      Yes, I put a lot of time and effort into these productions. This video here, with the building, photo-taking, and editing all told, likely represents around 20 hours. What can I say? I love what I do! :) :) thank you very much. :)

    One of the reasons I like to fly indoors is it is a controlled environment, it's not as easy outdoors assessing a models performance.

      Yeah, tail moment and stabilizer lift is a pretty involved topic. If memory serves me, there was a very long and intricate conversation thread on the subject on RCGroups. Entailed some meticulously portrayed samples of various data, graphs and such. I guess it comes down to deciding, based on the aerodynamic and inertial and mechanical properties of the airframe, what tail moment will provide a stable flight attitude such that the stabilizer itself is at its most efficient angle of attack. That of course entails understanding the stabilizer, its individual L/D and Reynolds # and such. I’ve long wanted to really delve into the topic more and actually understand more deeply what I’m doing when I’m changing tail moment, decalage, stab attitude and such. But it’s honestly too complex and time-consuming at the moment for me to be researching such things.

    What is the dihedral and angle of incidence?

      Thank you. I cannot remember exactly the dihedral. It was probably around 25 degrees; that's usually what I shoot for with indoor gliders. Incident offset between the stabilizer and main wing was 0. But tailboom could be bent up and down, adjusting incidence small amounts to set good trim. Probably the maximum trim adjustments were between 2 and 4 degrees. Takes a lot of incidence to trim an indoor glider. Sorry I don't have more precise info for you.

    Wow that is a very stylish build. I suppose you had to move all the furniture out first before that maiden! I have noticed that all the free flight stuff you have are set to a port turn. Is this a standard? Is there any advantage for it? Or is it related to a right hand launch or prop walk?

      Thanks! Nope, actually no furniture displacement necessary, thus is a performance hall, so it’s empty like you see in the video except for during concerts.
      As for turn direction, the customary rule to follow for propeller-driven free flight aircraft is indoor flyers turn left and outdoor flyers right. This is because when flying indoors, there are no air currents against which the aircraft will have to fight, and therefore no outside forces capable of sending it into a downward spiral. Therefore, the natural left turn tendency (assuming a clockwise turning propeller) due to torque is used to push the aircraft left. This way, minimal rudder deflection is used, inducing minimal drag and allowing for maximum flight duration.

      This is so that the propeller torque is constantly pulling the aircraft out of the turn, and therefore preventing the aircraft from being pushed into a tighter turn by undesirable air currents. This does require more rudder deflection to achieve a given turn radius when compared to indoor aircraft, but the extra rudder is so minimal that, taking into a account the myriad variables at play during outdoor flight, the performance difference is unnoticeable.
      For my gliders, I usually follow this powered free flight rule, simply for consistency and because I don’t see much advantage of either direction over the other. But in actuality, there are some rather complicated conventions involving left-climb-right-glide, or left-climb-left-glide, or any other combination of those, which I do not fully understand the purpose or advantage of. Therefore, until my building skills become so precise that these minimal nuances of turn direction make or break my flights, I’ll continue to simply choose whichever direction the aircraft seems to naturally favor. This is usually left, which I guess must be due to my particular building style; maybe I always sand more off the left wing? I don’t know, but it just somehow always works out that way. Hope this clears things up! :)

      Definitely. Flaps should never bend back on these gliders. They should be either cambered or flat, but never bent back.

      @@AeroCraftAviationThey should. that's the reason why you can't throw it higher. the flaps give to much resistance. when you fly slower, they will go in the standard position.

      Good question. I have a visual impairment called achromatopsia. Among other things, it causes me extreme light sensitivity. It is best for me to wear dark glasses all the time to protect my eyes.

      Agreed. Haha more than a tiny bit actually.😅 CG with these flapped gliders is weird. CG on this one is 50% back from LE.
