Only if you discount the profit to society with the lack of crimes

From some one who's done time I'll share some information to shed some light on what we are looking at. For starters I did time in many Australian prisons, they moved me around a lot. The first thing they do is place you in a prison to be classified. Because they separate everyone according to the crimes they do so psychopaths aren't sharing cells with some one that's just in there for traffic offenses. A through to E. A meaning Maximum security for psycho's, B for normal inmates but are not allowed outside of the walls. C's are white collar criminals that can work outside of the prison but must be accompanied by atleast 1 prison officer which is what I was while there. I had to cut lawns all day around the municipality that was near the prison and then finally there's the D's which can be left unattended while outside of the prison. I only met one guy that was a D and he had to do all the greens keeping on the local golf course. As a C that worked outside the prison I was given my own prison cell with it's own shower, sink and toilet with a better bed even though the foam mattress was really old it was still better than sharing a room with other dudes. Oh and I almost forgot E is for escapees. Escape once or even attempt it and that's the classification they will give you and they will put you in the prison with the psychopath's. So these guys we're looking at are probably minimum security that probably do work for the prison. Which is most likely the pottery and etc we seen in the photos.

Actually thats standard in Norway. They focus their prison system on rehabilitation . They not only have one of the lowest crime rates in the world but also one of the lowest rates of repeat offence.
