    Lucas an update to our prior conversation about the Floyd Rose. I Installed a hipshot tremsetter and it totally does the trick! It was a PITA to instal on my personal guitar. Needed a good bit of dremel work. But it solves the double stop problem and allows me to tune to dropped D with the fine tuners and the other strings don't go sharp. The trem is a little stiffer but still totally usable. I can recommend it for the next segment if you don't already have a solution.

    Thanks for the walk through! The studio is looking a lot less like a pawn shop! Nice one. Now just rotate the guitars so we can keep seeing the collection. GAS may not have a cure, but it can be eased by living vicariously through other collections. Happy Labour Day weekend.

    Cool bro. It's funny how different a couple of chrome covers & different knobs can make a guitar look. Personally, I like Tele knobs..I think they are very hard to beat. And while I generally like chrome covered pups better, and I quite like your sigs... ultimately I prefer the open coil look on a Charvel.
    But it's the sound and whether that's what you're after or not.
    PS. While I love the Strat body exactly as Fender does them and not with hardened, sharper edges like so many superstrats insist on, I can't deal with the steel, block heels! When Ibanez do stunning sculpted heels, Jackson do neck-thru's..even Charvel are doing fantastic 'shredders heels' on their dinky line.. It's super frustrating that not one company is doing both: the soft curved of the Fender Strat body with a sculpted heel joint. Right?! It's not asking for sonething that is remotely difficult anymore.
    Charvel is the one to do it, no one else will. Unless...if they don't hurry up Fender will end up beating them to the punch!

    • @eddiejr540
      @eddiejr540 3 роки тому

      Not sure...but I think some of the high end strats have a slightly sculpted heel joint...the “ultras” or performer or what-not...can’t remember the names off the top of my head

      Fender owns Charvel anyway, so they don't really compete. Fender is a very big, slow moving entity. Don't expect "radical" changes, like ergonomics, anytime soon lol

      @Luey Sixty-six I've got a Yamaha SE603 that has a pretty nice neck heel. It's soft and curvy for the body and headstock too. You can see the guitar (but not the neck joint) here ua-cam.com/video/6BZtUACZupY/v-deo.html
      At some point, I'll do a review video of the guitar and then I'll make sure to cover the neck joint too. In a nutshell though, it's awesome and is actually one of the cheapest guitars I've ever bought. I've never liked the look of pointy guitars either.

    6 position switch is very cool, and the pickups sound great. A bit of a bummer that the original location for the switch is so close to the volume knob. The controls are a bit crowded now with that switch moving 4 directions. I will take switches over push/pull any day, especially when it's so inconspicuous as that 6 position switch. On to the Floyd upgrades!

    Hey Lucas, dig your work, I haven't built it yet ahaha but I've got a diagram for wiring a freeway toggle, which has a push pull for split 4-6 inners or outers!
    and a few other things involving a middle pickup and phase

    Not a Floyd Rose guy, but you seem to have that good look'in guitar set-up just right! It doesn't look like it's fighting you, and it sounds great thru my head phones, so I'm sure it sounds great in person. Looking forward to the next installment.

    Bummer about all the trouble but glad to see the project is moving along. The new pickups look and sound fantastic.
    Quick question for you... when you clipped the wires from the pickups, wouldn't it have been better to desolder instead? I'm just thinking you're going to sell them or put them into something else, no? Won't they be too short now?

    So check this out~ I screwed my claw screws deeper into body (towards the neck pickup) cuz I needed more spring tension and now the single coil neck position doesent work...I have a feeling one of the two claw screws either went thru a wire coming off of pickup enroute to cavity OR the screw went thru the coil windings ruining the pickup. Either way over gotta pull the guitar apart now and investigate...not very excited 😅 iDO need to fix it cuz it's my "versatile" guitar for lots of pop/rock type stuff...cheers

    The problem with low output pickups is that they are bright open sounding pickups and the guitar is already very bright. Also the upper midrange is harsh due to the floyd and they don't pair that well.

  • @ErebosGR

    What is the benefit of a 6-way switch instead of a coil split switch (or push-pull pot)? Less wiring? Or just a matter of preference?

    • @LucasFowler
      @LucasFowler  3 роки тому +1

      There is less wiring, but the advantage for me is personal preference, I don't really like push-pull pots. I have trouble getting them to pull up like half the time.

    • @ErebosGR
      @ErebosGR 3 роки тому

      @@LucasFowler That makes sense. For me, it depends on the style of the knobs. Tele-style knobs are easier to grab and pull. Strat, Gibson and PRS-style knobs are more slippery.

  • @ClaySmith
    @ClaySmith 3 роки тому

    I noticed that your signature set of pups are way lower output than what was in there.
    What do you like about your signature's output range?

    • @LucasFowler
      @LucasFowler  3 роки тому +1

      I've tried really low output pickups and mega high output pickups, and everything in between. I like hitting the front of the amp a little, and I want the split sounds to be good, so the pickups can't be *too* low output, but I think there is a point at which the pickup is so hot that it starts to compromise the preamp circuit of the amp and you lose any natural "woody" quality the guitar has. My pickups are a little more than PAF, but not nearly what I would call high output. Just enough to give me some punch and have good split sounds.

    Hace 2 semanas me compré ésta guitarra y Tu tienes mucha razón, efectivamente tiene los problemas que señalas en tu video de revisión profunda y sin sensura, el Floyd Rose es inestable (es el 1000), y lo peor es que el swith de selector de pickups tiene los vacíos de sonido al cambiar entre pickups, respecto de las pickups Seymour Duncan JB TB-4 y Seymour Duncan 59 SH-1N no podría decir si son inconfortables a mi paladar auditivo porque es primera vez que toco una guitarra con éstas pickups, también concuerdo contigo en el tema del pack de 6 sonido s, también preferiría solo 3 vías, con una opción both agregadas a las opciones bridge y neck clásicas, esto sólo se puede notar una vez que tienes la guitarra y comienzas a probarla, mo es muy motivante al oido las otras 4 opciones ofrecidas, solo bridge y neck.
    Es necesario hacer las correcciones al sistema eléctrico y el cambio de Floyd Rose por uno original alemán en lo posible, respecto al cambio de pickup's esto es opcional dependiendo del gusto personal y del dinero disponible.
    Yo agradezco tus videos sobre ésta guitarra porque ayudan a entender que no es que uno haya tenido mala suerte, éstas guitarras vienen con éstos detalles molestos de fábrica, es mala propaganda para Charvel y Fender porque no son guitarras que cuesten 400 o 500 dólares, la expectativa decae, no obstante que el mueble no esta mal, felicitaciones por tu canal, di like a los videos de ésta guitarra y suscribí Tu canal.

    I love modding and REALLY liked this video. Question though, why did you purchase a brand new charvel only to gut it? I think you could have ended with a way better end product with a charvel body from stratosphere and a warmoth neck. JMHO.

    • @LucasFowler
      @LucasFowler  3 роки тому +1

      Good question! I never intended to mod the guitar from the beginning. It was only as I started to notice things that were wrong or could be better that I decided to do a total overhaul. If you check out part 1 of this series as well as my demo video of the guitar, you can see me detail issues like tuning stability, frets and how the JB is just a bit too hot for me.

    • @SixString_J5
      @SixString_J5 3 роки тому

      @@LucasFowler Makes sense, I checked out both the previous vids as I'm interested in eventually getting a charvel.
      I personally hated every stabilizer I tried and the tremol-no was just bearable at best for me.
      I gotta say, I can't recommend enough to just develop the skill to double stop bend on a floating trem.
      The note you normally anchor has to do roughly a quarter bend and the whole step bend has to go one and a quarter. It's like any other skill on guitar. Get the target pitches in your ear and then practice simultaneously bending both strings to where you want them.
      Anyways, good luck! Love the content.

    • @LucasFowler

      @@SixString_J5 I just got a replacement tremolo unit called the Sofia 2:92 that has a built in stabilization option that I'm hoping will help with that without feeling too weird. Next video will detail that whole thing. Thanks!
