Looks like ya boy was wrong!! Some comments are telling me that there were signs in S1 of Charlie’s ED, and there definitely were. Did not pick up on it at all. The writers did a good job of having it present from the beginning.
The bullying and Ben triggered Charlie’s ED. In Season 1 he skipped lunch, food at the cinema and pizza with Tori so he hasn't been eating like normal for a while now
15:17 Charlie mentions in season 2 that it's something that gets bad when he doesn't feel in control of his life because it's the only thing he feels he can control. It got worse after the bullying when he was outed (before the events of season 1). In season 1 you can see him picking at his food (messing with his cereal but not eating it after he broke up with Ben) and refusing food (turning down popcorn at the cinema while he was around Ben and Harry and turning down pizza from Tori after his fight with Tao). It was always there, but it came into the foreground in season 2. I think they did a good job with making it subtle because it is something people miss until it's bad enough to be unavoidable.
I was the one who alerted my parents to my sister's anorexia and bulemia. By that time she weighed 95 lbs. She had damaged her heart and had to get a pacemaker installed. But it saved her life and she was put in the hospital and got treatment. She was 19 then and now she's healthy at 60.
Sadly some parents do get mad when their kids tell them about their mental health problems. My mother did when I told her years ago that I had wanted to unalive myself for most of my teens, after a lot of therapy thankfully I dont any more. After the way my mother reacted I no longer speak with her. My therapist said my mother probably never learned how to deal with her emotions and can only show anger and she thought my mental health was a reflection of her bad parenting (which is partially was). Dealing with mental health as a child can be very difficult when your parents also need therapy but refuse to believe anything is wrong.

…. If you’re gonna tell me the instances in which Charlie skipped food in season 1 were obvious indications that he had an ED, I will call you disingenuous. The writers and directors did a good job of weaving in signs in season one-as I’ve now seen-but it’s so subtle that you don’t necessarily pick up on it until it’s a bit more obvious in S2. If you are so amazing in media literacy that you saw those signs in S1 with no prior knowledge and went “Charlie has an ED” then kudos to you. But don’t say “how have you not noticed” as if it was the most obvious thing. I’ve skipped meals too. Doesn’t mean I have an ED, and it isn’t something I would just assign someone. And I’d apply that to most people watching too, since I didn’t hear any conversation surrounding a potential ED around the time S1 aired at all-barring those who’ve read the graphic novels.
Well said. While I suspected some eating issue by the finale of the first season, but it wasn’t until reading the comics when it confirmed he had an ED. It was subtly layered in and I’m surprised I noticed anything.
