Beautiful work as always. Those Opinels are such a great steel to sharpen. They are perfect practice knives.

I have a Spyderco Med. One side lapped to 400 and a fine with one side lapped to 1000 grit. Love them!

I have been using all 3 of the Spyderco ceramic bench stones for years dry. Do they work better with oil? Also I clean them with an eraser and then bar keepers friend when loaded up. How do you clean using oil? Thanks. Great videos!

Thank, appreciate it! I used them dry for years and also with soap/water however I went back to plain ol' mineral oil and seems to work best at least for me. I clean the same way, they're not porous so you don't have to be concerned with mixing oil and water. I clean with bar keepers + sponge and eraser, they just don't load when using oil like they do when using dry.

@@NORTHWESTKNIFEGUY i found that wd40 works even better than mineral oil. It cleans deeper and you do not have to wash them, just rub the surface with your hand and wipe with paper. This applies to other ceramics as well. Also, medium is a bit porous. It absorbs both water and oil.

Ive been looking at the ceramic for touchups on my blades. Do you know of any alternative ceramic style stones that would work well? Thanks for the vid!

I have seen a few others out there but cannot attest to their quality and how they perform. Ever look at something like an Idahone ceramic rod, they are very high quality and not too overly expensive. Just have to keep in mind that on a ceramic rod you're dealing with far less surface / contact area so you really need to be mindful of the amount of force/pressure you use.

@@NORTHWESTKNIFEGUY I've got a few ceramic honing rods right now but the actual use of them is difficult because of it being a rod. They work so well for touchups. I suppose a Spyderco stone is in my future!

@@briank.7937 I know they're not cheap however they basically last forever.
