I love video games and sports but I like singing and I hate wearing dresses my ex boyfriend couldn't understand that so I broke up with him. I got a new boyfriend and he understands. and I do agree it's choice. be how you want to be don't let society choose for you.

I feel really bad for people who have to deal with this whole "gender role" crap. Why can't we be the way we want to be? Society shouldn't be telling other people how to live.
Earlier at school a 4yr old was told to 'Sit like a lady' . Like, what the hell does that even mean? How do you sit like a lady because I really don't get it?
"living up to gender roles.. don't you think it's funny, how they tell us how to live" This song stole my heart. Just to be sure, It is talking about transexualism, right?
+Prince-Oliver transsexualism? Being trans means that you feel uncomfortable in the body you were born in, or rather, the sex you were born in. So, a girl is born, and she feels uncomfortable in her body as a female, and wants to be a boy. Most of the cases, it causes people like that to be looked upon negatively, they get bullied, called names and MOST often "gay" (because they dress up as the opposite sex, and for some reason that is "gay" for them), etc. so they get gender disphoria. Basically, they're depressed about their gender.
OK, so in class once I requested to play this song over everyone else's usual pop requests. Everyone else now thinks I'm crazy and I do get quite a lot of crap for it. Honestly, I think kids need to listen to this songs powerful message before deeming it stupid...
Yeah... This is how i feel about anaconda: THIS SONG IS SO RETARTED... ITS ALL ABOUT BUTTS... ITS ALL ABOUT BUTTS... ALL I GET IS SURGERY EVERY DAY... I GET SURGERY EVERYDAY... THATS WHY MY BUTTS SO BIG. YAY! THIS SONG GOT ME OVER 1MIL DOLLARS.: im with you...
As a trans kid i relate to this song so much...I'm ftm and there's a lot of judgement about how i don't fit the man gender roles and i always have to worry about what I'm doing and how i do it.
Miss Cupiid me too but I’m scared to tell my father is going to have a melt down about it when I ask to cut my hair above my shoulders he yelled at me “NO you need to look like a girl and he only lets me cut my hair to my shoulders but I’d never down it my step mom had a fit when my sister did it
I just realized my dad gender roled me.... When I was a bit younger I asked for an Xbox for Christmas. He said "Those are for boys. How bout something different?" I thought I was angry because he said no. But really I was mad because he said they're for boys. But really it doesn't matter. A girl could have an Xbox. And I'm one of those girls. But my dad thought differently.... Gender roles are the worst....
My dad bought us an Xbox, it sat in the box for over a year before we even opened it XD my brother and step mum had time to fully move out before we opened it XD
Honestly, this song means so much to me. It's not about breaking up with your boyfriend, it's about stereotypes and gender roles. Things like that are worse than your stupid boyfriend. Every time I'm somewhere I can request a song, I request this. It's amazing and I think Ben needs to make more music.
TWO YEARS LATER* YESSSSSSSSSSS I AGREE IT'S NOT ABOUT BREAK UPS OR BIG BUTTS, DRUGS, ETC IT HAS REAL MEANING!! I am a girl I like soccer, reading, drawing, hiking, I don't like being careful (Covered in scars :P), I HATE dressing up, I LOVE Fishing, camping, hunting, I love shooting bow and arrows. I hate stereotypes and how people get judged for being who they want to be. I don't like acting 'like a lady'. I love video games and doing 'guy things' People need to learn to respect that and leave people be. Love this song. Today is the first time that I've heard this and I have it on loop I FELL IN LOVE STOP THE STEREOTYPES!!!!
Like Imagine dragons and others (first thing I could think of off the top of my head, i know there are others who don't sing about bad things) this song is just wow
I'm not going to complain about the fnaf fans. I'm going to complain about the people telling them to 'stfu' I see more complaints than the actual people commenting about fnaf. But back to the song, its really amazing c: everyone is the same, whether you're transgender or not, so please, don't use gender roles as everyone wants to be happy.
this hits me extremely hard because I have a hard time identifying if I'm female or male. Like, some days I'll wear a dress and my hair will be straightened and such. Other days I'll want my hair to be short and want a Chest binder, I'll even snatch some of my bro's clothes and wear them. This song just speaks to me
CancerianEnvy 6969 THANK YOU SOMEONE KNOWS I used to think this song was about conformity but afte4 coming out as agender I realized: It's about struggling with gender identity in a world where cisgender is normal.
+Trick Graell i think it's just about gender rolls being too tough on people. i guess you could relate it to transgenderism, but i see it as more of an overall gender roll issue than about struggling with one's identity.
A 15 year old can write an amazing song about gender roles and how society is trying to say no to us and push us under the rug and shit but not get any recognition but some untalented/cliche people write stupid songs that seem like they mean something but all said before 1000 times and win Grammys for it what the fuck(no I'm not calling specifically someone out)
that is the fucking truth . heck , jene aiko and seven streeter sound exactly the same! but little side note benny and cameron boyce look like the could be brothers
"Into living up to gender roles and having absent minds." I quote because gender roles is not a great thing. Feminine or not, boys can have girl stuff. And in the original video it shows a girl opening a book. If I wasn't allowed to open a book, I would seriously just open a book.
Fudge'n THANK YOU like seriously finally a song about something other than love, break ups,and ... body...parts. Thank you Benny 4 raising awareness of the kids who are slowly slipping into depression and insanity because of bullies and peer pressure, and cyber bullies. Once again good job
"Put on false confidence just to feel alive" As a ftm trans person, I relate heavily to this. Just because I came out, cut my hair, and bought a chest binder doesn't mean I automatically love myself again. I hate myself. But I pretend to be alright and pretend to love who I am now because everyone around me assumes that's how it goes. As any other trans person would know, that's not how it works. Even after everything, a lot of people still take time to learn to love themselves. I'm not there yet, and I don't know if I ever will be. But I fake a smile and force confidence onto myself like a drug because that's the only way I ever feel alive and free. Thanks for coming to this shitshow of a TED-Talk.
As a genderfluid person, I relate a lot to your comment... I hope you'll soon feel better. Just remember that you don't have to put up a front of happiness. It's okay to be sad, it'll eventually pass with time but while you're struggling don't hesitate to talk to a friend if you need to. That can be really freeing to know that someone is supporting you. That's an occasion to let it all out.
This is NOT AT ALL like dollhouse. Dollhouse is about broken families and this is about gender roles. This song tells you straight up whats going on and dollhouse uses a metaphor. Also this is better
When I first heard this song (there wasn't any lyrics), I was like, "I need to see the lyrics." And it is official. This song is by far one of the best I've ever listened to.
Please stop comparing him to Melanie Martinez. Sure, their music is similar, but they’re two completely different people with different styles. Comparing someone to another person doesn’t make them feel good-especially when you make it seem as if they’re copying another being, when they’re not.
seriously this song throws out an important message.. kids now days need to listen to this and realize the world isn't about gender roles. I mean yes we are all raised differently, but kids now days and even older people needs to learn that you dont have to be a boy to wear this or be a girl to do this.. we are human.. we have skin.. we have minds, and we have hearts.. we can use them in the way we like to.. (: ~ sorry if this offended anyone, I was using common since and thinking about life now days (:~
Okay I was just reading strangers comments because that's what I do And most of them aren't about the song Why are you putting full paragraphs about your opinion of other people's comments Just listen to the song like good little internet explorers I'm pretty sure someone is going to say "But you just did what your comment said people are doing" or something along those lines I know man, I know But this is song is reeeallly awesome like seriously
3clipse Moonlight_xxx not trying to hate on you but he has said a 100 times that the song is actually about gender roles. Again not trying to hate, I’m NB myself.
@@Frenzy48 I think they mean that it hits harder for trans people bc we have more problems with gender roles than anyone else because of wanting to pass and other peoples judgment. I'm ftm and I wear skirts but I often get told I'm faking being trans bc 'skirts are for girls' and this song is saying that it's pure BS That's what I think anyway, sorry for the essay 😅
This is the song that sent me on my journey. I’m still travelling, I’m not sure when I’ll reach my destination. It’s nice discovering yourself, there’s always the downs. But there’s always ups too. And having friends help you always makes the journey more fun and better for all of us✌🏻
My dad grounded me for listening to this. He says it's "Untrue sh*t about genders and suicide for snowflakes" but I disagree with him. He believes there's boy girl and nothing more. No trans no non binary no they and no it. He or she is all my family believes in. But imma stand by people who despise gender roles and labels and keep listening to this no matter what my dad says.
I’m a trans guy. The second I started presenting as a boy, I was expected to be strong and confident. I don’t know how they’d all expect me to be confident when I’m not comfortable at all in my body. I cant be feminine at all, even when I feel like it. I can no longer cry in front of people without being called a wimp.
I'm also a trans guy and I experience simular things. it feels like I can't even like things that don't include sports or anything like that without being questioned and asked if I'm sure I'm a guy
Your comment shows that traditional gender roles doesn’t only affect men and women equally but also trans people and cis people equally wherever they identify as male or female
the worst part about gender roles is how girls can wear "men's clothes" and no one seems to care, but a guy wears "girly things" and you'll never hear the end of it!!! If a girl can be a tomboy a guy can be "girly"
Here are the Lyrics in text form: *Little Game - Benny* Play us like pawns and relentlessly confine, Into living up to gender roles and having absent minds Don't you think it's funny how they tell us how to live? Don't you think it's funny how we're all delinquent kids? Like, hush now, don't say, don't say Hush boy, oh hush boy, don't say a word Throw on a jersey and no one gets hurt Hush girl, oh hush girl, just bat your eyes Play our little game, play our little game Bounded all thoughts and corrected common sense You're raising suicidals with your predetermined titles Like "a mess, distressed, I am unimpressed, you're excess A dress is all you'll ever be." Gender roles impose control and deceive progressive times Welcome to the land of the broken minds Hush boy, oh hush boy, don't say a word Throw on a jersey and no one gets hurt Hush girl, oh hush girl, just bat your eyes Play our little game, play our little game [2x] We feign opulence just to get by Put on false confidence just to feel alive They can't hurt me anymore There's nothing left to break of me There's nothing left to take from me 'Cause, baby, it's easy to fake a smile When you've been doing it for a while Baby, it's easy to fake a smile When you've been doing it for a while Hush boy, oh hush boy, don't say a word Throw on a jersey and no one gets hurt Hush girl, oh hush girl, just bat your eyes Play our little game, play our little game [2x] Hush boy, oh hush boy ------ Hush girl, oh hush girl ------- Play... Play, Play... Play... Play, Play... Play? Play our little game Play our little game Play our little game Play our little game Play our little game Won't you play with me? * *Disclaimer: I don't own ANYTHING!!!! All rights reserved and all the rest of that stuff* *
This song is like one of the songs I obsess with and then forget about and then go back to obsessing over along with literally any fnaf song in existence
I did come here from a video about Mangle, but not because I think it fits 'em. I came here because I related to the part of the song used in it, so I wanted to hear the rest. And, I fully relate to it. I'm female in real life, but I want to be a boy, but society looks down on people like me. We're forced to be in these roles, but we wanna break out, and not act how our genders are seen. Be who we truly are inside.
TBH my friend sent me the link to this song. And I'm gonna just say I am a FNaF fan but this song doesn't remind me of FNaF. I'm just here to listen to music.
Can I ask you why you think of HS? I haven't read it yet, but I know the characters and I want an exPLANATION. TH3 PROS3CUT1ON S33S NO -EXPL4N4T1ON- CO1N.
It reminds me of FNaF ";-; *Im a mega FNaF fan though- I can think of any song fitting into FNaF- Example: *I can **-Kind Of-** find a place to put Alone by Nico Collins into FNaF* ";-;
When I was younger and listened to this, I of course never understood the lyrics, but I came upon this video again years later and realize what message the song is sending and- fffffff it's such a nice, strong song
This hits me close to home. I’m transgender FtM and I’ve always hated gender roles. In gym, although teachers never imply for it, girls always stay on one side in groups and boys on the other. Me and my other transgender friend were in the middle. The only two of us. The weirdos. It pains me how girls wearing oversized hoodies and messy hair with no makeup is “unladylike” and guys wearing dresses, pretty hair, and makeup is “gay”. Society, let us live our lives in peace.
I think the chorus' meaning is like whenever people try to stick up for their "roles" they're always hushed and brainwashed into gender roles, hence the "hush boy/girl, throw on a Jersey/just bat your eyes"
Dollhouse: Places places get in your places throw on your dress and put on your doll faces Little Game: Hush boy, oh, hush boy Dont say a word. Throw on a jersey and no one get hurt. Yes, I see the similarities but the topic is different...
This song actually gained me a friend when a fellow queer kid on my bus heard me listening and we started talking!! I felt really open with him and now that hes graduated I really miss him. Luv u Alex!!
I remember listening to this a lot when I was younger Now I'm basically an adult for two years Accepting being comfortable with being born female, yet I still need to find myself whilst realising how gender roles as a whole are absolute bullcrap which resulted in me wearing whatever the hell I want, not caring if it's for men or women Still unsure if the fact that my father attempted to raise me male when I was a toddler while later being raised a girl by my mother who still allowed me to do what i wanted played a part in this development
Everyone: "When i was a kid my mom didnt get me a toy because she thought it was only for boys/girls" Me: "My mom just didnt get me a toy when i was a kid because we were broke as shit lmao"
People don't look for song that have deep meanings, they usually look for songs that sounds nice and have nice rhythm. People like trap music and nothing's wrong with that. People like ballads and nothing's wrong with that. Y'all need to get the fact that not everyone's gonna like the same thing ingrained in your shriveling brains. I'm just here because this song sound nice.
Nope, I was looking into the song remixes (the ones where UA-cam strings all the songs together) and it got my interest. Not many songs can do that to me nowadays.
Motkoo Dikfuk same (i dont even know most pop singers) all i listen to is songs by melanie martinez the peirces -secret and this song of and rock :) my cousin get confused
This song reminds me of a kid who I kinda thought as a friend (not anymore) He was always stereotypical of people. I first noticed this around 6th grade I was telling him my favorite shows at the time. I mentioned that I loved the shows on disney XD. He looked at me weird and said "girls are suppose to watch disney channel cause all the girly stuff was on there" I told him something along the lines of "It doesnt matter what you watch and sure there are some stuff that are targeted to a specific gender but that doesnt mean that other genders cant like it. I'll just say he wasn't really happy with my response, but one thing lead to another and were not friends anymore. Iam kinda glad that were not friends cause later through the school year I found out that he was lgbtq+ phobic and that would be a problem(cause Iam non-binary but I use masculine pronouns)
To all y'all who are all "he's just a male Melanie" this song came out a year before dollhouse and Ben J was only 15 when he wrote this. The boy is hella...

"living up to gender roles.. don't you think it's funny, how they tell us how to live"
This song stole my heart.
Just to be sure, It is talking about transexualism, right?
Er, what is that?
It really applies to any issue regarding gender and its roles
+Prince-Oliver transsexualism? Being trans means that you feel uncomfortable in the body you were born in, or rather, the sex you were born in. So, a girl is born, and she feels uncomfortable in her body as a female, and wants to be a boy.
Most of the cases, it causes people like that to be looked upon negatively, they get bullied, called names and MOST often "gay" (because they dress up as the opposite sex, and for some reason that is "gay" for them), etc. so they get gender disphoria. Basically, they're depressed about their gender.
Prince Benjamin Ah ok. I am transgender myself, but didnt know what that word meant! Silly me :P Thank you!
Prince-Oliver It's okay :)
Twin Cities Yep. Pretty much Anaconda in a nutshell
Lol. Agreed. I dunno why nobody likes real steel anymore... but i don't want to start a big conversation/fight about that.
Twin Cities I agree.
Lets end this here... i do not want to spam the comments.
As a trans kid i relate to this song so much...I'm ftm and there's a lot of judgement about how i don't fit the man gender roles and i always have to worry about what I'm doing and how i do it.
Eyy, fellow ftm! (My username is bc my gmail still has to be that :/ my name is Max)

My uncle wants me to dress like a girl 😂 which happens sometimes
My dad bought us an Xbox, it sat in the box for over a year before we even opened it XD my brother and step mum had time to fully move out before we opened it XD
Then they call u s Tom boy or like a boy but your a girl your like a girl since when are things for boys. Does that x box say for boys only 😂
Yeah cause I want short hair, like a boys cut but my mom says no your a girl like um my body mom
Oh so you're a girl? Explain why your username is a boy's name?
Thanks for the lyrics, I used to think it was "we fail calculus just to get by"
This song belongs on the radio instead of the crud that's currently on the radio. This song has meaning and is my favorite!
True.
Honestly, this song means so much to me. It's not about breaking up with your boyfriend, it's about stereotypes and gender roles. Things like that are worse than your stupid boyfriend. Every time I'm somewhere I can request a song, I request this. It's amazing and I think Ben needs to make more music.

I AGREE
IT'S NOT ABOUT BREAK UPS OR BIG BUTTS, DRUGS, ETC
IT HAS REAL MEANING!!
I am a girl
I like soccer, reading, drawing, hiking, I don't like being careful (Covered in scars :P), I HATE dressing up, I LOVE Fishing, camping, hunting, I love shooting bow and arrows.
I hate stereotypes and how people get judged for being who they want to be.
I don't like acting 'like a lady'. I love video games and doing 'guy things'
People need to learn to respect that and leave people be.
Love this song.
Today is the first time that I've heard this and I have it on loop

this hits me extremely hard because I have a hard time identifying if I'm female or male. Like, some days I'll wear a dress and my hair will be straightened and such. Other days I'll want my hair to be short and want a Chest binder, I'll even snatch some of my bro's clothes and wear them.
This song just speaks to me
CancerianEnvy 6969 THANK YOU SOMEONE KNOWS
I used to think this song was about conformity but afte4 coming out as agender I realized: It's about struggling with gender identity in a world where cisgender is normal.
*after
+Trick Graell i think it's just about gender rolls being too tough on people. i guess you could relate it to transgenderism, but i see it as more of an overall gender roll issue than about struggling with one's identity.

"Into living up to gender roles and having absent minds." I quote because gender roles is not a great thing. Feminine or not, boys can have girl stuff. And in the original video it shows a girl opening a book. If I wasn't allowed to open a book, I would seriously just open a book.

"Put on false confidence just to feel alive"
As a ftm trans person, I relate heavily to this.

When I first heard this song (there wasn't any lyrics), I was like, "I need to see the lyrics."
And it is official.
I don’t compare them I’m just saying their both amazing! And yes I do agree.
This has a true meaning and it's a great song
seriously this song throws out an important message.. kids now days need to listen to this and realize the world isn't about gender roles.
I mean yes we are all raised differently, but kids now days and even older people needs to learn that you dont have to be a boy to wear this or be a girl to do this..
we are human.. we have skin.. we have minds, and we have hearts.. we can use them in the way we like to.. (:
~ sorry if this offended anyone, I was using common since and thinking about life now days (:~

I'm ftm and I wear skirts but I often get told I'm faking being trans bc 'skirts are for girls' and this song is saying that it's pure BS
That's what I think anyway, sorry for the essay 😅
Hannah Travis I know, I’m just making sure they know what the singer meant for the song. They are allowed to view it other ways.
This is the song that sent me on my journey. I’m still travelling, I’m not sure when I’ll reach my destination. It’s nice discovering yourself, there’s always the downs. But there’s always ups too.
And having friends help you always makes the journey more fun and better for all of us✌🏻
💖🥰th- thank you! Sending love right back nice hooman I hope you are happy :)
I hope your dad stops being close minded some day and realizes that those people exist in the world.

Here are the Lyrics in text form:
*Little Game - Benny*
Play us like pawns and relentlessly confine,
Into living up to gender roles and having absent minds
Don't you think it's funny how they tell us how to live?
Don't you think it's funny how we're all delinquent kids?
Like, hush now, don't say, don't say
Hush boy, oh hush boy, don't say a word
Throw on a jersey and no one gets hurt
Hush girl, oh hush girl, just bat your eyes
Play our little game, play our little game
Bounded all thoughts and corrected common sense
You're raising suicidals with your predetermined titles
Like "a mess, distressed, I am unimpressed, you're excess
A dress is all you'll ever be."
Gender roles impose control and deceive progressive times
Welcome to the land of the broken minds
Hush boy, oh hush boy, don't say a word
Throw on a jersey and no one gets hurt
Hush girl, oh hush girl, just bat your eyes
Play our little game, play our little game [2x]
We feign opulence just to get by
Put on false confidence just to feel alive
They can't hurt me anymore
There's nothing left to break of me
There's nothing left to take from me
'Cause, baby, it's easy to fake a smile
When you've been doing it for a while
Baby, it's easy to fake a smile
When you've been doing it for a while
Hush boy, oh hush boy, don't say a word
Throw on a jersey and no one gets hurt
Hush girl, oh hush girl, just bat your eyes
Play our little game, play our little game [2x]
Hush boy, oh hush boy
------
Hush girl, oh hush girl

Play... Play, Play... Play... Play, Play... Play?
Play our little game
Play our little game
Play our little game

This song is like one of the songs I obsess with and then forget about and then go back to obsessing over along with literally any fnaf song in existence
I did come here from a video about Mangle, but not because I think it fits 'em. I came here because I related to the part of the song used in it, so I wanted to hear the rest. And, I fully relate to it. I'm female in real life, but I want to be a boy, but society looks down on people like me. We're forced to be in these roles, but we wanna break out, and not act how our genders are seen. Be who we truly are inside.
I just wanna say, your NOT female in real life your male but others want you to be female
What the hell is the mangle video?
I remember when this came out. I miss this time of my life..
I love that this song isn't about sex or romance, like other songs are about. This one actually has a really good meaning, and it sounds amazing too.

If Benny wrote this at the age of 15, then, it's clear he was destined to be a singer
This summarizes my life so well I literally cried (w/ joy) thank you so much 💗
Dollhouse: Places places get in your places throw on your dress and put on your doll faces
Little Game: Hush boy, oh, hush boy Dont say a word. Throw on a jersey and no one get hurt.

Now I'm basically an adult for two years
Accepting being comfortable with being born female, yet I still need to find myself whilst realising how gender roles as a whole are absolute bullcrap which resulted in me wearing whatever the hell I want, not caring if it's for men or women
Still unsure if the fact that my father attempted to raise me male when I was a toddler while later being raised a girl by my mother who still allowed me to do what i wanted played a part in this development
