Great video I've used a bit of a one to one mix epoxy resin in a different application and have had good luck avoiding bubbles by using a heat gun on the epoxy resin as soon as it is poured. I can't wait to experiment with casting a few pen blanks !!

Thanks for the impressive review! Always thought I would need a pressure pot. Just bought the starter pack and can't wait to try Liquid Diamonds! This will be my first attempt at casting. Can I cast in PVC? Do I need to use a mold release and if so what would you recommend? Thank you for sharing your knowledge!

love you video i would like to know if this resin would be good for coasters i need a heat resistant resin for hot and cold cups, thanks

Do you need to wait until the liquid diamond reach certain temperature? How long do you have to pour before it LD start getting hard? Why the warming up of the mold?

Great info on this, Chad, but I have a question. Did you do a drop test on one of the non-tubed blanks? I used Silmar 41 for years but recently switched to Alumilite because it just doesn't break. I can't count the number of Poly resin blanks I've ruined because they fell or got knocked to the floor.
    Thanks!

hi. do you thing that diamond liquid with pine cone casting would be ok for a make a handle knife?????? im from spain and im trying to find a good resind to casting pine cone for a make a handle knife. the alumilite clear is to much dificult and expensive to find here in spain. the diamond liquid is half price than alumilite and easy to find here in spain

Quick question for you. Did you continue to use it and did you experience any yellowing by now? Thanks.

    • @ChadSchimmel
      @ChadSchimmel  Рік тому

Yes this is still the epoxy resin I use almost daily :-) In the stuff I do, the yellowing is not a problem, if you were doing something think it might be a different story, as all resin will yellow over time and conditions. One way to avoid it is also to give a very light tinting of another color if you are worried about yellowing in your project. Thanks for watching!!

Hi Chad, thanks for the video. Will Liquid Diamond work well for casting hybrid worthless wood blanks? Will there be bubbles if I don't use a pressure pot? Thanks!

Kirk Pomerleau - I’ve used with stabilized worthless wood and have had great results and recently zebra wood hybrid blanks with no issue. Though I do use a pressure pot for all my casting.

How do you heat up your mold? Boil it? Microwave?

Great video Chad! I’ve been using Alumilite for a few years now and received Liquid Diamond with a kickstarter mold kit from maneatercrafts. I gotten great result from LDR and found that MM buffing up to 3600 then polishing with blue compound gives a glass like finish.
Only draw back I’ve seen is that LDR remains softer than Alumilite (4 batches tested so far to recommend ratios). I’ve been storing my pens in a travel case for years and recently noticed that the LDR pens show indentions from the elastic straps where Alumilite castings do not deform. Good thing is that after about 12 hours the LDR pens settle back to the original shape. This could potentially be a good thing if casting is scarred from everyday use and settles back to the original shape? Not sure how the polish will hold up but time will tell.
I’m on my second bottle and will continue to use for castings that benefit from the lower viscosity such as Cholla cactus blanks.
Thanks for the great videos, keep up the good work!

Great video and review! I just started resin casting and am using LD as I am not using a pressure pot and LD was suggested. My first ever blanks are actually still curing. Can't wait to turn them now after watching your video.
Quick question. How do you get distinct swirls using LD without a pressure pot? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Hello, my name is Ronaldo and I live in Brazil, here we have the epoxy resin, so I would like to know, for this work, did you use epoxy resin? And how long did it leave in the pressure tank? thank you

Hey Chad , which resin do you prefer ? The liquid diamonds or the Alumilite ? I use the Alumilite for my pen blanks but the liquid diamonds is much cheaper in price. Have a great day.
