Tiktok has by far been easiest to gain followers and views. Got 6k followers within weeks of starting. Over 500k views on a recent video 🤯 It's taken a few years to get a fraction of that on UA-cam and Instagram. Currently 15k on tiktok and it's only been a year of uploading very sporadically.

    • @christianbosse_

Yeah, I busted my booty for 4yrs just to get to 10k on IG, but my first video to take off on TikTok got me to 1k within 4 days of posting it. And, at the least, I can trust that even the low engagement videos will still get roughly 200-400 views. I don’t even get that on IG with the 10k followers that I have.

    • @tinalarosa
      @tinalarosa 2 роки тому +3

This is so true! I have over 6k on tik tok and I barely post! It’s easier to get views, likes, comments, and followers! Working toward 10k! Instagram I can hardly get any followers!

I’m realizing this today! Posted the same reel on IG and tik tok. IG only showed it to 84 people out of which 18 liked. Tik tok showed it to 10,000 people and I gained 100 followers in 1 day! I took me 2 months to do that on IG .

I still have a strong community on IG, so I'm there, but I just don't appreciate the decline in reach (unless it's a Reel lol). I miss the days of photos being important, but as a UA-cam girl, I get that video is where it's at. I'm enjoying TT overall! Great comparison, Jade!

Jade, you made some valid points here about focusing on one platform at a time. I recently discovered boost app social, which kinda helps with managing multiple platforms. It doesn't solve the focus issue but certainly makes juggling between Instagram, Tiktok, and UA-cam a bit easier.

I've been on IG for YEARS trying to grow a following for both my art and personal accounts, and for a while now -- I wanna say the last couple years -- my posts and even my reels have been flopping HARD. Some posts will struggle to get even 5 likes when I have 400-500 followers on both accounts. Since starting TikTok, my art account had a hit and I gained a thousand followers in the span of a week. And though small, my personal account is getting consistently 200-400 views there, while on IG those same videos are getting literally zero. For me, it's gotten to the point where IG is a complete after thought -- I don't even open it to scroll anymore -- just because the reach has been so abysmal.

Love your in depth analysis! My strategy up until now was creating more of a thought out, planned content on IG reels (that's mostly relevant to my account) and I publish it on TikTok as well. And then on TikTok I also do silly filter challenges etc. I have also noticed that TikTok really doesn't show content that I upload on it (vs. content I create on the app). Even if I filmed it in TikTok and reuploaded it will still get up to 10 views (compared to a few hundreds, sometimes thousands on videos created on the app). This is kind of frustrating because I often edit in CapCut or similar apps, even for simple cuts, and this just doesn't get seen at all.

  • @christinefrazier

Instagram emphasis is on the the creator and you have a deeper connection with followers. Tiktok is an interest algorithm so you don't necessarily care about the creator as much. As a creator it's not guaranteed your tiktok followers will see your posts. On instagram your followers have a higher likely of seeing your posts.

The algorithm of all social medias value consistency. The thing is that the IG algorithm can show your content to more niche audience, which ain't happening at TikTok, and that is unfortunate. Still it depends what your strategy is, but for me Instagram is the platform with more potential so far.

I was late to TikTok (just joined 8wks ago) and I actually find it easy to do 5+ tiktoks a day. I might take a day to rest every now and then but I find it easier to post. I think it’s bc I loved stories on IG and love to connect with people that way.
IG’s lack of engagement pissed me off. All the changes and hoops to jump thru are so annoying. Not only that but as an influencer/content creator most companies want TikToks rn so it’s important to be on there anyway.

I was thinking about creating a new Instagram or keeping the same one but unfollowing some people that don’t really engaged at all like some friends. I don’t want to cause any harm to no friendships. I want to get started with my purpose. I do have a good following and somewhat of engagement. Any suggestion the next steps to take ?

Reasons why instagram isn’t that great
    1. They focus on money too much just like Facebook
    2. Still no iPad app when they came out way before TikTok
    3. The instagram messaging notification always turn off for no reason.
    4. There are a lot of those female instagram users who think they are so much better than you.
    5. Trying to find a date on instagram is depressing for most men
    6. TikTok is so much better. It gets more features and it’s just overall better experience. I use instagram because a lot of people use it not because I want to use it

They're calling 25 year olds millennials? These titles be so arbitrary 😅 I'm 33 and my paying customers are on IG without a doubt. Millennials are definitely late 20s and above. I see millennials as the MySpace generation. Was too young for that lol. I’m 24 and only relate to millennials because I have an older sibling 😂. But yeah Tik tok doesn’t push my content at all (new algorithm?) Instagram is better and actually much more valuable business wise. Tik Tok followers generally aren’t loyal. You have to rely on constantly going viral

@@aohamer haha that’s sick😂 I love Erykah badu Lol. This isn’t exactly like MySpace but you can add music to your stories on Instagram and then add those stories to your highlights. It’s the closest to having music on your page like MySpace 😂😂 I do it on my page but I dunno if it would be appropriate if you’re selling a physical product 😂But yeah I think Tik tok is abit overrated when it comes to growing a business/creating a loyal fanbase. I’ve heard stories of Tik tokers with loads of followers have no one turn up to their vid con 😅 but it’s definitely a fun app and the content on there inspires me lol. Traffic is easier but UA-cam and Instagram are much more powerful platforms. I just think people complain because they can’t grow as quick😂

Instagram is experiencing a slow death, due to it's TERRIBLE software that freezes, and limitations certain users experience like, the ability to use reels, filters, posting multiple pictures and more.
Tiktok is great BUT the software is very slow and tends to freeze as well. Either than that, I enjoy tiktok, you trend and go viral effortlessly without putting much effort. You get to work with brands much quicker because one video will be on the "billboard" and you'll earn followers quicker. I love tiktok, i just wish they improve their software.

Their Facebook Manager is awful, and I can't get my shop to work... but I need a Facebook shop to get my Instagram shop to work! Aaaaargh!!!! I was doing really well on Instagram with 110K followers, but as i posted still photos like most of my counterparts, we all took a hammering. Yes tiktok is better for growing your plateforme but it’s more for entertaining and it’s a very young audience. People on tiktok are not looking for things to buy and the videos that works the most are people doing stupid, funny thing or nudity so not the good target. If your business target young adult/adult you should definitely stay on IG because the 27-30 ish are not really going on Tiktok

Ehh I’ve seen a lot of accounts blow up on TikTok that aren’t during “stupid, funny things or nudity.” I think in general TikTok is more for that real-life experience/strangers-becoming-relatable vibe and IG is more for showcasing specific, curated moments (typically highlights).

Hard to say, I’m more familiar with IG however I stopped growing on the platform years ago and despite trying to network on it, my engagement still in the low single digits. Tiktok on the other hand, despite a smaller account, my engagement is astronomical. However certain IG reels (about 10 percent) outperform my TikTok’s by more than 3-5 times as much. So really for me, I think that for now, it’s IG just because I’m more familiar with it, but over time, it may take the back seat to TikTok
