Truly a crime against shipbuilding and engineering. I think she would have been even more popular if they had kept her boilers and engines. And if she was more popular they would have more money to spend on upkeep. It would have been a win win for Long Beach. They would have a full and popular ship and enough tourism to keep her shipshape, but noooooooo, they had to tear out her heart and soul and then leave it a gaping hole.
@@oneworldgovernment9548 did you mean wtf no tf? I meant it’s not scrapped yet. If Long Beach doesn’t get its act together it may happen. They’ll either sell it or scrap it, I think.
You are so right this ship not a building she is a transatlantic ocean liner treat the beautiful ship as what she was built for. She is a engineering marvel for future world to see a Great Liner.
Biggest mistake by Long Beach to classify the ship as a building. The conversion was a big mistake and disaster. Now the Queen Mary has no watertight compartments or doors to protect the ship from completely sinking due to the rust and corrosion. By gutting four of the ships six engine rooms, it affected her stability; the bilge pumps do not work to prevent flooding. A group of well intention-ed people didn't know what the heck they were doing to this once regal and wonderful ocean liner. The Queen Mary should have been dry docked every few years to clean and repaint her hull. The ship should have been preserved as she was and kept up. Her four once mighty engine rooms which gave her the Hales trophy would have been a great attraction for tourists but were gutted to make way for attractions that were a dismal failure. Now we may lose our precious QM due to incompetence, poor planning and just plain greed by the people who operated her.
jgdforesthills1 If she were still classified as a ship she would not be allowed to have overnight accommodations without being brought up to current SOLAS ( Safety of life at sea) safety standards, and the cost of that would be astronomical. Her wooden decks and much of her wooden interior would have to go and she would be required to have fire sprinklers throughout.
May father was singing on the Queen Mary a wonderful ship i am trying to find the old footage film he took and photos. As soon as I find them I will try to transfer them so everyone can see them . Yes indeed I to feel that dry docking and leaving the engine intact would have been been a better solution . Sadly there is no turning back only memory's of the days that are no more ! Kind regards Alexander
In 1971 my friend worked as a ticket taker in the Queen Mary parking lot. We were in high school. At the time, Jacques Cousteau was putting in a museum there and parked there every day. My friend was being a real asshole one morning and would not let Mr. Cousteau in without paying for a $5 day parking pass. It really pissed him off and after telling him ''But I have a museum on that ship'' and asshat saying ''$5 bucks or get out, pal'', Jacques threw a $5 bill at him and roared into the parking lot.
Honestly, I feel the Queen Mary would serve a better purpose as a diving site and lagoon off the coast of Long Beach, it would be a better fate than having everything that made her a ship ripped out.
I would have LOVED to see her magnificent yarrow boilers and the other amazing things they took out. I wish they had kept ALL of her original parts.

Or keep her where she is and build a tank and drain the water (like a dry dock but permanent)
@@Marked2429 That would be the sensible thing to do, but will they? Probably not.

if it wasnt for them queen mary would have been SCRAPPED
@@randomrazr No. That is incorrect. The city of New York would have bought her and converted her into a floating high school.

My buddy Billy used to sing in a barbershop quartet on the Queen Mary. We were just talking about it.

Those color interior shots though.
Would have loved to tour the ship before they began stripping it.
great video
A shame, yes, what they did ...but at least QM is still here in some form...remember the fates of Normandie and beautiful sister Queen Elizabeth..
Some good video footage, but it could really do with some sound to bring it alive.
titanic
Would have been interesting if they put a bowl out bow and 7 to 6 bladed props on THE QUEEN MARY 👸 HINTSIGHT IS GREAT HUH?
Whatever they took out of the ship they need to put it back because it is making it brutal and it's week now no cuz of that
Once I went to the Queen Mary and I went to the propeller room and I nearly fell in the water
You'd have to be doing something pretty dumb (like hanging on the railin) to be able to fall in.
