My heart was broken!!!! She was FIT, the grand slam winning dress and everything was aligned perfectly and all of a sudden Kerber spoiled the party.
@@TheeLight111 Serena wasn't tested plus she had that long break after that US Open heartbreak Kerber had nothing to lose she did it the hard way.

She played so well in the matches before the finals. She showed what an all court game had in the 2nd round and semi finals. Azarenka was also playing excellent tennis this tournament, and most analysts felt she was the biggest threat to Serena. Some even felt she was the favorite. Only for Kerber to beat them both. I admit Kerber was amazing in the finals, but Serena's net game was atrocious in this match. Her serve wasn't also as dominant as the 2015 finals or 2016 Wimbledon finals. This was a bitter pill to swallow. Serena's mental toughness declined after 2015 us open. But overall she produced incredible tennis. She hit winners easily than any woman in the history of tennis.
The final was such a weird match from Serena. She was obviously very nervous, but instead of her arm/feet locking up, her brain locked up.
She didn't make any adjustments in the match and let's be honest Kerber defense was frustrating Serena 😂
@@malcolmnorman5694 Kerber's defense shouldn't bother Serena, because Serena had hit straight through it many times before. She was just too nervous to think.

Serena did not drop a set in this tournament till she got to the finals. Along the way she beat highly ranked players ,the likes of Sharapova , Radwanska and she did so emphatically . The way she thrashed Daria Kastakina in one of the rounds ,one would not hve imagined that in less than 2 years that girl would be a top 10 player . The final was disapointing coz at that point Serena had a lopsided head to head against Kerber. Serena was a monster in this 2016 Australian open but it is one that she would want to forget because it ended in her first and ONLY ever loss in an AO final.

Serena execution was terrible in the final. Still, we've seen her eek out those kind of matches. Credit to Kerber for sealing the deal

The nerves started messing up with her so bad when she knew there was history on the line . I was confident when she took the second set that she was going to win coz before that loss she had never lost a 3 set final at a grand slam , she either won them all or lost in straight sets till 2016.
Serena's brain locked up during that final. She played well in every match until that one. But she couldn't anticipate at all in the final.

Volleying was her weakness, and Kerber kept giving Serena the same play like Serena was making me mad in that match no adjustments after that second set and Kerber defense was off the charts Serena did get her back at Wimbledon.
Serena saw the ghost of Sharapova 💀
These women had virtually no power. Bring back the Lindsays, Justines, Jennifers, Monicas, etc.
