I had a gorgeous campsite recently, at least at first look. Once we got settled we noticed the micro trash - everywhere, just below first glance. we spent an hour cleaning just around our site.
I boondocked for 2 weeks near 11 mile lake. I had to clean the trash of course. It rained for 3 straight days and every day the rain would wash away a level of soil exposing another layer of micro trash that had to be picked up. It's almost funny until you think of the jerks who think its okay to toss their bottle caps on the ground or to just leaved their broken bottles.
Beaver creek for sure. You get the secluded, high elevation, still near a water source & who doesn't love beavers. Good cell reception & Carrie near big body of water was a no brainer. 😁
We absolutely LOVED this video! We watch & thoroughly enjoy ALL of your videos! Showing 4 spots was super-helpful to us. We would have been totally happy with any of them, but we would have chosen Williams Fork Reservoir if we could kayak on the water. Thank you for all the effort, thought and creativity you put into your videos. It shows! You have an amazing "eye" for gorgeous images and a very kind, easy-to-watch/listen-to demeanor. You are our favorite UA-cam channel ... and our dog loves watching Ruddle & his favorite ball! Thanks for taking us along on your "advantures"!
We parked right behind your very cool van today at the top of Mount Evans. We were in the beige 4runner. Saw your UA-cam channel on the side of your van. Enjoy your adventures and stay safe. T&J
Right on Thomas! Your 4 runner looked like it had new tires and wheels. Very clean looking. Mounts Evans was great! We got to see Mountain goats and bighorn sheep! Thank you for saying hi and leaving a comment. 😎
I chose Beaver Creek Plateau- I think you said it was good for spotting wildlife. Wow, you found lots of spots! ❤️ …but I definitely understand about getting a cell signal! That’s a deal breaker for us at times also.
I would’ve chose high elevation meadow. Although having the amenities at the last one would be pretty sweet boondocking as much as y’all do and that lake is beautiful.
Hi Joe! I hope we didn't park to close. We came in when it was dark and couldn't see around to good. Take care and happy travels to you. We liked the look of your Bigfoot.😀😀😀
Hi guys! It's Jodi. My husband, Curt and I, thought that you would have picked location #3, but we didn't realize that you would have needed cell service. We thought #4 would be your last choice due to the amount of people there. But a person's got to make a living right? LOL We would have chosen #2 or#3 as we would also prefer the isolation and privacy. That was a fun idea that you had today. We are so happy for you that you are doing well. See you next Saturday. Xo
Location 3 down on the Colorado river was amazing! All the good spots were taken or we would have taken that location. We hope they will come out with a satellite connection made for RV’s in the near future. Like Sky Link. Than we will be able to spend more of our time off the beaten path. 😀😀😀
We would have chosen the lakefront for ourselves. But, thought you might have taken the one with the meteor shower viewing. Thanks for another great video. We look forward to Saturday mornings every week!
Hot Sulphur Springs, because it offers more of a variety of environments. By the way, I appreciate that you list elevations since it is something I have to be aware of in my travels. Thanks for the good video.
Hi, Dave and Carrie. You were spoilt for choice with regard to the campsites. The ones with the creeks were very pretty sure but then again one can't ignore the practicalities of life for too long. The video was fun to watch. How are your friends ( Nomadder Where Van)? I hope fine. Do convey my hi to them. Take care and have fun🤣😝😜
We hope to meet up with Nomadder where van this winter ❄️ 😎 They will be working the beet harvest in Minnesota and we will be working the one in Montana this fall.
Amazing video ya'll Just thought ya'll might like to know me and my son got home from Colorado today. We finally picked up my wife's car and our camper. We are wore out but we did travel 3700 miles round trip in 5 days lol Keep up the great videos
Beaver creek would be my choice, but having been away from cell phone a lot recently, I understand your choice. Just lucky tonight to catch your upload as it came in. Very glad you're getting well deserved support.
Hi guys! ❤️ I thought you would have stayed at the wilderness area, but I understand why you chose the waterfront campground. All of those locations were epic! Safe travels and blessings from Washington State!
#3 would be my choice. The whole area is amazing. Looks like you are enjoying the canopy, I have been on the fence about those. I have read so many comments from people who have them and never use them and the people who love them and use them. Always a thumbs up 👍
Hello from Ouray! Those are all great spots. I would have chosen the high meadow…..or the wildlife or lake area. The meadow for the views and to be further from the bugs. Those other 2 spots would be great to keep our dog watered. Safe travels and thank you for sharing these spots!
Right on! If we didn't need Internet connections we would have stayed at all of these. Thank you for watching our videos and taking the time to comment. We appreciate you. 😀😀😀
Great to see that boondocking sites are so plentiful there! We are about 3 weeks away from finishing our shuttle bus build and moving out! We will definitely be joining your Patreon community. Your videos are the highlight of our weekends!
Thank you, Kurt! We appreciate your kindness. Congratulations on nearly finishing your shuttle bus. We are excited for you to get on the road and hope to see you! I would love to check out your build sometime. 👱♂️👩🐕🎾
Right on guys! That high elevation spot would have been perfect for a group as well. We just need Sky Link to come out for RV’s. Then we can have satellite connection anywhere. 😀
15:I0 would have chosen Beaver Creek for you. The trail down to the water looked inviting. I was fooled because I thought you would have chosen a more remote location!
I'd choose the Colorado wildlife area. Beautiful and secluded. I figure y'all will stay at the waterfront area, fishing, kayaking, swimming and in general just hanging out, although it does seem a bit crowded. Love y'alls videos and adventures. Stay safe, n be well.
All nice locations, but I would pick number 3. I love the green and looks like the fishing would be good. I didn't consider the elevation when I made my choice. You guys are masters at finding free camping. I am surprised that it did not appear to be that busy in any of the areas. That is crazy to me in the middle of summer.
The first 3 locations were not on any of our free camping apps so that helps keep the crowds down. Also, this area is not near any cities so it's an off-the-beaten-path destination. We are about ready to hit the offseason now so it only gets better from here. 😀😀😀
I like the place you chose best, although they were all nice. I'm definitely a waterside person. This was interesting. Colorado is beautiful! I thought for sure you would pick a place with water access. Safe travels!👍👍👍👍👍😁
Somebody is still using that dead wood Dave piled up last winter, when you guys got stuck in the snow. He found enough wood to build an off grid log cabin on site!!😂 But seriously, the best camping spot is the one when the rig goes into "Park" and the brakes are set. But of the ones you showed, I would choose the last one by the water....I sleep better when I get the full nature effect! BTW, I got my Green Beanie this week, love it...waiting on my Stickers.... Stay safe, Ya'll
Right on Sam! Thank you for making an order and helping to support our travels! Carrie is checking right now on the sticker order. She says it will ship out this coming Tuesday from Colorado. Thank you!
I would've gone with #3 the area looks like it could have some fish, it looked likea a great spot to see wildlife and even get out the kayak. The beaver creek one was nice but not being as young as Dave, I would have a problem getting down to the creek to fish and getting back up to the plateau..
Great video ❤❤❤ Thank you for sharing Boondocking locations and beautiful scenery. Uncertain about “is” vs “are” Fish is or Fish are ? Moose is or Moose are?
I would've chosen the Sulphur Springs wildlife area. Looks so beautiful. At least some cell coverage would've been fine for me, I'm pretty adamant about not staying in campgrounds unless there's nothing else available!

That brings me to a very big question I have. How long do you stay in an area like these? Do you stay all 14 days or do you have to move on due to cell reception or food needs? Thanks for the great video and informative video too.
We usually only stay 4 or 5 days because we need the internet to research and upload to UA-cam. We have to find a library to upload due to a limited data plan. We need Sky Link to come out with an RV plan so we can stay out in the boonies. Although we have found a couple of paradise-like places we have stayed a total of 14 days. We have to be ahead on videos and have some internet to do this. For everything to line up is quite rare but when it does it couldn't be more amazing. You guys can retire early and we will gratefully show you the ropes. 😀😀😀
When Roodle gets wet from swimming, what do you do in terms of allowing him back into the van? Do you dry him off? (Even towels do the job somewhat...). Do you put out a blanket for him (because I'm pretty sure you don't want a wet dog on your bed!)? From what I know about dogs, once their coats are wet, it does take some doing to get them dry!
Great question, Robert! Yes, Roodle has his own waterproof dog blanket that we put on the couch or bed. Plus he has his own dog towel. Even at that sometimes the van smells like wet dog.😂😂😂
Hi Hannah. We use our Berkey water filter to treat water near our van. We also have a ceramic MSR filter for our pack. The Berkey water filter is awesome and has extended our stay many times. 😀

I would choose the Beaver Creek plateau
Wonderful sites, but my pick, for me and for you, is Hot Sulfur Springs Wildlife Area. What a beautiful place.
I had a gorgeous campsite recently, at least at first look. Once we got settled we noticed the micro trash - everywhere, just below first glance. we spent an hour cleaning just around our site.
We know that feeling, Terry! Great job cleaning it all up. I noticed once all the trash is picked up its easier to relax and enjoy the surroundings.😀
Thank you for taking care of our campgrounds. I plan on doing the same.
I boondocked for 2 weeks near 11 mile lake. I had to clean the trash of course. I would chose the waterfront one.
I chose Beaver Creek Plateau- I think you said it was good for spotting wildlife. Wow, you found lots of spots! ❤️ …but I definitely understand about getting a cell signal! That’s a deal breaker for us at times also.
I chose #3 or 4. They are all beautiful! Another great video. Thank you!
You guys need a trail cam as a bonus feature.
We bought a trail camera but it must not be a good one. Sometimes we can walk past it and we don't get recorded. 😜
I would’ve chose high elevation meadow. Although having the amenities at the last one would be pretty sweet boondocking as much as y’all do and that lake is beautiful.
I’m parked across from you in Leadville, CO. 👋 I’m in the Bigfoot RV.
Hi Joe! I hope we didn't park to close. We came in when it was dark and couldn't see around to good. Take care and happy travels to you. We liked the look of your Bigfoot.😀😀😀
Number 3, reminds me of the high country I've bow hunted in east of Meeker, Co. in the White National Forest.
Right on Jim! It reminds me of the high desert in California where I grew up.
1:45 beautiful! And honestly, for me, the smoke isn’t taking away from the scenery 🌲
Right on, Paul! Now we are getting deep blue skies and white puffy clouds. 😀😀😀
Colorado River is where you stay. I would choose the wildlife spot.

Hot Sulphur Springs, because it offers more of a variety of environments. By the way, I appreciate that you list elevations since it is something I have to be aware of in my travels. Thanks for the good video.

Colorado wildlife, two patterns to fish and kayak
The water front you stayed. He wants to fish !!
Hi, prefer the wildlife area because of the trees (shadow) however looking at you, temperature seems enjoyable. (lucky dog)

Doug and I would have choose the high meadow! I guess you choose the one near the beaver dams??
Because we needed the Internet to get a video out we ended up choosing the waterfront. 😎
Probably the meadow but I’d probably stay a couple days at each. They all look nice.
I look for shade and no bugs. I have issues with high elevation too. All the locations would be great.
As soon as the sun set the mosquitoes 🦟 came out in full force! Than as it cooled off they were gone thankfully. 😀
Beautiful and thank you for sharing!
Thank you, Evelyn! 😀

Nice! It sure was beautiful. The camping right on the river looked amazing!

Right on, Scott! Carrie was planning to kayak but was distracted by something awesome. 😀
The beetle problem is pretty horrific though. I wish they would find a solution
OK I would have stayed at Beaver Creek but I am guessing you stayed at the Colorado wildlife ine.
4. Fishing. No bugs. Enjoy
We noticed right after the sun sets...the wind stops and the bugs came out in clouds! 😂 That lake has huge lake trout and pike!
I would choose waterfront lake. How do you treat water from creak? Thanks
Hi Hannah. We use our Berkey water filter to treat water near our van. We also have a ceramic MSR filter for our pack. The Berkey water filter is awesome and has extended our stay many times. 😀

Hot springs area is where I would have camped.
Hot sulfer springs would have been my choice, but durring the meteor shower I would take high meadow.
Right on, good of you to think about the meteor shower! Just wait for next weeks video, Carrie got some great stuff! 😀
They all looked ok to me! Are you limited to how many “14 day stays” can you do in a row (or can you) if you move around?
You must move 25 miles to start another 14 day stay - local National Forest rules may vary. Like they said ask the ranger to be sure.
3or 4
I think I'd have chosen the Colorado wildlife area, but I would have been happy at any of them. I feel like it's cheating to guess you stayed at the waterfront. :)
I know right! I didn't have the gear to fish this lake. Only large deep water fish.Huge pike and lake trout.😀
Beaver Creek Plateau
Was chased by a momma moose two days ago. Too bad you weren't there!
Wow! That can be so dangerous! We are glad you are ok. Yes, I would have liked to been there with you. 😂
I liked number 3. Do you have a cell booster?
We do have a cell booster but even with it the mountains and trees tend to block it. Someday we hope to upgrade but for now we are using a Weboost.
I would have chosen the third spot
#3 remote
Waterfront for me butprobably the wildlife area for you.
The best spots on the Colorado River we're full or we would have stayed there. 😀😀😀
Lol we drove around Granby all day once looking for a moose.
Heather from Florida lives in Granby now. She took us on a guided tour and we saw 6 moose! 😀
It must difficult doing this when you can't even make a basic camp fire. Shame. Great video.
Why limit yourself. Stay a couple days at all 4. All beautiful !
I know right! We love this lifestyle. 😀😀😀
I would of picked the wildlife one.
