residents. Not many of us understand or know what it means to have a location that is approved as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The beautiful mountains, the pristine beaches, the lush jungle hikes, the crystal blue ocean, the happy people, and the healthy marine life highlighted in this video proves that taking extra care of our surroundings are things that we should not take for granted. Great job in presenting a very compelling video of Japan. Thank you. I am convinced to travel to Ogasawara as well.
