Great work! We have a family of Kestrals here on our Honeycrisp Apple orchard. We mounted two nesting boxes about 20 feet off the ground on wooden power poles. They are part of our family for sure because they come back every year. We also have some Red Tailed Hawks that patrol the area, and a Great Horned Owl that I converse with on summer evenings when I'm out on the front porch. I just got a Nikon Z6ii and Nikkor Z 180-600mm VR lens. I'll be photographing our bird buddies this coming spring. I forgot to mention that we're in Eastern Washington state NW of the city of Yakima.

Love Kestrels. They are the bird of prey version of the Kingfisher. The epitome of cuteness and merciless cunning. I loved Kes, a bit bleak and sad but which highlighted one person’s appreciation of the bird and another’s ignorance. Keep up the great work Kevin.

Super footage, pics and info. I like how you cover everything clearly, and show examples of what you're talking about. The sound clips for bird calls and warnings are superb and VERY useful. Thanks!

Simply added an Arca Swiss baseplate to the lens. Remove the fitted footing that the 800 comes with. Hope that helps. Good luck.

A very enjoyable and instructional video, Kevin. When you are shooting the Kestrel hovering, what exposure compensation do you normally use to allow for the sky in the background +2?
