I’m still pissed we didn’t bring Diego Luna. Sickening how they actually have a young star from their beloved MLS and STILL WONT CALL HIM UP! He would easily be one of the 3-5 best players on this team!!! I hope to see Luna called into the A Team this fall

@luckymark571 Does he, though? And all the other US U-players who made camps (or not)--who is picking or not picking them? Whose values are enshrined in those selections? As it is now, we have marginal keepers (ex-slonina), back lines who can't read the game or play with the ball at their feet--who is picking them? All these players who play positions with their backs to goal (NIC target forwards like Vazquez)--who is picking them, cause they suck if they are professionals but can't execute basic play. Someone(s) is instilling their value sets on the player pools. those people are USSF employees.
Miles Robinson is such a good player that his club wants him away from the team for as long possible while they are top of the table 😂
The fact that Lennard Maloney didn't make either roster this summer is tantamount to negligence by USSF and this totally uncreative coaching staff. The guy is a legitimate Bundesliga starter and a key player of his team. This would have been the perfect tournament to try him at CB, a definite position of need at the senior level.
I agree, Tac, Neal should be there over either Robinson or Zimmerman.
Pepi should have been brought as a CF, and Luna is a huge omission. I wouldn't be surprised if we lose him to Mexico after this snub and his issues with Mitrovic.
The sad thing is, we had an opportunity to put together a roster capable of at least challenging for a medal, but this ain't it...

Luna has 15 goal contributions in 20 MLS games at only 20 years old!!! He’s one of the best young players in not only MLS but the entire USA!
Quick little Schulte stan: he's being brought up in the Nancy crew system, which is extremely demanding of the GK playing with their feet. If he continues to develop in even better leagues I could see him providing real use for us. He's already much better than the beginning of last season

Mihailovic is having a great season at Colorado. A great setup man and team capt at Colorado. He's also scored a parcel of goals. As far as the entire roster goes, it's an under 23 team. No one's ever going to be that impressed with an under 23 team. Hopefully the coach has the group he wants and he can bring them together for a great tournament.
Neal over Zimmerman and use overage at rb like cannon or yedlin since we couldn’t get reynolds. Also Luna has to be there over Cremanschi for a super sub. So starting XI should have been schulte, yedlin or Cannon, Robinson, Neal, Tolkien in defense. Busio, Tessman, Djordie in the midfield. Booth, Peredes, Aaronson as a false nine

So I get the annoyance with MLS players. But we can’t keep saying the development here sucks, and then as the MLS academies get better and grow, turn around and shit on them. Like MLS academies keep getting better every year.

Did Jalen Neal maybe not get released? I think starting 2 overage CBs is pretty smart tbh. Strength and experience will be huge there. Bringing Djordie is insane though.

remember, this is only because USSF ignores youth development and punts it all to MLS. We could develop players and clubs the way the rest of the world does it, or we can take our cues from MLB and NFL.

The omission of Luna is absolute lunacy! If not the best, certainly the most exciting player on that roster. Is he injured? Why else would he not be included?

Congrats to Canada, and I'm rooting for them, but this comment seems a bit disingenuous. It comes across as trying to push an idea equating the quality of MLS players to those based internationally. Look, Canada made it out of their group being up a man for most of two games and scoring 1 goal in the entire group stage. Then, they got past the mighty Venezuela on penalties in the quarters. Again, congrats on the accomplishment, but let's keep things in perspective. It's not any kind of proof as to the quality of MLS or its players.

@@RonnieM90 Dude, that isn't the same logic at all. You are forgetting that the whole Argentina teams plays on the biggest teams in Europe. Messi at this point has been one of the weakest points on the Argentina team. Congrats to Canada but you have to be realistic and know that a bit of luck has been on their side. If they do not get destroyed by Argentina and Manage to pull a win, then your logic will make more sense. But right now it is all circumstance.

Our first team got grouped in the Copa. I don't mind sending other guys. Until the entire USSF has a top to bottom restructuring with people who know what it takes I'm not going to get my hopes up. Luna should have gone over McGlyn.

Mitrovic refusing to name Diego Luna to the team seems like the Berhalter - Reyna feud all over again. Why didn't USSF promote Mikey Vargas, who had qualified this group into the Olympics for the first time in a decade? They played well and with distinction during qualification? What exactly were Mitrovic's qualifications to take over this group?

Luna had such a slow start this season. This roster was picked before this weekend’s games so his stats were not that great. Wish he had made the team, but Mihilovic will be taking every corner, every free kick anyway.
In my opinion, even if they sent their best roster, I think France and Argentina would still have better rosters.

Mitrovic flew out to speak with Bajraktarevic personally. Even though Esmir will be available for the next Olympics and it being only an 18-man roster, he was less than thrilled with being left off. Don't be surprised if he ends up playing nationally for Bosnia.
That looks like what’s going to happen, unfortunately. It would be a damn shame because we need talented wingers, and he is going to go overseas eventually.

hes already chosen bosnia and has filed paperwork with FIFA for the switch, it was always his first choice, sorry, even if he made the roster, US never had a chance.

Gregg actually did a reasonable job of selling him on the USA and the opportunities it would create for him. He's a good kid and I while I hope he sticks with the USA, I completely understand why he'd go with Bosnia and his family's heritage.

Our country was independent by blood just a generation ago and on top of that hes from Srebrenica. Bosnian diaspora almost feel an obligation to play for the country. National side is not treated like a club for most in balkans, so that talk about career opportunities means nothing. He wears a golden lily necklace everyday, hes proud of his heritage. hes not the first that has denied playing for a better national side to play for BiH and wont be the last. Its very common

Some of those athletes do not seem like they would be great association football players. Messi is 5'7". There are not many NFL, NBA, and MLB players that are 5'7". Jose Altuve is a 5'6" MLB player, but he is Venezuelan.
Also, in my opinion, MLB players do not seem really fast. I read somewhere that Mookie Betts ran a 4.7 40. He is 5'9", so that is not fast for his height. Even if you look at the NBA, Stephen Curry does not seem like he runs a really fast 40. There are also some NFL players who are not really fast. Patrick Mahomes ran a 4.8 40. I feel like many of the USMNT players could run a faster 40 than Mahomes.

Again, Messi is 5'7". Mbappe is 5'10. Vini Jr. is 5'9. They all have a low center of gravity. Tyreek Hill could probably translate well because he has a low center of gravity, but I am not sure if a 300+ lbs OL like Jason Kelce would translate well.

Other teams are sending some of their best players from Europe we are sending none. This is why the casual fan doesn't get excited about US soccer. French roster has top league starters.
