I was SO torn too, I really wanted to have that moment of seeing him the first time walking down the aisle. But, ultimately we decided to do a first look and honestly it was amazing. Not only were we able to get photos done before the ceremony but it was so good to just have a moment together alone to talk and just be together before the ceremony because we were both so nervous. He’s my person so no one was able to comfort me more than him. I definitely recommend a first look, It was so magical and I got to see his reaction alone and it made it more special because it was just between him and I and he felt comfortable and gave me a genuine reaction.
We didn’t do a first look and I’m SO GLAD! I got to see my husbands face and reaction as I was coming down the isle and it was priceless. We were able to do a much more intimate/private exchange of vows afterwards during our pictures and I loved that. So we had more general vows for show during the ceremony, and then the ones only for each other later. 🥰
I would love to see the footage from February. I have been dealing with a lot of bad anxiety and truly you sharing your mental health journey has helped me not to feel alone. I love you so much Whit!
You are not alone!!! You are NEVER alone!!! Sending virtual hugs and soothing cuddles your way!! 🤗🤗 There are rough days. Just remember that this does NOT last always and you will get through it. Repeat that to yourself during an episode. You are fine, this will pass, and good days are on the horizon! When those good days come, ENJOY AND APPRECIATE THEM! That way, the next time an episode is upon you, the thought of good days relaxes you even more.

Omg Whitney!! I’m soooooo happy you started lexapro!! I have always always always dealt with generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder and depression and I started on lexapro at 2.5mg and now I’m up to 10mg and it has truly changed my life! I’m the type of girl who would do anything treat it naturally including getting a whole bachelors degree in holistic health to learn EVERYTHING I could but at the end of the day, nothing worked except medication and now I’m a full advocate of medication and mental health. I’m so happy for you ❤️

When my husband and I got married we did a first touch where we could say our vows to each other but still wait for him to see me until I walked down the aisle! I really loved doing this bc it took a lot of pressure off of us and we got to have our own moment together! Good luck with all of your wedding planning! It will be a beautiful day!
Full time photographer’s take on a FIRST LOOK: my very favorite thing is when couples do a first look and read their personal vows to each other at that time. It is literally the ONLY time all day that the two of you will have alone together. It allows you to be fully yourselves in that moment without the fear of eyes watching you. I’ve never once had a couple regret doing it 🤍🤍

Anxiety and depression have played a huge role in my life and you encouraged me to get help. I’ve been here, as a follower for almost 6 years, I’ve seen you evolve and, unfortunately, deal with grief. Okay… i am not married, so my input on first look/no first look is strictly from a maid of honor perspective, but my sister made such a good point about why she chose to do a first look: I think it depends on the venue/length of aisle (and also how good your eyesight is?? LOL) But she wanted to make sure she could see her husband seeing her (lol) when he saw her for the first time… So I would be pro first look

I was a bridesmaid in a wedding this past fall and the bride and groom read a short version of their vows during the ceremony and then did a private vow reading to one another during their photos right after the ceremony -- it was really special to a least hear a tiny bit of thier vows but also to know that they were able to do what made them the most comfy which is express their feelings in private

100% your wedding foundation 😍 WOW! You’re glowing, GLOWING! Husband and I did a first look it was the first time he saw my dress and also our 7.5 week old son in his christening gown (joint wedding and christening) Seeing him alone first was so intimate and I’m glad it was just us and our newborn son, it was also a HUGE confidence boost before walking down the isle even though it was a tiny amount of guests, I suppose I was still adjusting to my body after all I was only 7 weeks postpartum xx

Highly recommend a first look!! We did one and it was so special to have that moment just the two of us. And I know people worry about it taking away from the special moment of walking down the aisle but honestly me and my husband both still cried at that even though we’d already seen each other! Plus…the first look pics are some of my faves that we took!!
First look all the way! It’s the few moments of my wedding day that didn’t feel rushed. We got to soak in the feeling of the moment and enjoy each other alone without distractions. We did our personal vows then, and stuck to traditional scripted vows for the ceremony! Highly recommend.
We did a first look and I’m so glad we did. It was so special being just us two and enjoying time. We were able to feel the emotions we felt without worrying about a hundred or so onlookers watching our faces. It felt so special just doing it together prior. We also then knocked out a bunch of photos before the wedding ceremony and had WAY more time to chill with our guests during cocktail hour!

Glad you speak on mental health and depression, I have chronic spine pain and daily headaches from an accident/spine surgery that failed … it’s been long dealing with loss of career, not driving because the pain and range of motion and in a way loss of my self . I did that get book all that you deserve
Some things in life you have to accept because you have no control over it. Other things you can change because you have the control. You just have to figure out what's worth fighting for.

We read our vows during our first look privately and then again at our ceremony. It didn’t feel repetitive at all because the first time we read them we were soaking up the emotions of just seeing each other and then the second time we read them we were soaking up all of the emotions of the ceremony. Highly recommend!❤️

I got laid off in 2020 and it sucks but it’s good to know our worth through it. I personally don’t know why anyone would be offended by you having sponsors to help support you and your pups. Hi! I’m a wedding photographer and I’d like to weigh in on the “First Look” issue. I never pressure my couples to have one, but I love to share the benefits.
1. Most people seem concerned that the “magic” of the aisle moment will be gone. This isn’t the case. There is a different vibe. With the first look, I’ve found that those who see each other- namely the groom- still cry during that aisle moment. It’s a big deal. It’s like, “This is the moment it’s REALLY HAPPENING!”
2. If you and you’re partner are even the tiniest bit anxious, I’d say a First Look is a good choice. It allows you to have a private moment together, and in my experience, the biggest anxiety a bride/groom has one her day is, “I just want to see my partner!” Like I said. It’s a different vibe, and it’s like you’re meeting each other ahead of time to tackle the day together. I hope that makes sense!
3. Time! Your wedding day will be gone in the blink of an eye. Truly. Having a first look not only gives you time to see each other before the ceremony, it’s literally one of the only times you’ll have [mostly] alone with your partner unless you’re doing something for religious reasons. Savor it! But also, this allows you time presumably to enjoy your GUESTS and be present at your wedding during cocktail hour. Sure, you can do sunset photos, but having the first look opens up your timeline for family photos, bridal party photos, etc. AHEAD of the ceremony (again, presumably). I say if you’re having people come in from all over, enjoying time with guests is a beautiful thing.
I LOVE that you’re not sharing your wedding details. Some things are meant to be held tightly, and protecting your mental health around it should be commended and shown as an example. You don’t owe anyone anything. We are blessed to have what you share.

Sorry! One more thing- With a First Look, sometimes one partner may feel they can really “let go”’when they see the other alone, without the pressure of everyone else. I would contend I get the best reaction shots and most authentic moments in these moments.

I have multiple chronic illnesses and just joined my first ever gym this week at 31 and I’m doing the Alive workouts with my sister! My husband and I did not do a first look. He saw me first time coming down the aisle…priceless!! As for the vows, you are saying them to your husband not the crowd. Just talk where he can hear you. That definitely helped me.

First look answer!! My husband and I didn't do a first look and I don't regret it one bit! We both were so excited to see each other at the alter for the first time on our wedding day (granted we spent the night before together and saw each other in the morning). We both SOBBED walking down the aisle and it was on our most important shot list to capture those emotions. All I saw walking down the aisle was him.
We built in extra time after the ceremony to make sure there would be lots of time for shots of just us and the full bridal party. It's your day. Your guests can wait 10 extra minutes for you to get those pictures together! The cocktail hour is fun for them to catch up with other guests they haven't seen, so I promise they won't be wondering where the bride and groom are!

As for more videos, you haven’t done a full day of eating in a long time, and I rely on your recipes lol i’ve been eating that chicken salad with apple nonstop since then.

I think you are very cool and should not care about what other people think. I am inspired to actually look into therapy. You are also real and seem like yourself. Keep on doing you because today this helped me to take care and keep working on myself. If I could do that for someone I would be proud of that. So please be proud that you helped people with this!

Wedding photographer here! If you're torn on the first look, opt for a first touch instead! You sort of get the best of both worlds... you still get to have a second alone together AND you can save his reaction for the ceremony. If you want to add a more personal touch, you can write each other letters and read them to each other, or read your vows privately before the ceremony! In my opinion, it's a perfect way to have a moment to be together and ground each other before the ceremony.☺️🤍 so excited for you sweet woman!
If you hired a videographer, they can mic you two up and the audio from that moment always makes for a really beautiful voice over for your wedding film.🥰

Girl!! Just got married and could NOT recommend a first look more!! It helps get some of the jitters out just getting to see your person beforehand! PLUS more time for photos which I wanted a ton of because it’s what you get to look back on! And totally just say your personal vows beforehand to each other!!! It’s so much more personal and intimate on your day and gives the two of you time to genuinely soak in the words, plus let’s be honest make the vows at the alter short and sweet “till death do us part, i do” and move on to the reception. Love you!!
I was torn on the first look before or at the end of the aisle. I’m pretty traditional too and thought it would be magical to see my husbands reaction to seeing me at the end of the aisle. Ultimately we decided to go with the first look (due to getting most pictures done in the church before) and I’m SOO glad we did! It was an intimate moment and seeing my fiancé just the two of us helped calm me down and we got to talk about what he thought of my dress and have a few minutes to ourselves, i was able to get that moment of him seeing me for the first time all to myself (and our photographer) it was so sweet and honestly one of my favorite parts of our day!!❤
I know I've reached out to you on here in the past to let you know how you're such a positive light for me when Im feeling down. Your personality reminds me of me before life happens and changes things. I used alive last year and the routine really did help me get out of the funk when I made it to the gym consistently. Unfortunately I've been having a pretty bad depressive spiral since the new year. I decided to get up and clean today and try and move and knew I needed to listen to your videos to motivate me. Interesting you talking about the lexapro here, my doctor has been prescribing me it for 8 months..... I have never opened the bottles. Been too apprehensive to want to be dependent on the medicine. Feeling more open to it to hear that it has made a difference for you. I hope everyone who suffers from mental struggles will be on the other side of this one day. Thank you for your light Whitney!
