  • HMCR is using NS 2402 while their switcher is down with mechanical problems.
The first segment in next to Heart of Huntsville Drive between Clinton and Monroe, just south of the HMCR office and NS interchange. The second and third segments are next to L&N Drive, north and south of Drake Avenue respectively. The bridge in the first segment is over Pinhook Creek.
The HMCR was waiting for NS to leave a car. After this car was dropped by the NS local the HMCR coupled that car to two cars they already had next to the locomotive and headed south.
The HMCR was part of an NC&StL branch that became part of the L&N after the 1957 merger.
All of the namesakes of the streets used in the video no longer exist. The Heart of Huntsville Mall was demolished and L&N Railroad was merged into CSX.

I was happy to catch this. Usually when I drive by the locomotive is locked up in the pen. I had some free time that morning and got lucky for a change.

Is this in Huntsville Tennessee? I was looking for a video on that branch and finally found one.

They scrapped 8923 in 2013. Now they only have 8933.

CameraBryan A friend told me they're getting a GE locomotive. He didn't know the specifics other than it's a 2300 hp.

There's been a rather sad looking CSX road switcher sitting on the HMCRR for the last couple of weeks. My first thought was that they had brought it to cannibalize for 8933. But I saw it heading south on Monday or Tuesday morning of this week.

gerardmdelaney The U23B is now the HMCR's locomotive. This NS engine has been taken away by NS.
