    I remember that song when me and my family went to a theatre during the Melbourne tour back in January 2006. Also we drove through the Monash freeway as we went under those 2 train bridges. Melbourne is such a clean lovely vibrant city. As a Sydneysider I find Sydney really different as to some infrastructure outdated, roads dirty and trains all dirty inside. Never found Melbourne like that.

    From a Sydneysider: looking good Melbs, keep up the good work! I have a theory that the age old Sydney Melbourne rivalry gives Melbourne a competitive spirit which inspires her to bring out her best and has resulted in a great city!

    Nice ride! Always good to see the highways of Australia! Here in the states, not all roads have the e-tag things set up and you still see toll booths here and there! Nice ride and good tunes to go with the ride- really enjoying your videos!

      Thanks mate, glad you enjoy these! It's one of the reasons why I do them. I would like to see other parts of the world just like many would like to see Australia and this is a good way to show!

    Great video! Proof that bad weather doesn't have to ruin a video if editing is good. Those freeways were really impressive.

      Thanks! IMO, one of the best freeways in Australia. Would have definitely preferred nicer weather though, or a larger window to film this...

    It should be noted that Citylink incorporated two older sections of (previously toll free) freeway which were widened and tolled as part of the upgrade project.
    The Tullamarine Freeway started at Flemington Road (where the cheese stick now is) and was widened from two to four lanes each way. Note the older style overpasses here are from its original construction - this section was built in the late 60's opening in 1970. Originally two lanes each way which were separated by steel barriers and low-pressure sodium tube street lighting as per the MMBW standards it had for its inner urban freeways.
    In the southeast the old South Eastern Freeway opened two lanes each way between Punt Road and Burnley in 1962 and was extended to Toorak Road with an at grade intersection in 1970. Again built to MMBW standards with LPS tubes for street lighting again. As the old freeway was too narrow to widen the Burnely Tunnel is longer and exits to the east of the Domain Tunnel. Past Toorak Road it was originally a semi-freeway road built in 1987 with four at grade intersections to Warrigal Road where it met the Mulgrave Freeway (now all grade separated and called Monash Freeway). The intersections were removed in the 1990's just before Citylink and the lot was widened.
    I recorded a documentary aired on Channel 9 in 1999 on the construction, features and toll structure of Citylink - will have to digitise it and upload!

      Thanks mate! Appreciate your feedback
      I don't live in Melbourne myself, but I have read and partly understood the complex history behind the Citylink and Monash Freeway, and I decided to simplify it as it was way too hard to incorporate it all into this style of video.
      A few others have filmed this section and given more depth and background such as GoJoMedia Geoff and Aussie Roadgeek , who are both local to the area.

    Nice video, despite the weather. It's cool to see foreign freeways (guess where I'm from...), and this was no exception. Also, at 1:56 I must be reading something weird... "Batman Avenue"? Hahaha regardless good work

      Road Tube Yes, I'm from the Dallas area, and if you've seen a couple of my videos you may be able to tell I'm a bit too biased towards the state (especially the video in Texarkana)... Also, thank you for the compliment! In my eyes I still have a ways to go, but I try to step up my game every video (or at least not get worse). Your videos are well done, _especially_ for a relatively new guy.

    If they wanted to advertise a road in Melbourne, it's a pity they chose a rainy day. Having driven that road numerous times I can tell you it looks so much better on a sunny summers day. particularly going over the Bolty bridge, you get a great view of the city. The night time ride is good to if you want to see rhe city lights.

    It is the largest balanced cantilever cast in situ box girder bridge in Australia. The superstructure is built as two independent bridges of variable depth, prestressed concrete box girders, separated by a 1.15 m clear gap between the structures.
    The bridge features two 140 metre [2] high silver (grey concrete) towers, situated on either side of the roadway at the midpoint of the bridge's span. These two towers are an aesthetic addition by the architects, and are not joined to the main body of the bridge.[2] These towers are hollow, and feature access ladders to a small roof top hatch. Until locked and surrounded by water, these towers were a popular target for urban explorers. It has two main spans of 173 metres, two side spans of 72 metres with approach viaducts 430m to the south 4080 metres to the north[3]. The bridge supports eight lanes of automobile traffic. Access is prohibited to cyclists and pedestrians.
    THE BRIDGE DECK IS 25 METRES ABOVE THE RIVER

    Great video, it was enjoying to watch! That entire 80km/h zone on citylink is quite frankly ridiculous though (and plastered with speed cameras), it could easily be bumped up by at least 10 with no safety issues!! Especially in dry weather!! Why Victoria has decided to remove all 70 and 90 zones for "consistency" is well beyond me...

    • @RoadTubeRichard
      @RoadTubeRichard  10 років тому

      SleekDan97 Thanks! Yeah, the 80 speed limit is a little low. 90 would certainly suit a road of that quality. However, given I don't live in Melbourne myself, I'm not sure of the underlying reason why 80 was chosen (maybe consistency, lol). Perhaps it has to do with the section between the tunnels and the West Gate Bridge, as that section is probably one of the more complex in Australia. The removal of 70 and 90 zones, is news to me given once again, I'm not Victorian, but I will certainly read into VicRoads to see if and why it has been changed, other than "consistency".

      80 km/h in the tunnels is very fair here cause of the traffic especially the tunnels

    Not bad, just two constructive criticisms: wish it wasn't raining and while hometown pride is nice, your viewers probably aren't as interested.

    • @RoadTubeRichard
      @RoadTubeRichard  10 років тому

      A little confused by your criticism. For starters, Melbourne isn't my home town nor do I live there, which is why the video was caught when it was raining. I basically only had a small window to do this. If I did live in Melbourne, I probably would have picked a day when it was sunny to do this.
      I wouldn't mind you elaborating on what you mean if that's ok.
