Later in the seasons they dumbed him down as if he was the male versioning Brittany. I think after Finn died, they tried to make Sams character more like Finn by taking over the glee club, making him the leader and dumbing him down since his character was most similar to Finns.
He can still be kind chill, and dorky/nerdy. He was always like that. Sams never been portrayed as dumb, but doesn’t pick up on things other people would pick up on, and that’s always been a part of his character. Did they make that a bigger part, yeah. But they never dumbed him down in my opinion.

I think everyone thinks Brittany is WAY to sweet, but she was actually not that nice. She said more mean things once you think about it. People just think she's sweet cuz shes all innocent and childlike. But that doesn't automatically make you a nice person.
