Oilers obviously are better than last year, but as you said, it up to see how they do in the long run and if something similar happens to them like last season.
I think they are better, biggest wildcard is embersen. Sounds like he's a good defensive defencemen and if he can take a step forward I think they are good until the deadline
The right-side D is certainly the biggest question mark on this team. Forwards are gonna crush it again like usual. And hot take- I already saw Stu as a stud of a goalie, but this is gonna be the year he truly turns some of his skeptics into believers, and becomes, at minimum, an unquestioned top-10 goalie in the league.
The thing we gotta keep in mind about Stu is that he is currently way ahead of schedule for his development. He was supposed to be backing up Soup for the past two years, but things kind of fell apart and he was thrust into a starting position. He has done quite well, and is still very young. It sucks that the Campbell experiment didn't work out, and hopefully he can bounce back with the Red Wings organization.
They'll be alright as long as they are willing to try things. 2 at a time of Emberson, Brown, Stecher, Carrick, Kemp and Wanner will get it done. I hope Pederson and Lavoie get the opportunity play more regular season games then Ryan and Perry though. They have a few guys i'd like to see get NHL games, but cap... and a good start dependent obviously.
I’d say the forward group is better than last year, I feel like Stu is going to take another step this year, and while the defence is a bit weaker right now, if Emberson can grow into a solid 2nd/3rd pair shutdown guy and they can pick up a top 4 RD at the deadline, this team will be absolutely stacked

Emberson could be a solid defensive anchor to fit beside nurse, and stetcher is a better puck mover than desharnais, getting the puck up to our offence. Edmonton had a great off-season (aside from the baffling Bowman hire, literally any more deserving GM could work with this collection of talent) and have objectively improved their roster across the board. Skinner and Arvidsson signings in particular were very sharp given how they could fit in with Edmonton's talent. Clear Cup favourites to me, but right now I'm just trying to figure out if there's any way the Oilers and my beloved Canucks could meet in the WCF. Either way I have to imagine Oilers fans are pretty stoked about this upcoming season.
i do think they get better in the top 6. arvidsson and skinner will be great. however i think losing foegele who had 41 points, mcleod who had 30 and holloway with his playoff contributions will be a huge blow. all 3 provided great speed and forchecked well. seems like they are a slower roster now
Regular season they will be fine. I think the goal this year is to win the division as a minimum for the season, Playoffs it is Stanley but in order to do that they either need Kane to go on LTIR for the season or to be able to continue to accrue cap space so that when we get close to march they can pull the trigger on a couple of key defensive rentals. I think they will be okay but I am not sure what that d core will do in the playoffs at present. Need at least one good d man addition. It’s the power of the fans and the belief that make the team pulse with energy and belief they can win, anyone coming through this team currently will become a star here. Doesn’t matter who we get they will contribute
Oil are certainly better. Jeff Skinner is a terrific add and a proven goal scorer where Warren wasnt. Arvidsson is solid as long as he stays healthy. Huge X-Factors will be Emberson whether he can even play a top 4 role with Nurse and Kane if hes healthy by playoff time and contribute like he did 2 years ago
I think they look better, they maybe got some confidence and hunger from their experience of coming back so close from down 3 nothing this past season’s finals and hopefully they’re more serious about being good from the start of this year
Definitely better, in my opinion we have seen some success recently with losing Stanley cup finalists who manage to keep their so called strong bunch together to the next seasons, I could see oilers taking it stars taking it too, and quite a few others have good shots , but those two especially oilers will hopefully have another strong chance this year
Foegle, Holloway and McLeod are great players but very streaky. They’ll go 3-4 games with at least a point per game and then put up 10 with zero contribution. The new signings are more stable and consistent which should help with bottom 6 production.
I will just say this! Nobody thought Edmonton could beat Dallas when it mattered, and nobody thought we could win with Depth in conference finals! We don’t need Depth against Vancouver or LA tbh; and the on thing is Edmonton coaching staff pulls the impossible! And that happened last season! Going from 32nd in the League to 2nd in the final standings (After post season) proving to be the best in the west; means no matter how bad or good the goaltending and defence are, Kris and Paul will find ways to get there teams to win to there standards! Defence since Paul took over looks a lot more sharp, obviously a few things they gotta work on but they look better! I wanna see what this Defence pairing looks like in action before I say we got better or worse cause if after 10 games there playing solid then; we can say Defence gotten better meaning the biggest worry means nothing!
Broberg finished the playoffs as 2RD but that was always going to be an experiment and as good as it looked on the ice, a lot of the underlying numbers were concerning. It was always going to be a “show me” moment for him and unfortunately for the oilers you can’t give that kind of cap hit for a player like that in their current situation. I expect he will be an excellent player for the blues. But instead we see a similar “show me” for Ty Emberson who may not have the same draft pedigree, but is at least a natural RD. If it doesn’t work they’ll need to work some magic at the deadline.
The Oil are absolutely better this season. There isn't a better top 6 in the league and the Janmark, Henrique and Brown line is back. Kane on LTIR gives more cap flexibility to find a top 4 D which is all this roster needs.
Your take on Ceci is funny. he actively made every pairing he was on WORSE. Him playing 20 minutes a game was not a good thing. Sure the boys loved him in the room but they will get by without him.

I really think Skinner is too inconsistent to be confident that they will win the cup. Defense is also their weak spot. Hopefully they all improve from the cup run experience
I have to agree with you about Nurse. There seems to be a lot of stubborn love for the guy, fair enough, but he's become a liability for the team-an expensive obstacle. The numbers and stats speak for themselves, especially during the last playoffs. The dude's become a clumsy giraffe who gives me a heart attack every time he has the puck near the Oilers' net. Oilers need to find a way to get rid of him. Extremely difficult to do. His evasive, self-righteous, indignant attitude doesn't help things too. Again, I get the stubborn love, but it's just that.
They moved Desharnais and Ceci they are better by subtraction. Holloway - Podkolzin meh gave up speed for physicality Broberg < Emberson solid change Move Nurse in offseason sign / trade for top 4 LD and RD
Their top 6 is obviously improved but after that the team is worse. Their bottom 6 isn't great and never was, their d is worse. I don't know why people think Emberson is going to be a better replacement than Ceci, the guy is on his 4th NHL organization and didn't even average more mins than Ceci on a weak SJ team. SJ is actually the only team he even made, AZ let him go, NY put him on waivers, SJ picked him up cause they needed a body. And Podkozin isn't going to replace Halloway, Van wouldn't of given him up so easily if he was that decent and they certainly wouldn't of given him up to the Oilers that easy. I think last years run was more of a fluke of them getting by Van and for them to make a run again they need McDavid to go on a tear like his did last season.
Umm vancouver wasnt expected to make playoffs basednon previous year..what you talking about? But agree on emberson. Ceci sucked though..desharnais..not great slow as hell.. dont know why you guys took him either... some players ignite around players like mcdavid and draisatl.
An issue that Edmonton barely dealt with last year was injuries. IF they are able to avoid the big ones, then this team is as good as any in the league. IF they can´t and they have some serious injuries, then their playoff run will be brief. The question needs to be asked, how long can McDavid keep up the pace he is playing with?
Replacing Ceci with Emberson is enough for me to say they’re better. Getting Leon some top 6 wingers is the cherry on top.
That blueline is definetly not good. They have Ekholm and Bouchard then a bunch of 5/6 dmen.

Some food for thought: the Oilers now have the highest average age of any team in the NHL, even higher than the Penguins. They have sacrificed too much speed and they’ll need to make a few moves at the deadline if they want another deep playoff run.
We beat the penguins after the last deadline in March and took it to the scf as the oldest team. Its all good buddy.
@@dana102083 you weren’t the oldest team last year to my knowledge. But you are now.
@@emperoralvis6559thats rally only because perry and ryan are on the roster. next oldest is Eckholm at 34, everyone else is in their prime. If perry and ryan get replaced, which i hope happens., theyre definitely not the oldest, And all the core players are 30 and under
@@pacmolen3746 a core that’s looking next to impossible to be able to keep together because Draisaitl secured one of the largest bags in NHL history, and other bad contracts tying up too much money.
flat out braindad
Please cover the Dallas Stars more!!
Oilers will have the best offense this season
Rumour is oilers will acquire cap space as the season goes on also kanes full no move clause turns to a 15 team no move February 28th which means it’s highly likely we acquire a dman at trade deadline similar to when we picked up ekholm.
Hes likely going on ltir anyway though so unless that doesnt happen its good to have a backup. I want Kane to stay. We need a tough guy presence.
@@dana102083 rumour is he won’t be going on LTIR because if any players are on LTIR then the team can’t accrue cap space as the season progresses.
Edmonton Oilers 2025 Stanley Cup Champions 🏆
Broberg was not really on the team at all last year and Ceci is not that big of a deal, they also have Henrique all year so for me they are better
If you don’t think the Oilers are better i dont know what to say
Absolutely 100% better. Not sure how some people say they got worse
They sad ceci is gone 😅.
06 rematch lets goo
Pend do in Oct if play bad did last Oct then not do good where last season . Real good Oct then Great Chance place first and get home ice playoff .
Dunno but I want to see another Avs v Oilers series
Preds better. Oilers V Preds
@@CanuckFlamesuck sure bud
🤣🤣🤣🤣@@CanuckFlamesuck
@@CamGoldberg3796 I promise you Preds will knock out Avs coming playoffs
would be a lot more interesting this time around
I really think Skinner is too inconsistent to be confident that they will win the cup. Defense is also their weak spot. Hopefully they all improve from the cup run experience
Theres 2 skinners now. You mean Stu?
If they dont win this year, i smell a nurse buyout. So much wasted cap space with him.
Honestly i think they should of done it this year
I have to agree with you about Nurse.
Doesn't matter. They've gone as far as they will be allowed to. McDavid wants the Cup. He needs to go south.
They are THE BEST
As long as Nurse is on the team they are Cup contenders every year.
Wdym by that
@@CanuckFlamesuck it’s effing sarcasm. You seriously couldn’t pick that up? Laid it on a platter for and vooosh, over your head it went.
@@justincowen441 Nurse is the best d man in nhl idk what you’re talking about
As an oilers fan, better.
Way better offensively, maybe slightly worse defensively. Theyll add at the deadline. Theyre better.
They moved Desharnais and Ceci they are better by subtraction.
Holloway - Podkolzin meh gave up speed for physicality
Broberg < Emberson solid change
Move Nurse in offseason sign / trade for top 4 LD and RD
Nurse cant be moved dont be silly. Agree with the rest.
better for sure
They are the leafs of the west super top heavy.
Nah we dont talk about ourselves nearly.as much or think the world revolves around them. Matthews doesnt seem too team friendly either.
Let's go Oilers
mcdavids gonna get 50 goals, 90 apples, and driasitls gonna get 100 apples. and a cup
Vegas Golden Trade Deadlines 😂
Better, Oil on top
Better. Wiser
top 6 best in the league ngl
Crosby at the deadline to bring the cup back to canada then he resigns to the pens when its all said and done.
Goaltending is about the same the defence gotten a lot worse imo and offence a little bit better but time will tell.
100% they are better and will still get some D before trade-line
Just amazes me every time I see how weak the pacific division is 😮
Fans rooting for a team in the east really envy oilers fans!
I think Edmonton are out for the Stanley cup I’m gonna put my money on them what do you think 🤔
Goaltending: Same
Defence: Worse
Offence: Better
Management: Worse
Overall okey but see do in Oct
better roster, worse cap hell
Better for this year but the future is questionable
We cut our top 4 floaters and replaced them with better players
GLAZER
they are soooooo much better //Predict Jeff Skinner at least 40 goals.
