V-LED Switchback LEDs

- V-LED Switchback LED bulbs installed in my 2003 Tacoma Truck. These replace the turn signal bulbs in the bumper. The stock bulbs normally only light as turn signals. These bulbs let them operate as driving lights (mostly for looks) and turn signals. I have used several different switchback bubs in the turn signal position and I am currently using www.amazon.com... They work well, are inexpensive, and support the "CK" sockets in our Toyotas.
I did a how to article at Tacoma World on this.

@danny62217 Besides the bulbs you need to run 12V down to the sockets so the white LEDs have power. Do a Google search for "tacomaworld 1st gen switchback LEDs" for an install guide.
@TheJake0308 Any HID with a 5000K color temperature should come close (assuming you bought the same VLED bulb that I did (5000K). VLED does sell a more blue switchback also). I didn't want to go to HID (don't like the less focused beam that most tend to put out) so I went with the Philips Diamond Vision H4 bulbs "5000K". These are not U.S. DOT approved due to the color temp, but match well. I ordered them from nigel-jdmparts and they had them shipped from Japan. I like Philips bulbs.
hey so Im going to buy this off of v leds.com and when you and checking out it says qty 1 is that one set of 2 light or just one light?
Just a quick question.i been folowing your article but i can see the information on how you made parking light blink with the signal..thnx
@danny62217 The Switchback LEDs I added are in the bumper. These use to be just turns signals, but are now turn signals and driving lights (DRLs). My truck did not come stock with the headlights setup as DRLs (some do and run about 1/2 power when the truck is on). The corner lights (next to the headlights) are just standard amber bulbs (921 bulbs).
Dude I'm going crazy so I did the two steps he said and I got a 01 I already had led tail lights and I did that ground to tail light to a bolt and none of it worked. Do u have any clue what I should try next?
@danny62217 I added a link to the how-to article in the description of the video.

Hi, could you do that job for me on my 2002 Tacoma I live here in Dallas Texas I'm interested I like how your Tacoma looks with those lights?
@danny62217 That white/blue LEDs turning off is built into the bulbs. AKA "Switchback". When you turn on your turns signal, the white LEDs go off and the amber flashes on/off automatically. V-LED has type 2 and type 1 styles. One type flashes between amber and white and the other is like mine where the amber just flashes on and off. I get the 12V off a 12V circuit that comes on with the ignition. I used a quick-splice connector. Do the google search and read my article on Tacoma world.
what socket are the corner lights? 194? I would try to retrofit in some 3157 or 1157 sockets into the corner housings and put some switchbacks up there too, or at least replace them with an led it wont have that fade effect like the incadesent lights.
did you use resistors or did you get a led flasher so your blinkers didnt to hiper flash?
i made custom led blinkers and brake light for my 01 tacoma im going to post a vid soon.
@danny62217 The orange/white blinking versus the orange on/off is the type of bulb you buy. You can by type 1 or type 2 bulbs from V-LED. One type is on/off and the other is white/orange.
Hay I got my lights n they are cool I hooked up the power from the running light but I have a prob when I hit the brakes the white goes off did u have this?
@pinoykillaz That was a personal project using a microcontroller and other circuitry. For less involved way, do some searching on Tacomaworld and Customtacos. Many people replace the parking light bulbs with a dual filament bulb. That way you can have the parking lights on, but they will flash with your turn signals. You can find details on those two websites.
Also for future reference could you please put Switchback LED'sType 2 in the title, its hard to find vids of these as most people have the type 1 amber white flashing units which I find to distracting
@nate3535 I did have that problem. It was an interesting problem to diagnose. Follow the link in the description for the video. Post 14 talks about that problem and links to the full story on why it happens and how to fix it.
@nate3535 I modified my blinker relay/circuit so I didn't get hyper flash. Basically I made it into a led flasher/relay by replacing the current sense resistor with a much higher value.
@N6EAJ ok i baught the same bulb 6k instead of d 5k have u even ran to this problem, running DRTL using signal in about 5 min (switchback begginin to get warm) the white starting to flicker.i called vled they said its manufactre defect they sent me another pair it still the same.let me knw tnx
I was just wondering where the cigarette lighter connection is to hook it up to that and how did you connect the wire to the cigarette lighter.
Did you change the plug for the corner light to make it blink with the turn signals?if so where yoe get the plug?or how do you modified?
I made a circuit to light the corner lights when the turn signal wasn't going, but flash the corners when the turn signals were on. It used the stock bulb socket / bulb or LED bulb replacement. It used a microcontroller and a MOSFET to control power to the corner lights. I ran the turn signal wires to the circuits so they could see when the turn signal is going. I imagine it works similar to the internal circuitry on switchback bulbs.
@@N6EAJ too complicated for me i want to do it but would need to see how to be able.
@@juangonzalez9112 If you can find a bulb socket to fit into the corners with three conductors (two filament), then you could use a amber/amber switchback (amber on, then amber flash on/off). I think some people would drill out the corner bulb opening so they could silicone in a different socket.
@@N6EAJ
Ok,that sounds more easy i think thats what iam going to do,thanks for your help.
@N6EAJ ty for the response and ty for description i just done this mod on my 2006 tacoma prerunner.now i also found couple ploaces to buy relay for LED which fix hyperflash.my question does this switchback bulb also work on my 2006 tacoma?
Is there a tutorial video for fog light mod on 1st gen tacoma??
Look at the 2nd link in the description (VLED is where I bought them from). The original bulbs are no longer sold by them, but I have a link to the newer versions (that I haven't used).
That extra wire to turn on the white on the switchback bulb is connected on the corner +.
Man u inspired me, got these and insalled them thanks to u! Witch hid bulbs match the vleds ?
Where did you buy this kit from? I was trying to find it for a long time

Did you use the bulbs for the ck socket?
Yes, if you want to use the stock light sockets you need the "CK" bulbs. It looks like VLED no longer sells the exact bulbs I used. I looked around for an equivalent bulb from VLED and it looks like they have one. I'll put the link in the video description.
N6EAJ
so just replace the light bulb for ck ones ?
How did you hook it up?
I have a write-up on Tacomaworld. See the last link in the video's description.
