Not many(if any at all) female singers out there past and present as good as this woman..she's been nailing it for decades now ..what a great singer and artist. That sound is instantly recognisable.
I personally think this is one of the very best singles Alison Moyet has released in her Solo Career. This Indie Rock vibe in the song really suits her voice. She is also looking BETTER than she has EVER looked in any of her Solo Music Videos.
When I Was Your Girl also features an intriguing video, starring Moyet’s own daughter. Walking along a pier, the singer eventually stands in the shadow of her daughter, occasionally gazing towards her. This adds a touch of sentimentality to the track and suggests that Moyet is reflecting on past times throughout the song.
Still the best female voice on the planet. And given the quality of some of 'em (Adele, Paloma) that's saying something. Actually, prolly best voice, regardless of gender.
Trust me - men can bring the passion. But that artistry is something I always admired in Alison Moyet, and as you said, her way with making the most of lyrics.
Alison moyet is without doubt the Best female singer in the uk, I'm so looking forward to the music she will have produced during lockdown , she just as good as live and let's hope this covid-19 will sod off and we can resume normal life, I would love to see her perform again
Heard this on the radio today and thought, 'That sounds like Alison Moyet!' Was thrilled when the DJ said it was her song from a new album. I'm soooo getting it. Loved her in the 80s!
What an amazing song! I loved it since I first heard it. I hope it becomes a hit in the USA, but I doubt it. I have shared this song with my friends and everyone loves it...I wish they started playing it on the radio! Miss Alison, you have fans in Louisville, Kentucky!!
Alison since 1981, my inspiration to sing later in life, same kind of struggles, incredible woman! Great voice! Love her! Thnx Alison!! Love from the Netherlands 🇳🇱 💕 🇬🇧
The female voice of a generation returns with a cracking new track! welcome back Alison! At last a proper female singer! Her daughter is strikingly like her!!
I feel very, very proud that she comes from Essex. I remember her from the early 80's with Yazoo. She has come a long way, and always kept her talent and modesty. She did a spot on Graham Norton's chat show on BBC1 recently and she was brilliant; a classy lady.
Alison - one L - is the real deal, but Adele, though undeniably good, is way too self-aware while singing, you can almost see her mentally high-five herself whenever she hits a top note.
This is such a beautiful song. I fell in love with Alison in 1982 and I have enjoyed every song that she has released both with Yazoo and solo. She has always been as beautiful as her voice and her voice has always been incredible. I believe that Kim Strasburg's comment below hits the nail on the head as to the meaning of the song. She uses her daughter in the video to contrast her youth and her older self.
I'll see her for the very first time at the Royal Albert Hall on the 3rd of April with my father ( my present for him for Christmas ). Already sooo impatient and excited to see and hear this brilliant woman! We'll travell from Belgium/Brussels, where we live. ps : Alison deserves still more succes!
Absolutely wicked track. Welcome back Alison. Cant wait to hear the whole album. If anyone says she is not a talented song writer and singer think again.
Shot on Southend Pier. That's my home town as well as Alison's. The town was wonderful during my childhood in the 70's but went downhill when they tore the Kursaal fun park down. The Kursaal appeared in the classic 60's series 'The Prisoner'. BCNU
Great song. I was lucky enough to see the album tour in Manchester and also to get a signed copy of the CD when it was first out. Daughter is very much like mother (and that's a good thing)
Welcome back Alison Moyet x The music industry needs great artists like yourself to offer an alternative to just commercial music sang by 18-23 year olds.
Stunningly unique voice. Alyson Moyet is one of the most respected artists in the industry......the type that other artists go to see and are inspired by. A fantastic 'come back' single from a tremendous album.
New time, new age. Alison had fame in the 80's when I was a teenager and I understand today's teens who cannot relate to her. Does it really matter? She has talent and this is why she is still in the business today, and this is what matters!
Not many(if any at all) female singers out there past and present as good as this woman..she's been nailing it for decades now ..what a great singer and artist. That sound is instantly recognisable.
SPOT ON!!!
Still absolutely brilliant live ❤🎉

Southend pier, where I live. Longest pier in the world.
It's actually the longest pleasure pier in the world at 1.1/3 miles long. I've walked it many times
Still beautiful and a vocal genius.....she's been moving my soul since the early 80s.
I'm glad that there is so much love for Alison, her voice, her music. She deserves it.
I love her!

Still the best female voice on the planet. And given the quality of some of 'em (Adele, Paloma) that's saying something. Actually, prolly best voice, regardless of gender.
no.
I was going to post a comment on your answer but, for one of the 1st times in my life, realised it wouldn't be worth it.
Thank you for that.

@@alisonfernandez1172 fact
Alison - one L - is the real deal, but Adele, though undeniably good, is way too self-aware while singing, you can almost see her mentally high-five herself whenever she hits a top note.
Much better than adele
I have to disagree, Adele is the Alison Moyet of this generation
