If one could fall in love with a car, this is about as close as it gets for me. It's almost as if someone today tried to create an automobile representing "mid-century" or "space-age" '50's design. The car is gorgeous in and out. Every detail. In that Palm Springs setting, in that Palm Springs sun, you can almost hear the car go "AHHHHHHHH!" LOL :)
We have holidayed in glorious Palm Springs every year for the last 25 years and love the architecture, people, cars and people and the shopping's not bad either! What a lovely car that matches Palm Springs perfectly!
Nearly at a loss for words, but I'll try. Perfection, yet not too far over the top! How many times can you say anodized aluminum (brings a smile to my face) Even the gas cap door had its own flare. Fury is power + stately elegance!!!! I knowwww! Thanks Charles!
That model Fury has always been a favourite of mine. They were rare enough in the UK but there was a blue one down the road from us - actually a 58, I think - and I fell in love with it.
Charles: I enjoy your videos so much! They are like a trip back in time, and so joyous. I can escape all the nuttiness of these times with your videos. Thank you for the effort you put into these documents of automobile greatness.
There was a reason Virgil Exner was so famous, and this car is it. Most of the 57-58 Mopars represent the best of Exner. Love the automotive styling...and I LOVE that house!
Lovely “Joyride” choice this week! My parents had a 1970 Fury III sedan that I totaled when I hit a bridge with it at 16....hit it right there in the middle of the hood, between the “M” and “O” of “Plymouth”...it was light blue and a nice middle class car. Perhaps Charles you remember the 64 crayon box of Crayolas (by the Binney & Smith Co., if memory serves...)...one of those 64 delightful colors was “Flesh”, which was a very 1960s blend of beige, pink, orange and brown...a color that made me somewhat uncomfortable as a child...well, as Fate would have it, there’s a ‘57 Fury in Flesh and Cream that comes out of its garage in warm weather here in the foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains, near the famous Blue Ridge Parkway here in western NC...I’m sure it’s owner would be tickled pink (flesh?) to know your latest “Joyride” featured a fine car like his. Whee!
Gorgeous!!! I just received a bin full of die cast cars from a friend whose husband passed away recently. One of the cars is a '58 Fury in the same colors, what a beautiful machine. Thanks to Joe G. in Heaven, I'm glad I got to meet him a few times! True car guys are getting scarce these days, you can't talk about cars with a Camry owner.
I was damn near born in the backseat of a 57 Fury - but darn it my dad got mom to the hospital just in the nick of time. Our Fury had an automatic transmission but 2 (count 'em - two) four-barrel carburetors on a huge engine. A lot of people took their brand-new cars out to the drags without changing a thing. When I was four - standing in the front seat at a stoplight (nobody used seatbelts) my mom hit the gas a little too hard. Next thing I knew I was somehow sitting in the back seat! I had flipped over - my hard shoe heels leaving two black marks across the ceiling of the car. Those were the days!!
New subscriber and binge watching. Love this car, thanks to Chris! Love the sound effects--bring them on. Love the ending with the starburst coming off the rear wheel.
Wow, Charles!!! That car is truly amazing...An actual time capsule! I simply can't imagine how anything could be that old and in such perfect original condition. Time has actually stopped on that vehicle! My Dad had a 1959 Fury 4 door hardtop...It was white with a black and white interior. It was definitely flashy with those huge fins and all the chrome, and I was oh so impressed with that push button transmission! But that car bit the dust a long, long, long time ago. Thanks for such an enjoyable channel! I always look forward to seeing what you'll be coming up with next! I KNOW!!!!!!!!
This isn’t just a car it’s a work of art. I’ve loved this car for years and years. I actually plan to paint one soon. The shame of it is that I’ve never even seen a fury being English but I’d give my remaining testicle to own one. By far the most beautiful car ever made. ☹️
Love your "Joyride" vids! This is major. This is real. This is deep. The all new for 1957, Plymouth Fury, with RARE anodized gold trim! Behold the glory! I knooow! This is an original 91,000 mile pristine Christine! It doesn't get any better than this! (Ok, Christine's a commie red '58, whatever, please don't ruin my barely contained excitement with nit-picky criticism)
we had a 57 belvedere, 2 door. white with sand top and side sweep. gold/white interior. mother of toilet seat steering wheel. that house and car go together like hand in glove. my dad loved that car.
I just Absolutely Adore the 57-58 Fury's I am a Diecast car collector and I have so many variations of these cars, Charles I wish you could find someone with a Christine Car and Do a Halloween Episode. Thank you for sharing this Gorgeous Lady.
As usual, a great joy ride production. That is one fantastic example of the Fury for 57. Beautiful. I like the lower part - under the bumper, of the 58 grill area better but... who can argue with this example. Just wonderful and you, Charles, make it so fun.
This is exactly the duplicate to the 57 we moved to California in Dec. 1963. It was flawless. Living in the San Fernando Valley....we received a lot of looks back than. In 1965 sold it to a man from San Bernadino.
My grandparents had a 1957 Plymouth Fury, and I remember being chauffeured around in it. I was riding in it when my grandfather got into an accident. It got repaired, but was never the same. My grandparents lived in Detroit, and I recall that the area above the headlights was extremely rusty after only a couple of years. They replaced it with a very basic Mercury Comet (1961, I believe).
The problem is the car in the book/movie is a '58 Belvedere but described as a fury. I know it's played off as a special order but realistically you wouldn't have been able to do that with the '56 '57 & '58 fury as it was a special edition only sold in beige with gold trim. So now you have all the movie fans restoring fury's and painting them red to look like the movie bah bah bah. Seeing one surviving in its original state is refreshing to see. I worked at a garage that had '59 sport fury for sale. It was black with a white top with a red/black interior even though it wasn't the Christine spec it still had that evil presence about it and it was an absolute pleasure to see it each morning when I arrived at work. No car has gave me that feeling ever and I wish I had the means to buy it. Sorry if I was rambling.
Thank you Charles, a 1957 Fury, a 1957 house in Palm Springs, Mid Century doesn't get any better than that!!! I'm so excited I might pass out, I knowww 😊
Eat your hearts out 57 Chevy lovers! A Fury is about as good as it gets.... think the subtle updates to the 58 made it a bit more desirable, especially the lower grill. In the class of a 300C or Adventurer. Thanks for the memories.
@@_charlesphoenix Hi Charles. I enjoy your videos. You haven't posted one in some time now. Will there be more car videos? I hope all is well with you. Happy Holidays.
Chrysler had it going on from 1955 through the late 60s, then came the 70s,and due to emissions control, all cars went to hell! now,it's all SUVS, in a wave of white, black, or gray.. keep them coming Charles! cheers 🍾🍾🍾🏳️🌈
Mopar enthusiasts, feast your eyes on this beauty! I know! Awesome looking car! My favourite years for the Plymouth Belvedere and Fury are 1957 and 1958. 🙂
@@_charlesphoenix I love everything about this car. The first time I saw one like this was in the Stephen King/John Carpenter movie "Christine". Stephen King wrote the novel, while John Carpenter made it into an awesome movie. If you've never seen the movie, you should check it out.
Wait! There’s a 60 Dodge in the garage too! Who is this guy?? I swear PS is the place to be for modern 50’s futuristic living...you can just feel the gold glow of optimism over the entire population
I fell for the '57 Plymouth Fury while watching a old "Highway Patrol" rerun where the bad guy drove a beautiful (New at that time) 1957 P white Plymouth Fury convertible into a Lady's garage and traded it for her ungainly looking Nash station wagon to elude the Highway patrol and make his escape !. I watch Highway Patrol reruns just to see the beautiful fifties' Era cars as they appeared new !!.
It is not for no reason that 1957 Plymouth ads read "Suddenly it is 1960!", and now it is up to us to add "Suddenly it is 2020!". Dear Charles Phoenix, I have a special favor to ask you to do in your next 4-door hardtop car: Please show the rear windows rolling down-up-down-up with that crazy pivotal movement back and forth. The new generations have no idea how it is done. And it is hard to explain in words! Notice the similarity between GM & Ford cars, but different from Chrysler. The former ones have, until 1960, vertical vent windows and frames that require pivotal action in the rear windows, while the latter have a light angle that helps rear windows roll straight, without pivoting. As example, compare the 1957 white Oldsmobile 88 with the 1960 white Plymouth Fury of your videos, both 4-door hardtops. Keep up the fantastic work you do! Thanks!
Oh my God-ness! What a find! That front end just says, " Get out of the way, royalty is coming through!" Like when a King and Queen would travel in their carriage, you can't help but stop, stare and point as they went by. The colors, the gold aluminium side spear, the interior, the fins. Congratulations and thank you Chris, magnificent!
Hi Charles, haven't seen a video in a couple of weeks, just hoping you are taking a break and are ok. I imagine you have other projects but just was slightly concerned.

BEAUTY - BEAUTY - BEAUTY - words cannot describe this automobile, lines, golden side panels and style....PURE BEAUTY!!! ❤
These were just old cars when I was growing up in the 60s. Thanks for highlighting them now and letting me see them in a whole new light.
Isn't that the truth? They'd take them out and wreck them filming the old The Highway Patrol TV show, and it makes me cringe.
This is one of the best looking cars ever made. It’s just gorgeous
WOW! I love the taillights on the 1957 much better than the 1958 and 1959. Also, this is the first 1957 I have seen with power windows.
Pull up to a 57 Chevy and watch there jaw drop... the fury is amazing...
"Suddenly, it's 1960!" (Chrysler Corporation 1957 slogan). I know.
Could play baseball on that trunk.
Great clean color combo - perfect for PS!
Hershey would be a great road-trip - huge show and the finest cars.
