- Here is a tutorial on how to make an easy knit sweater vest. This is a beginner friendly knit and really easy to do. I used about 260 meters of yarn to make this (about 3/4 of one ball). Try it out and let me know what you think!

just to keep track :)) i've been looking for an easy tutorial to follow and this is exactly it!
8 row ribbing (smaller needle for tighter fit)
2:54 - start of body (first row has decreases)
5:29 - shaping arm holes (cast off 5 stitches on knit row and purl row)
7:45 - left leaning decreases (decrease in knit row, no decreases in purl row, repeat 14x) (decrease 7x over 14 rows)
9:30 - continue stoknette stitch for 20 rows
9:50 - mark neckline
10:24 - right leaning decrease
16:00 - back
18:00 - ribbing
what does it measure when she shapes the armhole.?
@@carolinelalam7542 i'm sorry i have no idea XD i still haven't finished this piece sadly
Thank you
Can’t believe this doesn’t have a lot of views, this was so helpful thanks a lot!!!
I can't thank you enough! Just finished the front piece. This is my first time knitting something other than a scarf and your instructions were so easy to follow! 💖💖💖
This video is so unbelievably good! Your explanations are thorough yet still succinct.. I went from knowing nothing about knit shaping to having a very thorough understanding by the end of the video. So so grateful for this. Thank you!!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH for this incredible tutorial!! I've literally never knitted a full project in my life before making this sweater vest, so it was so so helpful that you explained each stitch in full.
I just finished the front piece. Im a beginner and this tutorial is easy to follow 🥰🥰
Thank you for this video! it was my first time knitting a garment and it came out great! The front piece was a bit small for me but I was able to make a larger back and blocking also helped stretch it out. I am also a size large. I used about 900 ft to finish this.
Great video, thank you. Any recommendations how to adjust the pattern if I want to use larger needles - either 13 or 15 and thinner thread for an airier/see through vest?
can i use straight knitting needles? i badly wanna try to make this but i don't have cable needles and i'm also too lazy to buy one T^T
i’ve never knit anything before and i’m almost done the front of this vest. thank you so much for this in depth tutorial!!! it’s perfect!!
i left a comment a few months ago and wanted to update to say I finished! once again, thank you so much for this amazing tutorial!!!
Glad to hear! :) Thank you!
Hello :)). I was wondering how I could make this vest a S/M size? Do you know how many stitches I’d have to cast on? (Thank u in advance 💜)
Hey I'm sorry if this comes off as annoying but I am noticing that you are twisting your purl stitches; you are wrapping the yarn clockwise from the bottom up while a typical purl stitch goes counterclockwise top down. While it can be a knitting style on its own, twisted stitches have less stretch and can create tension issues when following a pattern that calls for conventional purling so I thought I'd mention it (as well as for everyone following this video)
She is also knitting through the back look whi k untwists the purls
She is knitting Eastern style. What you are describing is Western style.
original comment was asking what kind of yarn, i listened over once again and she said weight 4 acrylic for anyone who didn't hear that.
I’m able to knit scarves and snoodies, but I have not yet tried any actual clothing because I just dont feel im talented enough, im not scared but I just feel uncomfortable doing it and I feel like I cant, however, I’m going to finally give it a try!
It’s overwhelming but I’m going to take this step by step, thank you for the video! :)
I’m happy to hear that!! Best of luck :))
Thank you for uploading! Is there a written pattern instruction document for this?
Most helpful knitting tutorial ever omfg
Thank you for this video. It is very well explained. Could you make a v-neck version?
Thank you!! And that's a great suggestion, I'll keep that idea in mind :)
Hi I loved this! I was wondering how to figure out how many stitches to do for a different size? Thanks :)
i watched your video to learn knitting a neckline and it helped me so much 😭 tysm
This is EXACTLY what I have been looking for in a tutorial!!! Going to try it out thanks!
Found out this gem, love the color 😍 and also your ways in doing knitting is much clearer than any tutorials I've seen, thank you 😄
really lovely, thanks for sharing this great project .. imma casting on now :) and, as others have mentioned, it’s so nice not to have to fudge the numbers for a smaller size - this size will be perfect!
what numbers did u use for a size small? I’m a size small as well :)
Thankyou for this amazing pattern! I tried it out myself with a few modifications to fit my measurements but otherwise it looks amazing! Thankyou very much for this helpful tutorial 🥰
I really love how this vest looks, was looking for one just like this! Can you suggest how many stitches I should do for a size medium or small? Thank you!
Thank you!!! I’m not too sure how many stitches you would need exactly, I used 68 stitches and that gave me about 19” width for each half (~ 3.5 stitches per inch if that helps). Every yarn is different though so it’s hard to say for sure and this did stretch a bit as well. Hope that helps a bit!
@@sewsam7361 thanks! I will calculate into cm but good to know how much approx 1 inch is.. I will experiment a bit, also will try with 3 mm and 4 mm needles to make it a bit more dense, so will need more stitches I guess
@@martamaljkovic5242 no problem & good luck!!
@@martamaljkovic5242 Hey can you please tell me how many stitches you did? I am size s/m too and a beginner.
@@marge6581 I did in the end use 68 stitches aswell but I used a thicker yarn with thinner needles so it was the right width for me. For the yarn I have it was recommended to use 5-7 mm needles, but I used 3 and 4 mm so it turned out pretty dense but that's how I wanted it. I hope it helps somewhat
PLS PLS PLS DO THIS TUTORIAL WITH A V NECK!!
heyaaa im following your tutorial and love it. ine question tho: is there a particular reason why you dont to the ribbing in the end around the armholes and neck in the round?
Thank you so much for this tutorial, it's too hard for me to find a tutorial for plus size folks. ❤
Hey, great video !
I have a few questions though.
How do you know how much to decrease for the arm holes and collar ? Did you measure anything else beside the width of your torso from side to side ? Or is that information enough, and it automatically turns out okay just by following the tutorial ?
How stretchy is it ? I am on the bigger side, and i'd like to know if i should oversize it a bit after measuring my width for it to look good ?
Also, why did you decrease in the begining (every 8 stitches) ? Im new to knitting and i was wondering if that was necessary, and if so, why ?
Again, thank you for the tutorial, and have a nice day !
Thank you so much for making this! I've been looking for a tutorial like this, I've been knitting scarves and bags for years and wanted to finally make a garment haha
Fantastic tutorial you really are the best out there - sincerely meant! I am a straight needle girl does it work the same way with regard to number of stitches you cast on etc ? Would love it if someone could give me some advice. Love from Sydney Australia 😁🙏💗☮️🐨🇦🇺
Thank you!! 🧡 it should work the same way with straight needles - to get the sizing a bit more accurate maybe start with a gauge swatch to count and measure stitches for a better fit :)
This tutorial is so easy to follow! Thank you.
Thank you, easy to follow
Thank you , so easy to follow, please do more!
This tutorial is so amazing! Thank you so much! Although do you know how many stiches i need to make a small/medium size? (new subscriber btw 😍)
Would I make this in the same way if I were to use straight needles instead ?
yeah, in another comment she replied to she said you could.
@@JordanJah thanks 😊
Hey can I use the arm hole shaping for any size really need an answer
Thank you for this tutorial!
This helped so much! Thank you. I did something bad tho. I thought I needed the width to be bigger and now I am faced with a back panel that is way too wide for my body. Do you think I coud do something to salvage it? Or I should just start over?
sorry to hear that... probably starting over is the best bet
Oh no! I’ve done that before too. Your best bet is to probably start over unfortunately. Good luck with it!!
ty for the clear tutorial u are very talented. I am an x-large tho i was just wanted to know how you get some of the stiches of the stick without the stiches falling so you have room for more???
Thank you so much!! I usually find that circular needles prevent this from happening, or longer straight needles! Hope that helps :)
Love this vest just my size!
This tutorial is a godsend! I have a few questions, I hope you see this message and can respond! 🙏🏻 after the first rows of rib when you start to do the stockinette you decrease the stitches. Do you do this to get a straight fit, and if you wouldn’t do this would it create like puffy effect? Also when you do the ribbing on the arm and neck holes why do you work back and forth and don’t just keep going around? Is there a specific reason?
Thank you!! 🧡 I decreased the stitches after the first row for a more straight fit, yes :)) I don’t think it would be too puffy without it since it’s only a few stitches it’s just a preference for me. And no specific reason I did that, just the way I usually do it although I appreciate that because I didn’t even think about working in the round for that 😅 hope that helps!
Thank you so much for making this video 🥰it was very helpful
hi i only have size 5 needles, will the ribbing still work if i use the size 5 for it too? or do i need to buy a size 4 needles?
I always like to go down in size to do the ribbing it just makes it look a bit tighter to me. I’m sure it would still work , it just might not be as much of a difference :)
hi! i just started this using size 5 too and the ribbing looks fine! i do agree that it would look better with smaller needles but it’s not bad~
Awesome video!! Do you have a written pattern for this vest? Kudos♥️♥️
I don't have any written patterns yet unfortunately, sorry!
@@sewsam7361 It's fine! I started to make it and your instructions are enough as for now. Thank you very much❤️❤️
super cool tutorial. would it work with regular needes too, or do they need to be circular?
Thanks! You definitely could use regular straight needles to make this too :)
@@sewsam7361 Nice. I'm just starting out learning to knit and I'm so lost. Videos like this are so helpful
What size is this for and how long is it from shoulder to waist?
i think i can do this, i do, i do, i'm gonna cry while trying aint i? Hahaha
Did you make it?
Hello, how many stitches should I cast on for small to medium size?
Hi! I’m not sure exactly how many stitches you would need - I’d recommend just measuring the widest point of your torso, divide that by 2 and make a foundation chain that is that length. Hope that helps!
you need to learn basic measurements of knitting for making beautifully fitted garments. without fundamental teaching it would be just copying youtube tutorials like a parrot. i hv been asking same question about cast on stitches numbers according to different body sizes but no youtuber was able to give exact answer. finally i took some basic knitting classes then only i got to know maths behind cast on, armholes shaping, neck and other imp stuff.
Wow wow wow, thank you so much! I never find people who make them in my size 💕new sub
Do you know what size it is please?
@@bellab4797 im pretty sure she said it’s a large or x large
Very nice thank you for sharing ❤️
Can you guide to make this for a 10 year Old,
thank you so much for this! so helpful
Can I do this with straight needles?
Is it necessary to use two different needles?:)
Thank you, veryyy helpful!
Hey great video! I only have a 4.5mm needle does it still work?
Thanks!! 4.5mm needles should work just fine :)
Thanks a lot for sharing this video 🌸
where did you get the circular needles? what brand are they? Any link?
Hi! These are from Michaels, the loops & threads brand.
The right side of my vest with the decrease is looking perfect the other side not, why is happening that?
I have never knit a garment in stockinette before only lace things. It really curled on me. Do I need to block it before sewing it together?
Is it curling inward from the sides or upward? I think when you see the panels together that should stop the curling.
@@sewsam7361 inward from the sides. Looking at some other channels, people say that blocking first will help sewing together well. But there is not a lot of seam with is garment. I will see. I am still working on the backside.
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Can anyone advice what wool is needed?
Hello , I want to make this but with a lower neck line does any one know how to do this I would be very grateful:)
hi! If you wanted to make it with a lower neck you could try starting the neckline shaping closer to the cast off edges from the armpit, and having longer 'strap' sections... if that makes sense :)
@@sewsam7361 thank you sooo much I hope you have a lovely day ❤️😊
So cool and can I make it with only one size of needles? With needles n. 4?
Yeah you can for sure! The ribbing is just slightly tighter with the 2 size needles. :)
How come you don’t knit the ribbing in the round? Is it ok to do this?
You can definitely knit it in the round if you like!! :)
Hos do you see The differensier of The nit side and The pro side?
The knit side is more “v” shaped stitches and purls have more of a horizontal bar across them, if that makes sense!
What size are you making here?
For whatever reason, ribbing the neck is near impossible, I can't tell if my needle cable is too long or short (isn't there a standard size?) but I can't move the needles once I have created stitches. Can someone help?
It sounds like the cables might be too short. There’s lots of different size circular needles I’d recommend trying a bigger size. I think the ones I usually use are 36” or 90cm. Hope that helps!
What size did you knit in?
what’s your yarn tension for this project?💜
I’d say I have a pretty relaxed tension but it’s mostly the same for every project for me! I think whatever is a comfortable tension for you would work :)
5:30 arms
16:00 back info
18:00 ribbing
Do i need to use circular knitting sticks?
You should be able to use straight needles since there’s no knitting in the round! :) Circular needles do make the ribbing around the neck and arms easier though.
@@sewsam7361 thank you!
@@Amanee__ no problem 😊
It would be easier with some written instructions.
You can make a pattern from the transcript.
Was this made with just one skein of yarn?
I used just under one skein of yarn, yes :)
@@sewsam7361 thank you!
What size is this :(?
I made this vest in a size xl :)
5:33 armholes
It was a pretty good tutorial but i failed and had a meltdown🥲 But it was good❤️❤️
Thank you!! And I’m sorry to hear that, don’t give up! 🙃🧡
