Me, too. I'm trying to find something out about the band, I've never heard of them. This is one of my super favorite songs (REM), but this version is so apropos for the TCM thing. I'm going to keep looking for some info.

What a downer of a song. The original by REM was such a lovely, HAPPY song! And it was used as a song for a sad scene in Grey's Anatomy? Whhhyyyyyy.....?
This song, is “actually” about the Chinese government, clamping down on the student demonstrators, and the hundreds of people that were killed in Tiananmen Square. Not “really” a happy song, if you look it up.😓. Song was released a couple years after it happened in China. “Shiny Happy People” was taken from the Chinese propaganda posters that were being used, to con the world into believing something very different was going on.
