1. Mate, men and women can't generally be friends. Because either one will catch feelings for each other. There are some small exceptions. Like if both are married and are not doing 1 on 1 meet ups.
2. Not sure how being a Christian goes against men and women being friends.
How can you assume that? He never mentions it. If you follow the logic, men being friends with men and women being friends with women are the most optional friendships. There would be no weird sexual tension if one party likes the other party more.
