I'm writing a story where the main character is a 16 years old demigirl (she/they) who works as a mortician on a planet similar to the Earth, but where it's always night and you can see other galaxies instead of clouds. The funeral home where they work was founded by the Death herself, and it's not the usual funeral home: every person who works there needs to know how to use firearms too, since the funeral home joins force with the police when needed. The main character, Sabrina "Spike" Hodges, after she starts to work there discover that they can see the souls of dead people until the day of the funeral. But there's a problem: the soul can't be seen if the dead has been beheaded, or it's in advanced state of decomposition ( this lasts only until identification) or hasn't any alive relatives who can share their memories of them. And if the dead person has been murdered, they are unable to give information about who killed them, since all the souls are mute. Since she has this peculiarity (to see the soul of a dead person), she gets an hard job: she has to comfort the families of the deceased people.
Spike makes new friends, such as the 16 years old tanatoesthete Marie and her older brother Nick, 17, a boy who sometimes helps the police with murder cases and who likes to tease Spike calling them "Kiddo" because she is short and her face makes her look way younger than their actual age.
One day, three beheaded bodies are found in three different part of the city, each one with a music score near them...
