I just fill my 3 L bladder with ice cubes just before I leave the house for a day hike. At my normal rate of water use, the cubes are gone and the water is still enjoyably cool by the end of the hike.
BrainExploder na i like it. i feel like your talking to us as if we were in your own home. i take it more seriously lol. i like it. plus we all hate mornings
I agree with Chuck, no "HEY guys!! What's up!!! It's brainexploader here!! Back again with some new stuff!!!" It feels natural and a lot easier to listen to. That's one of the reasons I kept watching your videos at the start.
This is awesome, I used to just let the whole thing freeze and It would get mostly melted on the way to the field. I think if you combine this trick with the Condor Oasis carrier it'll last even longer.
I fill to the brim with cubes and top off with water. Ice cold all day long and keeps your back cool as well. Always done this with a camelbak hawg and never had condensation issues
@@ragetobe Not cold, Unless you take it out. And rest you back on it.... But the closer it is too your back. The cooler your body stays. I just end up soaking a towel with the cold water. Then wash my face and arms..and leave the towel around my neck...
I do the same thing differently. Rather than freezing bladder itself, I prefer to freeze a few PET bottles of water, then cut the bottle in half and dump ice into the bladder. That allows to have cool water in case refill is required. Neoprene cover for bladder helps to keep the water cool, too.
We did that in Afghanistan; we'd raid the freezers on the FOBs that had such things because they usually had some bottles frozen for guys. IIRC one or two frozen bottles would pretty much last all night. Nowadays if I'm just out for a day hike ice cubes suffice
I prefer the taste of rubber and hot water that absorbs into my system faster. Jokes aside this is actually a really nice idea for areas that are really hot and the cold water can help keep your core temperature down, especially when wearing heavy gear,
tip from a winter runner (which is also applicable to summer as insulation insulates from both head and cold): i like to keep my hydration bladder in my backpack and my straw exposed over my shoulder where its comfortable and easy to drink while running long distance in very cold weather. i took an old scarf (rabbit hair) and several zipties and wrapped the straw giving it lots of extra warm insulation. that stays on all winter. then i took a couple vests (rabbit hair) and a few zipties and i wrap the bladder like a xmas present every time i use it. i take those off after every run so i can clean and refill the bladder and let the vests dry (sweat). it only takes a few minutes and works very well. if necessary you could heat the water to 110 or 120 before filling the bladder or cool it to 40 or 50. bonus tip: clean new bladders with vinegar to get rid of the weird plastic taste. within a couple weeks the taste was gone
That's cute, but did you know, they used to chop ice from ice caves in Central Europe? They transported the big piles of ice all the way to Trieste / Trst and put em on sailing vessels to cool vegetables and fruit. The ice on ships would last all the way to Egypt, where sometimes they would sell it to make ice cream. The ice-cave ice is much more lasting than the sheets we have today in freezers/nature.
I was paranoid about leaving the hose attached while it's in the freezer. So, after filling half with water and half with air. I took the hose off. Is that ok?
This is exactly what you don't want to do. By inflating the bladder you're pushing it to the limit so when it's frozen there's no way for it to expand and it could burst open. Letting the air out will give it room to expand. Don't worry about the outlet because even if it freezes it will be free by the time you get to drinking the water.
Just found this video and perfect timing as I'm about to partake in my first full on milsim! Here we get about +30c and it's semi desert so great video and very helpful 👍👍
This video is 7 years old. How is this bladder holding up? I heard that bladders in general are susceptible to bursting. Also, how does the water taste from this bladder? is it "plasticy" or normal?
i saw this product where its basically an ballistic plate shaped ice pack you freeze then you put it in between you and your pc. it also doubles as a hydro carrier
how about making enough ice cubes to fill hydration pack to max level and the pour in cold water, ice cubes will keep the water e en colder and its easier way to make
Tried this a few months ago, however the vest I was using only had an internal mesh hydration pouch. Let's just say the moisture that builds up on the outside of the bladder isn't too pleasant.
Also you can try to add 2 or 3 frozen pure lemon juice cubes to give a little bit of flavor besides of vitamin C and at the same time you desinfect your bladder. Refrain of tequila, sugar and a little bit of salt 🤪
I use the LBX hydration pouch. It's got this cool thermal lining that keeps/retains temperature all day, I just pour in cold water and then I'm good for the whole day. But I do like this idea
if I am going to be outside all day and more so just want the ice to keep me cold, would you ever freeze this thing close to 3/4 full or would that be a bad practice. thank you!
Yeah depending what on how long you need it frozen and how hot it is outside the more of the water you would freeze. Just don’t forget to leave the hose opening clear so you can start drinking as it melts otherwise the hose will be plugged.
do you plan on airsofting thanksgiving weekend? like this coming saturday at freedom/jericho/jungle island? whatever you wanna call it. curious. cause me and my friends will be out there that day and it would be a pleasant surprise if you happened to go there too!
the only Con to all this ideas, it's that everybody wants to drink from your bladder... yesterday I run out of water for the first time in all my years of airsofting :P
Lol I did this once. Lol 😂 but mine cut itself when the water melted because I didn’t blow air into it. So. At your own rust iguess 😂🤣 lol I didn’t like my water bladder anyway so. It kinda worked out for me either way. I always share water with my friends whenever they want some but I only have one hose lol 😂 but I’m looking into buying tonight a Mazuma dual hydration bladder 3L lol 😂 that way there’s a hose for me and a hose for whoever needs water lol 😂
Why make the extra work instead you have one giant ice cube that you just make in the bladder and then you pour water over it so it slowly melts over the day and keeps everything frosty.
It's not better to have it lukewarm in the summer if you're going to pass out from heat exhaustion. Cold water is a necessity. And it's true that cold water does cause your body to use more energy to warm itself back up, but it only uses approximately 10 calories to warm your body up, an equivalent to walking a minute or two, so drinking cold water will not drain your energy anywhere near significant enough to tire you.
DumplingDragon yes but it takes time for that water to warm up before it's moved through your body. room temp water hydrates you significantly faster. so it's actually better to drink on really hot days for hydration purposes
this is 100% BS. If your body it constantly sweating to keep it self cold than it using alot of energy trying to keep cold, drinking cold water will cool you off(which is good to keep your body cool and not heatstroking) and will make your body use less energy. oh yeah and dumpling dragon is right, it will only take like 10 calories. YOUR BODY DOESNT NEED TO HEAT UP WATER TO USE IT WHEN HOT.
I just fill my 3 L bladder with ice cubes just before I leave the house for a day hike. At my normal rate of water use, the cubes are gone and the water is still enjoyably cool by the end of the hike.
I do the exact same.
yeah i saw this and thought "dude just pour some ice cubes in there" that way you won't use a ton of space in the freezer
exploder keeps it real. no fake smiles and bs charisma. he acts just like he would anyday off camera lol.
+Chuck Jones yeah sorry for the lack of enthusiasm I just woke up to go softin and I hate mornings with a passion
BrainExploder na i like it. i feel like your talking to us as if we were in your own home. i take it more seriously lol. i like it. plus we all hate mornings
+Chuck Jones thanks man
I agree with Chuck, no "HEY guys!! What's up!!! It's brainexploader here!! Back again with some new stuff!!!" It feels natural and a lot easier to listen to. That's one of the reasons I kept watching your videos at the start.
BrainExploder see comrade exploder, i am not the only 1 who likes this approach you have. it makes you different
Honestly I've taken to using those giant ice cubes intended for whiskey glasses and a insulation sleeve and tube
This is awesome, I used to just let the whole thing freeze and It would get mostly melted on the way to the field. I think if you combine this trick with the Condor Oasis carrier it'll last even longer.
i have also take my water bladder and put a frozen waterbottle in it and then filled it up with water, its like a giant ice cube
I fill to the brim with cubes and top off with water. Ice cold all day long and keeps your back cool as well. Always done this with a camelbak hawg and never had condensation issues
Does this make your back cold?
@@ragetobe Not cold, Unless you take it out. And rest you back on it.... But the closer it is too your back. The cooler your body stays. I just end up soaking a towel with the cold water. Then wash my face and arms..and leave the towel around my neck...

great idea, also seen someone put ice packs in there plate carrier to help keep them cool.
Brian hitting a bladder bong :p
+Mr.Nibbles hahaha

No issues.. I even beat the thing on the concrete to break the ice up..10 years still works fine...
Thank you for putting this idea out there.
Freeze it and wrap w aluminum... Going dual sporting tomorrow btw.... But yeah I'll let u guys know of the aluminum thing works... It should
So how did that work out. Did it stay cool for long periods of time. I work in a warehouse and trying to keep my bag cooler longer
This is exactly what you don't want to do.

Awesome.
The orange tips are the best please keep doing them. Thanks
+Mason Cagle thanks I try to knock em out as I think of stuff that can be useful for most airsofters
+BrainExploder yeah I always like them especially the ones about tech work on guns.
nice - hey what kind of large bag was that in the bag of your car?
This video is 7 years old. How is this bladder holding up? I heard that bladders in general are susceptible to bursting.
Also, how does the water taste from this bladder? is it "plasticy" or normal?
Haven't used in forever but back in the day it tasted just fine, its a cheap item to replace tho and probably not a bad idea.
i saw this product where its basically an ballistic plate shaped ice pack you freeze
then you put it in between you and your pc. it also doubles as a hydro carrier
So the more you drink the less protection you have?
BrainExploder lolz
but it sits behind the plate carrier
and you carry a few of these so you can just replace it
how about making enough ice cubes to fill hydration pack to max level and the pour in cold water, ice cubes will keep the water e en colder and its easier way to make
*what happens when you fill it with slushie?*
Deliciousness
Do i have to clean it?
Good idea. Thank you for sharing !

Sound "refreshing".

With the current weather in New York, there's no issue keeping water cold. o.O
It's always sunny in CA so this a year round tip here.
This is the first time in a long time I'm jealous of California.
I use the LBX hydration pouch. It's got this cool thermal lining that keeps/retains temperature all day, I just pour in cold water and then I'm good for the whole day. But I do like this idea
doctoroctogonapus8 is it silver inside like the fabric lunch packs you can buy at Walmart?
Codename Hannibal yeah!! Couldn't find the proper comparison. But yeah it's got that silver lining insulator!
Codename Hannibal and for about 30 bucks, it's amazing
doctoroctogonapus8 ohh cool I've seen bladder carrier's like that non LBX versions
if I am going to be outside all day and more so just want the ice to keep me cold, would you ever freeze this thing close to 3/4 full or would that be a bad practice. thank you!
Yeah depending what on how long you need it frozen and how hot it is outside the more of the water you would freeze. Just don’t forget to leave the hose opening clear so you can start drinking as it melts otherwise the hose will be plugged.
I am going to use distilled water in mine. Like the frozen water tip.
Isn't water gonna condense on the surface of the hydration bladder, soaking the inside of your hydration pouch
Don't you get the bag wet with condensation like this?
Yeah makes it nice and frosty on your back.
do you plan on airsofting thanksgiving weekend? like this coming saturday at freedom/jericho/jungle island? whatever you wanna call it.
curious. cause me and my friends will be out there that day and it would be a pleasant surprise if you happened to go there too!
I see the thanksgiving turkey! I got the same one bro! Maybe you can show us how the brain exploder rigs up a turkey??
Lol you spotted me turkey. My wife is going to handle that I am in charge of eating it that's about the extent of my Thanksgiving contributions.
INSTANT thumbs up for the liberty t-shirt 👍🗽
I do the same thing with my canteen.
what hydration pouch do you use? I've been looking for one myself.
get a Camelbak. I love mine! holds 3.0L and has a very thin profile.
+Ant I put links in the description
Thank you both
Nice video, but what is a Leppo?
+Abel Babel "a Leppo"
Two fake libertarians, and dumb at that.
Good idea
Really cool trick! Useful for a lot more than airsoft too.
True true, thanks.
dude good idea
Thanks :)
I do this with my Nalgene bottle for work 👍
It´s a nice idea. I use cold packs between the bladder and the backpack... cold water all day long
Wardog Airsoftarg True, additional weight though.
I only use 2 and they are pretty small... so I don't tell the difference
Wardog Airsoftarg Nice. Additional use, too, if someone twists an ankle and needs a cold pack or something.
Cool idea. I didn't thought in that
the only Con to all this ideas, it's that everybody wants to drink from your bladder... yesterday I run out of water for the first time in all my years of airsofting :P
love the johnsonweld shirt!!!!!!
как держать воду в холоде? в ноябре? да у нас - 35 градусов 19 ноября было

Nice shirt!
Nice shirt
What is Aleppo?
Rightfully so
Came here looking for ways to keep my water cold on a 3 week hike. Yeah nope sure lemme put it in the freezer some where in the wild!
You can't just put ice cubes in it??
Why make the extra work instead you have one giant ice cube that you just make in the bladder and then you pour water over it so it slowly melts over the day and keeps everything frosty.
I'd see yanking the bladder out of its carrier as more work than simply loading up the bladder with cubes... to each their own....
Will THE CAP FREEZE UP OVER NIGHT, IF LEFT
Keep it kinda of loose
Bush did it.
Don’t listen. Those flavor additives will guck up your system.
👏👏👏🍻
Like for the "no problemo" xD
Lol almost cut that out.
Well... As a spaniard and a Terminator fan I liked it :D

Please tell me you are wearing the Johnson shirt ironically
Well I obviously don't expect him to win at this point but would have been a nice step up from the two choices we had prior and the one we got now.
no step on snek
Don’t leave your fridge open like that...
Please explain why, I need a good laugh.
im finna be early on the comments 😀
