  • If you manage a senior horse, don't waste any money on expensive equine arthritis supplements until you watch this video. Arthritis supplements can be great, but if you're not managing your senior horse properly, you could be flushing money down the toilet. Ensuring your horse is as comfortable as possible with senior-friendly arthritis management should be your first step. Next, you can start looking into supplements, and even talking to your vet. Some horses may need extra help in the form of injections or NSAIDS.

Good points! Also, you totally nailed the feeling we get when we buy something for our horses that we think will help them. It’s so bizarre! :)

Good video. Many well known equine vets recommend MSM for horses with joint pain. It’s very inexpensive and profoundly effective in helping, esp older horses. I’ve personally been taking MSM with Vit C three times a day. After about a month ALL my foot and knee pain was gone - completely gone. My hair is thickening and growing quickly too. MSM could be a good option.

Thanks for sharing, I've heard good things about MSM. I will have to check it out!

i'm just now trying to research msm for my arthritic horse, my friend is giving her dog osteo bio flex with msm and the 150 pound rottie has done a complete turnaround! So i'm definitely looking at trying it.

We do our best. We have one field and day herd beats her up so she's in during the day but to be honest I think she needs her quiet time mentally and she's really out more than the day herd is.
Should I consider moving her to where she could be out all the time, probably but I don't trust everyone so it's a hard choice to make. I've met way too many starved horses coming from "trusted" people. I like our vet, we have 2 farrier choices and I like them both (yah know when the farriers get farriery and drop off the face of the earth)

If you only have one field, I would keep her separate. My old man appreciates his own space now too. Ideally, 24:7 turnout is the best, but also, we have to make do with what we have, and if she’s getting bullied or not able to eat her food bc of younger horses, I think they appreciate being give their own space and turnout time. Less stressful! Sounds like you are doing wonderful by her, and I’m sure she knows it!
