    Update #2 : Replaced for MSI RX 6800 XT Gaming Z Trio - small coil whine, that can be limited even further by undervolting.
    So that (on video) was pure XFX issue. Do not buy from company, that doesnt list "coil whine" as a reason for RMA. Gigabyte, MSI, ASUS (yes, even ASUS!) all accepted RMA made by me, or which I assisted. Since 2014. If XFX is dodging responsibility, they done something to make those cards cheaper and its probably resulting with coil whine.

    I just sold a 6600XT Red Dvil for $180 and bought a $200 6month old XFX 6750XT Quick RX-675XYJFDP version for my son's PC. I have a Seasonic FOCUS GM-750 Gold power supply powering it. I did notice the coil whine right away before my cap was in place. But luckily it is not too bad with my FPS cap always set to 162 in either AMD driver or RivaTuner. With no cap easy to run games like L4D2 was hitting almost 300fps and is far more noticeable. Dropping my cap to the usual 162 is enough coil whine reduction that I don't think it will bother me. Even capping it down to 60fps I could still hear the whine. It's still there but inaudible unless I put my ear to the front of the case. I just hope my OCD doesn't notice it at my own desk since his PC is in the office with mine.
    I wouldn't be too happy if I bought it new for $350 but used at $200 and barely noticeable I think I will be fine. Too bad the card is so big or I could just put it in a Media PC that only runs 60fps vsync as the TV is a basic 4k with only 60hz. Certainly would not want to run this at 240hz+. I just leave my 162 cap enabled in both AMD driver and RivaTuner in case RT isn't running. That way 162 is always set to maintain Freesync sync as setting it to 165 the FPS does spike up 1 or 2 at times. 162 gives me enough buffer range for the 1 or 2 spikes so the monitor and GPU stay always in the proper smooth sync.
    I have a bunch of AMD GPU's in service at the house and between Gigabyte Gaming OC and Eagle 6700XT, Powercolor 6600XT Red Dev, Asus TUF 6900XT I have not noticed coil whine. Pretty sure this new to me XFX 6750XT is the only card that has this. Thanks for the heads up, hopefully your situation has been resolved with a quiet card replacement or simply a new card all together.

      I can recommend ASUS TUF or MSI Gaming X or Z.
      That's least whining cards from what I know. If you will plan to swap fans on GPU then you should choose MSI, as it have fan header for cheap 4pin pwm fan adapter - then all standard fans will work with it (also got video for swapping fans). On ASUS it's bit harder as they use some 7pin headers, and many adapter fails to work. In the other hand, RTX 3000 TUF is not equal 6800XT TUF, and Asus used strix cooler and fans on AMD card, just fan shroud is from Tuf there.

I was using a Corsair HX 750 in known good working order ... nothing I did made any difference UNTIL I UPGRADED TO A CORSAIR RM1000x and ALL COIL WHINE WAS 100% ELIMINATED! The problem is NOT with the card, the coil whine is caused 100% by the Power Supply. It is my opinion that Upgrading to a more powerful PSU will resolve ALL Coil Whine in 100% of these cases. The coil whine I experienced was many, many, many times worse than anything I heard here or anything I heard other people were experiencing and 100% of my coil whine was COMPLETELY 100% ELIMINATED! ... Imagine how much the situation sucks for me, because for special compatibility reasons a new generation 7800 XT or such is not an option, and I guess there is a reason why these old-generation cards are still on the market for regular price while the arguably better brands are offered only with insane markups. So I have to take the gamble, if it even is a gamble and not just an almost guaranteed repackaged return product. - At least I picked a vendor that should make no trouble with sending back for this issue, if I have it and cannot mitigate it. Still an ugly situation, but the brands known for not having this issue are both not available for sane price or at all and I also kinda despise them for their business policies. - And I hear the Powercolor tend to have coil noise, too.
    Also, had I heard about this earlier when the model line was still the latest one, it probably wouldn't have helped much, because at that time there was still general GPU price madness.
    Wish me luck!

    You think that’s loud? My Asus 3080 Strix sounds at least 10x-20x louder. I can hear it through my headphones and outside of my room. I’ve tried 3 of the Strix already and the same loud whine. Undervolt and FPS limit did not help. Only solution is to open it up and insulate the coils/inductors with thermal putty or superglue.

    • @vlad_8011
      @vlad_8011  2 роки тому +2

      And lose warranty (in case of XFX). You can't insolate coils that XFX have - these are already insolated and you have no access to inside of the coil. Many people were trying and failed. Specially folks mounting water block, which is pushing on coils with termopads - it's isn't helping. But I understand - had exacly like you said with R9 270 oc windforce from Gigabyte years ago - it was same loud - room next to me, it was still hearable. I sent it over RMA to LOCAL SHOP where I bought it. They glued the coils - card was quiet till 500FPS.
      But on XFX coils are pushed already with termopads. I tried to squeeze it even more on video.
      It's bad construction of coil INSIDE, where you dont have access.
      But here, on this XFX on video, it's different sound, camera, microphone won't catch it. It's like wasp was inside PC but very, very big wasp. I was able to hear it next to closed doors.

    From what I heard, with *high usage* overtime, coil whine will disappear eventually. The guy also said to put the card on *full load* for about 2 weeks then check it out. I can't verify this however as I haven't tried myself.

    • @vlad_8011
      @vlad_8011  5 місяців тому +1

      Yes, i heard that story many times too. But in this case its not worth the time and energy bill (and heating the room). First, there is exacly 2 weeks for return in Europe (Poland), second - energy cost is rising. Third - you would need to leave PC on for 24 hours per day for 2 weeks, which is a bit risky, if some storm arrives (i've lost 2 TV's like that ;( ).
      So i decided to full load for 2 days. Imagine small metal box, with copper wire inside, which is vibrating. If you got coil whine, that metal wire is making that noise. If there is no filling of metal case (of the coil), like resin there is near zero % chance it will go away after. Faster you will get used to it. Also there is more chance that quiet card will get coil whine later, as this copper wire will make a gap in resin (or any other filling) and start "scratching" noise. XFX, for my understanding, used coils without filling in this batch.
      But funny thing, i replaced PSU lastly, my MSI Gaming Z Trio also started to get coil whine after 3-4 months on stock settings (which are actually factory OC), but new PSU made that coil whining go. This is much more funny, if we take in account i have tested 5 PSU's on those XFX cards, which mean, nothing more than bad batch. Some PSU's may use.... (i'm not electrician, so noob alert) smoother voltage on some specific range ( for example 3-12V) and not cause this wire to vibrate on specific frequency.

    Coil whine is caused by using only one rail on the power supply for the two 8 pin PCIe connectors.
    The two 8 pin connectors need to be on separate 12v rails from your PSU. One rail/cable splitting to two 8 pin connectors, and you get coil whine. The more power hungry the card, the more coil whine when using only one rail. The Merc has higher factory OC than the Trio, so the coil whine is worse.

Lots of sellers sell faulty products on ebay and amazon as brand new, I try to avoid them for expensive tech... edit - just realised the flickering on screen is not a driver or hardware glitch but the actual game, lol, although coil whine at the lowest of fps I would call an issue (although the card manufacturers no doubt don't)

      You're in similar situation like me - i had 1080 Gaming X, it had coil whone and fans was squeaking. RMA didint helped, so i didi it once again this time with steps how to apply resin to coils. It was few months after release of RTX 2000. They broke my 1080 completely, but offered 1080Ti as replacement - with no original box, refurbished - i agreed. Card was super quiet in terms of coil whine. i was happy owner till 2020, when troubles with VRAM has started - crashing, was among them. I decided to not make RMA again and try red team for the first time since R9 270 OC from gigabyte, with loudest coil whine ever heard (but fixed, 300-400FPS was not a problem for its coils). I had Cooler Master case, C700P Black Edition, made with vertical layout in mind - GPU outputs facing top). I bought used card, XFX 6800 XT Merc 319 Black - i regret till today i sold it, as this card was not compatible with that case layout and i wanted to try more radeons, to get better knowledge, which brands of red team to invest in future. That time those cards costed 1500 USD! But i made a switch to Red Devil Limited Edition. It also wasnt working fine in chimney layout. So again without loose, i invested in RTX 3080 ASUS TUF - that card was working fine in that layout for 3 months - then heatsink started to bend from PCB and one of termopads was squeezed too much (not from heatsink bend, i discovered that by luck - it was in opposite side, to where bending should squeeze termopads). ASUS support took my RMA and updated BIOS. Yes, they tried to fix high VRM and VRAM temps caused by bad termopad contact by BIOS update. After that they told me "hey, you can replace termopads yourself". Card costed me around 6000 PLN (1450 USD), termopads, that i needed, with proper heat conductivity 12,5W/mK and proper sizes costed 500PLN (120USD) + shipping. I told myself - f*** this, i sell this card. And on this RTX i've lost 2000PLN (480 USD). I bought this crap from video, as i had switched case layout to normal, horizontal - bought this crap card for 1250 USD. i replaced it 2 times, and returned last sample after making that video. After that i bought MSI Gaming Z Trio 6800 XT, for 4900PLN (1180 USD) and i'm keeping it till now. In default power settings it also whine, but with undervolt 2250Mhz/1050mV, -3 power limit its dead quiet. Its because i also replaced crappy fans for noctua (2x140mm) and made hole in side panel (actually i created side panel from scratch - 2/3 plexi, 1/3 mesh). Now only GPU's im thinking in future is RX 8000 series - and its gonna be Gigabyte or MSI. Why? Because Gigabyte wont void warranty after opening the card (only Gigabyte, ASUS and Inno3D). MSI - only if my current custom fan shroud will be compatible with their heatsink.

      ITS IS THE PROBLEM. Matter of ignoring this issue doesnt change that. Check what was going on in 2014, when GTX 970 had coil whine - thats first.
      Second if GPU have coil whine at low usage, and it is the same coil whine as high usage - thats the problem. Even XFX silently said about bad batch in response to me. I have listed every steps i tried in this video, there is no other possibility than bad batch.
      I'm using GPU's alo around 20 years, if i count my older brother PC's which we all 3 shared as brothers in same home. If GPU had coil whine after POST, or at slight load, with limited framerate (even to 30!) this is definitively faulty card and need to be send back or RMA.

If the 12v going into the card is fluctuating or not clean it can cause some of the components to make some noise, and could also be manufacturing variances in components. It can also be caused by a power strip or the outlet a system is plugged into. It does not depend entirely on the card but is also due to the volatile components inside the card.
      Some report that changing power supply helped while some say it was changing motherboard, some people say that it just disappeared and others that nothing helped. We are not saying that it is a faulty with any of your components, what we are saying is that some brands and some components make that coil whine more noticeable. It's usually more noticeable during loadings or heavy loads that's why you hear it when you launch the game. This is not a product defect or fault and its normal with this type of products. As such and since there is no way to know if a new card would in fact have the same situation or not the manufacturer does not take it under warranty.

      @@linden5480 You know whats worst? They are right - that usually nature of coil whine, and nature of RMA. Its all up to shop and manufacturer if they decide to fix it or replace it.
      But for that one specific card, i'm sure its faulty GPU (bad components). Here's why:
      - Tested PC on 3 wall outlets (different power)
      - Tested with UPS
      - Tested on total 5 different PSU's.
      Most GPU coil whine is normal at 140-160+ FPS, but no at 30 or 60 FPS, as mine (from video) and yours. All you can do is send it back with no given reason and choose different model. In Future be extremally carreful with XFX - best to buy used, with option to test them out in seller's PC or your PC before buy.
      New Gen GPU is also new gen, totally new level of coil whine.

      Right now definitely 6800XT. year ago i would recommend 3070 Ti, but now, in newer titles RT performance is gonna be weak, plus 8GB VRAM is gonna get into signs.
      Not sure what region are you from and what prices you see in shop, but if 6800 XT, go straight into MSI or ASUS. Dont even consider other brands as coil whine is around 80% chances.
      You may consider even 6900 XT or 6950 XT - check their prices before buying, sometimes there are great discounts and those cards can be cheaper than 6800 XT.

    I can only imagine how do you fell, really I amafraid for you, really, and I certainly think it's true, but I also have to say that I have the same Gpu you have and I do more of 19500 points with the stock Gpu, in 3D Mark, graphic, end more than 18000 in spy. It's new, liquid cooled, and I'm finishing to bild the PC, so I only did a first rapid benchmark for verifying it was... almost normal? I will give images and photos of what I'm saying, but really, I have to say it, my Merc 319 core is a Monster. A monster. I don't look at 3080ti, I look at 3090. Wine coil? Yes, a little, because I use core P3 bench without the glass, and nearest of half meter you hear that, but... it was mute volume... I was really near... I've never spend my money better. Sorry if I say this to you, but so is.

      Happy for you. I have sended back this, and bought 6800 XT from MSI (Gaming Z) - only clicking noise on idle, and some whine in Far Cry 6, but not terrible. This XFX from video, was so loud, that only standing behind door would stop it.

    Wiesz może czy takie same problemy zdarzają się z wersją SWFT? Mam do wyboru z trzech 6800 XT (PowerColor Red Dragon, XFX SWFT i ASRock), a akurat te XFXy fajnie wyglądają. Nigdy nie kupowałem karty AMD, więc jakaś porada by się mogła przydać :p

    • @vlad_8011
      @vlad_8011  Рік тому

      Nie mam niestety żadnych informacji odnośnie SWFT, jednak po opiniach na Amazonie można wyczytać, że też jest tego sporo. Na Twoim miejscu wybrałbym ASrocka - z tych trzech modeli masz największe szanse ustrzelić cichą sztukę. Zawsze pamiętaj, że undervolting może pomóc, jak i on zawiedzie, masz 14 dni na zwrot. Dzisiaj nie musisz się obawiać że kart braknie, więc wybierz pewny sklep i próbuj ;)

      There is no microphone, that would catch this frequency sound far from PC. That's why I placed phone directly in top of GPU, underneath, and next to it. You need also crank up volume to 100% while I'm doing this. That's basics on all coil whine videos.

      You are completely wrong. FPS does matter, as coil whine usualy starts at 150+ FPS in normal, correctly made card. It is loud, as i stated in video - i can hear it very loud all over the room. Thats called bad batch.
