How I see it is we have to acknowledge the ego and make sure it doesn't take control. There is no light without darkness, we have to feel pain to feel happiness and learn lessons. I feel like the purpose of life is to balance with our surroundings and spirit, (yin yang) as we can't rid of all of our traits but we can get rid of the harmful ones from harming ourselves or others. The seeking of spiritual perfection can really be seen as egotistical because perfection doesn't necessarily exist
That is a nice way to see it. My teacher taught a method of seeing the ego as pet. That way, from a higher awareness of mindfulness, you can observe some of the habits and delusions of the ego from a space of compassion. The ego mind behaves automatically from the entrained attractor patterns or programs within its field of consciousness. One can purify the negative programs and karma of the mind, consciousness or spirit as one advances in awareness, but you are correct that it can also lead to inflating the ego if one does not first grasp the essence of the teachings and the Truth.... That ultimately, the ego has no inherent existence. 🤔🙏🌎 And that is actually quite wonderful. We are all more than that. Peace and love, and thank you for the excellent comment.

A function like the memory, like the analytical mind, like the intellect.The ego is a thought which crasps the different functions of the mind and says: I think, I feel, I analyse, I understand.

Everyone has an ego, and it is not of Love. The ego is also not evil, although it is behind all acts we would consider evil.
The ego is not a thing or an entity, it's just programming to take care of number one. This programming causes us to be self-servicing, self-centered, fearful, distrusting, defensive and aggressive.
The ego is a sense of self, not something real or true. A sense of self is nothing tangible, nothing that can't be fairly easily overlooked, if its lack of realness is pointed out.
The ego is programming that causes us to see life, ourselves and others through a particular lense; one tainted by fear, judgment, limitation, smallness and a sense of lack.
The egoic programming creates a sense of being under attack or threatened by others and by life. The ego is in fear much of the time, and therefore divorced from Love.
This fear is an illusion, an imagination of something fearful in the future; not based on an actual threat in the here and now.

'seek the truth' seems out of place here though. Seeking as volitional act most likely will lead to endless judgements in which ego plays the judge. ' The truth' relies entirely on it and becomes circumstancial.
Well said! Seeking Truth may also lead to the undoing of the ego, as one realizes it is a mere conceptual mental construct. 🙏😀

A person with no ego is an easy victim. Just have to be aware of your ego and not let it take ahold of your subconscious being or thoughts.

I see these new age people suffering from narcissism. We are human beings, the whole new age is about becoming more than human and god like. They are quiet egotistical to think that, as well. I see so much contradiction it is saddening.
"Do what thou wilt " is a satanic belief, This is very dangerous...and new age is basically satanism wrapped in a more attractive package.
Yes satanism is the worship of one self, not just a little red devil man.
If we are becoming more aware, woke, or enlightened through this new age stuff, why is the world in such chaos? Why do we seem to be going in the opposite direction?

The ego is the interface we use to interact with others. In essence, it is how we socialize.

Ego is the enemy
Yes indeed! But we can still feel compassion for this enemy, to undo it's self centeredness, and negativity through forgiveness, kindness, and acceptance. And utilize mindfulness, meditation, contemplation, and surrender to re-align the ego towards unconditional love, peace, salvation, and ultimately enlightenment. ❤😊🙏

I like that you talk about the ego but I don't like your lack of energy. It seems to me that you should follow God rather than just being spiritual.
Eloquent, but overly-expansive word-salad descriptions of psychological concepts that lack a concise definition frustrate me to no end.
