I have ALWAYS wanted to know how they did all those gorgeous old style cartoons and backgrounds in the 1930s & 40's . I didn't' even think of watercolors! Now that I see it, I cannot stop unseeing it! I just learned something today! For that, you get a Like/Subscribe/Bell

Hopefully they'll teach me these types of stuff from art class at high and college. I want to make these types of background for my career but it really ain't gonna be easy...

I read somewhere that their early works used somekind of resin based secret compound paint and indian ink?

Around that time watercolor paint had a different formula, creating more vibrant colors. I still need to find out what that formula was.

Digital painting is getting close to the real deal but it’s not there yet. These digital remakes are good, and they look like almost like real watercolor. Give these digital tools 5-10 years then maybe we’ll get there.

Thank you so much this was SO helpful! How does the paper texture work?

You import the paper on the top layer of your drawing and set the blend mode to multiply. The brushes I use also have paper texture in them.

Question. What tool did you used to sketch out the background?
