- Around 4 a.m. on February 17, 2014, DEA agents and Mexican marines launched an operation to capture Sinaloa cartel leader Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán. They had tracked El Chapo to a safe house in the city of Culiacán, and the raid began when the marines started hammering on his front door with a battering ram.

For anyone wondering, carlos ramirez ( known as el condor)was the guy who showes the police the bathtub. He was instructed by el chapo to do that and he was one of el chapos closest men. He is not dead and he is out of prison, he probably has gone back to the Sinaloa cartel. «Edit: he is not out of prison, he serves a long sentence in a high security prison. He was captured a little bit before chapo.

To the people whining about how they showed the guy's face:
1. It's called witness protection.. He's literally a worker at El Chapo's safe house. He automatically gets top priority for protection obviously if needed. For example there's loads of people *still* being protected by the government just because they testified in the El Chapo trial and the court wanted to put on a big show by having all these colorful witnesses and stories. They handout heavy government protection left and right to these people.
2. The cartel obviously already knows who was in that house. This video doesn't tell the cartel anything they don't already know. They're not incompetent or unorganized and they plan for these typical outcomes. Besides, El Chapo is reportedly the one who told him to show them the tub in the first place. He did as he was instructed and from what I understand this guy actually ended up in prison.
there was no protection for him whatsoever mate. Carlos is still serving an almost life time sentencing still, and you dont have to blur convicted criminals faces out of evidence/media. He deserves better tho. He was instructed by guzman to stay back and let the DEA find him to stall more.

They can obviously show his face *because* he's protected. That's literally the only reason they are showing it.. The cartel already knows who he is and that he was there AND he already is getting federal protection which means the criminals already know your identity, the feds just have to protect you now. How do you think people testified against El Chapo at the trial? They put on a circus by bringing so many witnesses to the trial and yes they're all still heavily protected to this day. Pretty late, but the reason those doors took so long to break down was because Chapo had his engineers redirect the cooling system to enter the doors. Battering rams work the way where it heats up the door to the point of weakening it. With the cooling system redirected, it defeats the purpose of the battering ram. This man may be evil, but he's sure as hell smart.

@Tribhuvan Shekhawat No actually Mexico's economy and elites rely heavily on the billions made from the illegal drug trade. The country will be even worse off economically if the drug trafficking stops. Traditionally, the cartels typically earn far more money than even the country's other top exports. So they're never going to let that stop. The president isn't even at the top of the food chain and he's just a puppet for the ones pulling the strings in Mexico city.

@@direct2397 I mean yeah, but that would take some time to set up, would give them time to notice and run, it could damage the evidence or persons inside (including possible hostages), could feasibly light the house on fire, and it's smack dab in the middle of a residential neighborhood.
I'd personally stick with the ram (though I'm a civilian, so take my advice with some salt). Less risk for everyone involved, evidence is still intact, and even if they didn't get him they flushed out another hiding spot.
Ryan Casey Military and Law enforcement personnel know exactly how much explosives to use to knock down a door. It has been done many times before in places where you’d deem too dangerous for explosives. The Las Vegas shooters apartment door was breached with explosives and that was inside a large story building. The explosion won’t start a fire. Just a boom and done. The radius isn’t large either. The explosive device is already assembled so it just needs to be set in front of the door, hence, no noise at all. The Mexican military’s poor choice of the battering ram quickly alarmed El Chapo and his men to the incoming raid and even gave them a 10 minute head start since that’s how long it took for the door to come down. My guess is that the Mexican military did it on purpose in order to let El Chapo escape. You never know what goes on behind closed doors.

To clarify the confusion some may have, this has to be from the first time they caught him in Mazatlan in 2014. For one , the camouflage pattern on the uniform is older. The Naval Infantry changed to the new one in 2015. I didn't know they have released footage. When they caught him for good in 2016 they carried out the cisne negro operation. There are many videos online about it.
