MOLTO BRAVI.BIGHIN GIULIO RENZO BIGHIN GIULIO RENZO

BALLET: Created by the Italians, Embraced by the French, Perfected by the Russians. Pushed forward by Balanchine and Tallchief. Lovely dancer.

Great Video and narration Maria Tallchief though I never had the privilege of meeting Maria she was family. My Mom had always said that as a child how talented Maria was and of their visits they had as children. My Grandfather was Alex Tallchief's Nephew Enoch 'Roy' Tallchief again thank you for the video it was very informative.

Thank you for this. I really enjoyed it! I learned many new things about Maria Tallchief. Unfortunately colour is still a barrier in ballet. I believe a day will come when that will change. I have hope. It must change, because it is wrong.
Maria Tallchief was a trailblazer and a fantastic dancer. Thank you for this very enjoyable presentation.

Great job young lady!! Ignore the critics just as Maria Tallcheif chose to do. Thank you for using such an accomplished, talented, brillant, worthy subject for your presentation. My grandmother was Native American and I really enjoyed learning about Maria Tallchief. Success as a classical ballerina for people of color is still an uphill climb. I just read a biography by Misty Copeland, a renowned ballerina who in 2015 is still dealing with this issue. Your presentation has prompted me to seek out and read Maria Tallcheif s biography.
    Bravo!!!

Young lady, I think you did a wonderful job on this presentation. You should be very proud of yourself and ignore the haters below my comment as they mean nothing to you or your work. I enjoyed it and it was most informative. As a Native American myself I am very proud to know that this woman paved the way for others to follow, (others as in non-white) Keep up the good work and know that you did an awesome job here. Thank you for our hard work.

I stumbled upon this video while looking for Maria Tallchief and saw this comment. In what world are we living where a correction or some critics is labeled as hatred and the people- haters? How are we supposed to progress and become better if other people don't show us where we made errors? It is even more true in the world of ballet where correction is the only way of progressing and becoming a ballerina. The young people who made this video made errors, and it is important to point them out- this way they will know (and other reading here) better. It doesn't mean their hard work is not respected, it doesn't mean someone hates them. When I am/was corrected on my pronunciation, whether on my native language or French (my second language) or English, I always took note and tried to address the problem in order to become better.
I have a serious question on race within the ballet world that I will post in another comment.

So, concerning race and ballet.. I have a serious question. If Ms Tallchief wasn't biracial, with very "white" features (actually, she looks like a Slav.. a South Slav), do you all think she would have been as famous as she was? It is a serious question and I would be happy to have some serious thoughts on this.
Actually, seeing the number of Asian ballet dancers, and the speed they "invaded" (in a positive sense) the ballet world, one can only think that race is a problem mainly when it concerns black (and more specifically black female) dancers.
I would be happy if I have some serious thoughts on the subject.

***** Very good question. I don't really know how to answer that because one only needs to look back into our history to really find the answers to this. Non-white minorities have always had to work harder to make their name in so many fields. Dancers, doctors, scientists and the list goes on. In the US these stories are everywhere. It always made me wonder too because the US is the largest melting pot in the world yet it is also one of the biggest "racist" countries. I think that Maria worked very very hard to get to where she was, and I think that she worked harder than most because she was Native American. I think that because she was one of the most beautiful dancers to ever grace the stage finally over powered the fact that she was NA. This is just my thoughts about the subject so ask me for facts and evidence, most of the answers are in the video. :)

I loved your presentation! From the heart. I remember taking a book out on Maria when I was in grade school. I never heard of her, however my love for ballet must have directed me to her in some weird way. I have always loved her drive, dedication, and, ofcourse, her talent!

To properly honor this prima ballerina's memory, Maria Tallchief was born Elizabeth Marie "Betty" Tall Chief. At age 17, she moved to New York City in search of a spot with a major ballet company, and, at the urging of her superiors, took the name Maria Tallchief.

So many mistakes here. Corps de ballet is pronounced "core", not "corp". The Hollywood bowl is an outdoor amphitheater, not "indoor"... and so many more. But I'm glad you have taken an interest in my former ballet teacher at The Chicago City Ballet. She was a magnificent dancer and a great inspiration.

She was probably amazing at her time. But she's really bad in today's terms. She's got an awful technique. I think most ballerinas with few years of training can accomplish a lot more that what she did.
