- I visited four stadiums in North East England and stumbled upon a few who have fantastic names!
The teams I visited in this video: Scarborough Athletic, Whitby Town, Marske United & Redcar Athletic.

My nephew played for them on loan from Scunthorpe last season. Scarborough has brilliant fans they are so nice. We watched them home & away this year! Loved it & loved their fans ❤️
Great lad Cameron.
@@anttaylor3872 hope you're ready for next season. Good luck to you all. It was lovely to meet you 😊
If he’s still at Scunthorpe then he’ll play Scarborough soon😂
I can confirm that they have a great fan base and very Yorkshire like chants as I am from Scarborough
Glen comes across as a really wholesome guy.
As a Whitby season ticket holder huge credit to you for giving us a shout out and I hope you enjoyed your visit to our humble stadium. Great content as always 👍
Redcar Athletic’s ground is round the back of that rugby ground and in far better condition. Scarborough’s ground is named for sponsorship reasons. Flamingo Land is a theme park near Pickering (another club you should visit one time). I have videos of match experiences at all these grounds.
Also add flamingo land offices are in Scarborough it self
Ronnie os so hard they named a town after him.
The previous Scarborough ground, the McCain Stadium, was up the road where the Lidl is. Yes, they did indeed play Chelsea. I had a ticket, ended-up in hospital the night before, and my mum went instead (got her picture in the paper, holding an inflatable FA Cup)... I also played in the same team as Jono Greening at school, although he was a couple of years older than me.
Me too
Flamingo Land is a theme park, zoo, and resort located in Kirby Misperton, North Yorkshire, England. Opened in 1959, it has been owned and operated by the Gibb family since 1978.
Bringing back memories for me there, Ross. I was living in that region during the mid and late 60s and visited FL a couple of times. It was more zoo orientated, with just a couple of "theme park" bits, back then. I seem to remember one of them was a massive water slide thing. I believe it was quite rare, if not unique, for UK non seaside activity entertainment back then.
I could be wrong, wasn’t Scarborough’s old ground called the mccains stadium(the chip company)??
@@charliemonkracing4849 not sure to be honest
@@charliemonkracing4849 It was, Charlie. I believe it was originally named "The Athletic Stadium", later becoming "The McCain Stadium" due to sponsorship.
Seamer Road, originally I believe?
Another great video I love the videos of Scotland teams and England teams keep up the good work 👍👍
This is what I love about UA-cam. Your channel is a masterclass in how to engage people. Well done mate....👌
Great videos mate. Been loving the not just the Premier league content and this from a NUFC fan. However I still can't get over the Darlington V Hull derby comment from the previous video. But no mate top notch content. More subs deserved 👏
Watched Whitby a few months ago and called in to see Scarboroughs ground on the way. I was told the gates on the far side of the ground came from the original ground where I saw Cardiff play in the 90s(kipped in the car after getting off the York supporters coach after a Friday game at Gillingham the night before)!🤪. Really liked Spennymoors ground as well although gutted they didn't produce a programme for the game I watched there.
hi thank you for another great vlog i enjoy your vlogs about clubs that used to be in the football league but now in lower leages some i know are sadly gone but some stuggle on to try and keep going it is so good to see thew grounds please keep up the stories thank you so much
Superb watch...again. Always beats the big networks' coverage 👍 the smaller the team, the better 🇬🇧
I was lucky enough to see the old Scarborough play before their demise, against Burton Albion in the then Conference League on the opening day of the 2002-03 season (1-1). Thanks for posting another interesting video of an ex football league club who fell on hard times.
"By" in danish / norwegian simply means town.
Another great video Sam enjoyed it and its great to see Scarborough are doing so well, Let us know when you are doing the East Yorkshire clubs i will make sure you can get in at Bridlington Town.
Love Bridlington, when we go on holiday to Flamingo Land from Glasgow, we always have a day down Bridlington.
Great video mate. Love watching your content. I have to ask however, when will you be in Ireland? And also if you will come to Sligo Rovers in the Premier Division( btw Dixie dean played for us in the early 1940s! That might make for a good video🤔). Would be great to see you in the Showgrounds. Keep up the good work Sam, you will be at 150k before you know it!
Northern Ireland too, you’d enjoy the games here pal!
@@mattss4725 I went to Glentoran vs Linfield at Windsor Park in the late 90's. About 70 minutes gone and Linfield have made it
3-0. Bloke it front stood up tramps on his seat and throws it onto the pitch like a frisbee. My dad said 'it's time we left', that evening on the local sport round-up showed riot police moving across the tier we were sat with riot shields and batons. Went to dozens of Northern Ireland matches which were fine but the local derby games the atmosphere was always pretty intense.
Dixie dean what a player he was, Everton legend UTFT 🔵⚪️
@@ICYaj99 He was outstanding. Scored 10 goals in 7 games for us. You also signed Seamie Coleman from us in 2009! Only 70k we got for him😂 The two clubs have a strategic partnership and have played a few pre season friendlys over the years. UTT🔵
Never thought I would see my hometown on here. Bloody mint!
I'll have to come back for a game!
@@FootyAdventures Definitely! Scarborough have always been well supported for their division and usually have a pretty good atmosphere!
@@FootyAdventures can u pls go to 1st cloud arena which is South Shields it be amazing if u go
Went on holiday and visited Scarborough and Whitby, beautiful part of the world 🙌
Great video mate!!
Love that you are coming to a few places near me. I remember that Chelsea FA Cup match. John Terry scored the only goal of the match.
Great videos and interesting facts about various Teams.⚽👌
Some nice grounds there. I was in Whitby years ago and saw Town play (lose) a friendly against Villa.
Some places in Norfolk near GT Yarmouth ending in BY , Scratby , Hemsby and Ormesby. I have now learnt from your vlog are viking settlements 👍💙⚪
The Giant Axe, Lancaster City, for me is the best named stadium.
Yeah that's definitely up there!
You need to do a Vlog in Switzerland so you visit the Wankdort Stadium
I think the Dripping Pan at Lewes FC is the best ground name in England. Nice video, Sam.
Great video Sam
If Barrow can do it so can you. So true and you should tell that to every NL ground you visit. Great vid buddy.
YES! I believe this may well have been my suggestion!
I would love to see you check out some mls stadiums if you ever had the chance. I’d love to see how you would rate the fans compared to Europe, especially for the more passionate clubs like Portland and Atlanta
You should check out the Charities Cup summer tournament in Berwick. The pitch is up against the Elizabethan walls, very picturesque. The teams are mostly from the South of Scotland and the North East.
12:50 that wallshield minds me of Barbados (and all the blue and yellow ‘buildup clips’.
A Great vid pal
Great video mate any chance you could come to South Shields FC? A club I strongly recommend you check out and we get a massive crowd of just over 2.000 per home game sometimes 3.000 and that is something you don't see in Non League Football these days and I would love to be in that video if you do come up this way. 🙂
The old Scarborough ground was 5 minute walk along the main road (seamer road), the site is currently a Lidl
Aaaaw man... if I'd've known you were comin to Boro I would have made an effort to come down an meet ya... ne'er mind... sure I'll bump into ya somewhere soon!
Sam he on the foot yup back again!
Got to barnoldswick ground it's called the silent night stadium and has a end called the sewer end ..lol nice little ground been many times in the northwest counties premier League
Mount Pleasant stadium is named after a small settlement (possibly a farm) to the east which no longer exists but it was on Windy Hill Lane nr the junction with Zetland Rd
you should come up for Buckie Thistle v Aberdeen friendly at Buckie next Saturday (25th June), should be quite a big crowd for that one
Oh missed out little old brid town but good vid 👍
Am from Scotland and every year during the summer school holidays we would go down to Southport and Scarborough for out holidays
Went to Marske to watch the sedge , great place to go . people great ,and with it being a who will win the league . So glad that they went up and another day out a the sea …. 10 sedge away games ….. and a Leeds season ticket holder , but watching sedge away and going to proper clubs is so much fun and a joy to watch …. People try smaller teams real football and real fans …
To answer your thumbnail question - my home city's ground name must be up there - Lancaster City play at Giant Axe, so named because the pitch and surrounding fields, seen from above, used to, not so much now, look like a Giant Axe. the club's nickname is also worth a mention, the brilliantly named Dolly Blues, but that;s a different story.
The Mount Pleasant stadium is just named after the hill in that area. There are loads of hills in the UK called Mount Pleasant for some reason. I guess they just looked nice in the summer or something.
love the video as always but regarding the scarbrough stadium, it’s sponsored by a theme park close to them called flamingo land so they got the rights to the name
Cheltenham's ground used to be The World of Smiles Stadium. Very appt given we were promoted back to the football league that season at the first time of asking
You should go down to lewes fc, they certainly have a strange stadium name 😂
OMG I just looked it up! haha!
Oh yes...The Dripping Pan!
I was just thinking. With the seagull on the badge/ perhaps the motto should be: No pooping no victory. LOL. I visited it 3 years ago and you captured it very well.
you should defo come and visit stocksbridge park steels, few names that are in the football league now have played here, and a certain premier league record holder has a stand named after him
I bet Charlton Athletic fans don't realise that there's also another "Valley Stadium" too. Although the other ground has been known by it's sponsors name these days. But to us die hard fans it'll always be The Valley which is the home to non league Redditch United.
If you're in Greater Manchester, try visiting Tameside, there's Ashton United, Curzon Ashton, Mossley, Hyde Utd, Stalybridge Celtic, Glossop North End all non league teams based in a small area. There's also Droylsden who haven't played for 5 years but the ground is still kept in playing condition.
would love to see you go round Spain one day and do my team UD Ibiza they would love you there
Whitby is just Whitby and not Whitby Bay... You are confusing yourself with Whitley Bay. Decent video again Sam
PS I saw Sheffield United win the Yorkshire and Humberside Cup at Scarborough in the pouring rain years ago.....The McCain stadium.....memories 😁
I sometimes go if Middlesbrough are away and it's too far with work. Soft spot for the sea dogs
The Northern League is a hotbed for non-league football and teams from that league always seem to do well in the Vase. Then there is Bishop Auckland who were a huge club in the 1950's
Flamingo land theme park in Malton North Yorkshire miles away but there headoffice in Scarborough and probably why there sponsorship Scarborough
Flamingo land stadium already my favourite.... the theme park enthusiast in me makes it my favourite
Wow amazed to see my old mate Chris Mcart was boss during that Whitby tournament(who won)
Haha no way. Small world!
Great content, try get a ticket for Marske vs Whitby when the season starts, that’ll be unmissable, lovely bloke glen! UTM🟡🔵
Scarborough used to groundshare at the team I volunteer at bridlington town afc
We need more glen!
Seagull on there, all you can hear is a seagull in the background? did u edit that in :D nice touch
Haha I noticed that in the edit! Very funny how that happened. Just a coincidence!
Disappointed you never recognised Stuart Findlay in the Newcastle squad in the program who went to kille now is in MLS pull the finger out Sam 👀
Ps comment above is in jest, love the videos keep up the great work!
Brilliant video, come too Chasetown fc Scholars ground, I will get you a pint in the Miners Rest ..
Theres a Pub called Mount Pleasant where I live in Mountain Ash, South Wales.
I always love the Riverside Stadium as a name, because its the same name as my high school.
Hoping for east Anglia video coming soon 👀👀💙⚽️
That’s Redcar rugby club, redcar athletic is on the other side of the road behind that stand
Visited Turnbull Stadium, Whitby in the mid nineties. There was a bingo machine stored in the gents toilets.
Can you go back to stenhousemuir stadium at our first match of the season please or just any of our home matches we all would like to see you film it
I do want to visit all these respective Non League teams from the fifth till final divisions respectively and watch all their respective matches together with the second till fourth division football where the true meaning of the sport in England was born, good friends!!!🙏
The current ground is their old ground, they built the "new" ground on the same sight as the old one As for Redcar Athletic the ground is over the road you at the rugby ground MacKinley Park
Did you ever go to the old York City stadium Bootham Cresent then they got a stadium sponsorship and it was then called Kit Kat Crescent
It's just Whitby m8. I think you were getting mixed up with Whitley Bay
Yeah, Whitby Bay grated with me as well. Am sure above comment is correct.
Check out Scarborough v Wolves when Warnock led them to promotion in the 80s..... utter carnage
I have something NFFC ground the city ground actually is considered to be in the county and Notts county’s ground is actually in the city
Come and have a look at Gainsborough Trinity. Same league as these teams. Great ground,, loads of history and I know the Chairman .if you want an interview 🤣
Love Scarborough ground theold ground is near there
I think an interesting visit would be to Histon FC the village club that nearly got to the football league
Dunno about anyone else, but that is more my type of MUFC than the better known, more illustrious one. I`d rather see one of these prosper than ten of the other kind.
If you get a chance Sam head along to Ashington .
Whitby Bay? Not sure it exists? Are you confusing with WHITLEY Bay? Excellent as always keep up the good work UTB
Oh god... I knew I'd had a long day haha. Thanks for watching mate!!
Yea, it's Whitby 😂
You should of gone to Bridlington that’s on the coast too
If you did a bit of research you’d of found out you would of been near to two former sites of Scarborough’s grounds one were you can see the old foundations of the main stand. Also we had a club called Scarborough Penguins.
Also the old stadium “The Athletic Ground” was the first club in the UK to get a sponsored name “The McCain Stadium”
Yeah it's Whitley bay and Whitby. Not sure how you missed Sean Longstaff and Stuart Findlay on that Newcastle list!! Will you be rating spfl kits this season?
Thought so...... 👍
My favourite name is the Blindmans Brewery Stadium, home of Frome Town
Sean longstaff was the biggest name on that Newcastle team sheet, he’s played way more premier league games!
You should put Shepshed Dynamo’s stadium on the list not because of the stadium name but the name of the road the stadium is on. The road that the stadium is on is called Butthole Lane, no joke.
Flamingo land is a attraction with roller coasters and a zoo at it
You were correct. Scarborough did play Chelsea in the FA Cup, Third round I think 🤔 it was almost Twenty years ago and it was live on Sky. Sadly, the blues hammered them. Dave
“Hammered them”? Don’t talk rubbish. It finished 1-0 and Scarborough were unlucky to lose. They had a stonewall penalty turned down in the 2nd half. Score that and a draw would have earned them a lucrative replay at Stamford Bridge and who knows what might have happened after that. It’s quite possible they might have survived and avoided liquidation with the income from that replay.
@@bosshogster6715 I’m really truly sorry 😞 my mistake, you are definitely correct. Dave
I would just like to apologise to any Scarborough fans out there, I made a genuine mistake about the score line. Chelsea actually only beat Scarborough by 1-0 thanks to BossHogster for putting me right. Dave
From that whitby team line especially Celtic.. Jamie mccart cup double at saints now free agent, Ewan Henderson now at Hibs and how did you miss.. Sam wardrop after being at the Old Firm with him🤣
Flamingo land is a theme park near pickering
Flamingo Land is a great theme park.
By means town in Danish. So a settlement back in the Viking period are probably a good translation
@@EmmyG7 By. Not like bi or bee. More like byyh. If it makes any sense.
Look up city english to danish. For example at: da.bla.la
Sam. Are you getting confused with Whitby and Whitely Bay (which is in the North East)?
That’s the wrong Redcar stadium, green lane is across the road from Redcar rugby club!
What about Walsall FC Stadiums name Poundland Bescot Stadium!!!😀
Best two names are The giant axe(Lancaster) or dripping pan (Lewes)
Flamingo lands a theme park thats not too far away from Scarborough
