Yep. I was wondering about all those black marks on the ceilings and walls. Then I remembered watching another YT video of this place where they said something about Zombieland 2 was filmed there. It's a shame that this mall no longer exists.
So fun fact, I grew up in this mall. I played with my middle school band here for christmas, often went to the arcade, and I'm now in college. I still regularly go to the AMC in this place, but I think it shut down, I don't know lol. Anyways, thank you for sharing such a cool piece of DeKalb history!
@@lucassmusicofficial Not a problem at all, I thought this place was amazing. It is definitely demolished now, but from what I remember they may be keeping the AMC in the new development.
Omg..so sad to see this! Was one of my favorite malls many years ago. Our family always went to the AMC theater, Burlington, Ross and Marshall's stores. Covid did a number on many businesses...people stop buying and going out and that pattern has continued. People buy online or just don't shop as much anymore. I'm so naive...but why would people who have nothing better else to do with their lives destroy and burn property that doesn't belong to them. Thanks for the video guys!
Yeah, it seems malls are going down, one by one. It's sad, as I grew up hanging out in malls, myself. Still, it does give me a chance to explore just like I did in this video, but hey, it's what we do.
What a fascinating array of states of decay in that place. The concourse looks like it has been abandoned and neglected for over a decade, and some of the stores are in good enough shape to where I would have assumed the place had just closed. I've seen power on in better-maintained buildings before, but given the extent of decay throughout so much of the building I can't believe it was left on.
This reminds me of when I was a kid sitting in waiting rooms starting at the yellow stained walls for hours with what felt like no one around but silence. Places like this are so peaceful
Thank you for clearing that up. I looked it up after you mentioned it and found a pic. After comparing the two, it really is a Bath and Body Works. That's really neat.
There was an arcade called Challenges across from Apple Bee's. This was back in the day when Apple Bee's wasn't there. The arcade went out of business sometime in the 2010's and was converted into a comic book store, but they retained the name "Challenges", I think.
I'd also like to point out that Zombieland 2 was partially filmed here, along with other things.

The security scooter reminds me of mall cop!! Cool video, 10/10 will watch again

Abandoned places always give me the creeps, I'll never understand how you do this. Awesome tho!

This is the type of stuff I live for honestly, if you couldn’t tell. Still, sounds like you actually ended up the Backrooms, no joke.
Damn that was fantastic, great look into a piece of history.
I love abandoned malls dude, so cool
Also, don't stress the sounds of sirens too much; if the police were coming to the mall specifically for you, they'd pull up silently.
16:49 that was Bath and Body Works

Yes it was. I worked at that Bath & Body Works in the early 2000's.
The “salon” was bath and body works. Lol
That would have been more creepy - if the music was still playing.
Do a video of an abandoned Great Northern Mall in Syracuse NY
fun fact: cobra kai season 2 mall fight was filmed there in the food court
That’s what I was forgetting, that’s also a super cool detail.
10/10
Cool video
Life After People
Any slight noise, and I'd likely piss myself. Not sure how you do it sometimes
Reminds me of the part in The Last of Us when the two girls go to the abandoned mall... was there an arcade there? 😅
Unless it was hidden away where we didn’t see it, I didn’t see an arcade section.

@@riflemann14 An arcade would have been amazing to see in this place, I definitely wish it had stuck around.
