One of the best back exercises you can do for building thickness is the bent over barbell row. Most people do this move with a regular overhand grip which works more of the upper and middle back.
But to work more of the lower lats you should use a reverse grip. Reverse grip barbell rows are a favorite back exercise of former Mr. Olympia Dorian Yates and he had one of the most muscular backs in the history of bodybuilding.
Now you can use a regular straight bar for doing reverse grip rows, however a lot of people (myself included) find the straight bar hard on the hands and wrists. So a great alternative that works the lats hard, but places less strain on your hands / wrists is using the EZ curl bar for reverse grip bent over rows.
All you have to do is grab the EZ curl bar just the same as you would for a set of bicep curls, but instead of curling the bar you are going to bend over at the waist with your torso at a 45 degree angle with the floor and row the bar to your stomach.
Let the your arms extend all the way down for a full stretch at the bottom of the rep, and row the ez curl bar all the way up until it touches your belly button, and purposely squeeze your back hard with each rep.
Give this exercise a try in your next back workout and leave me your comments and feedback below...

Thanks Lee, for sharing this variation of bent over rows. I've normally done these type of exercises with a straight bar, but I will definitely try it out with a EZ bar.

One of my favorite new exercises!
It really does feel “E-Z” per say but the pump and burnout is real!!!

You have to focus on pulling the berr with your elbows ; your arms are just like ''hooks'' to the bar and you row like if you want to touch your elbows together.

This exercise must be good for your bone density too. When I do it, I can feel my entire body being stressed. bones get denser when more stress is applied to them. I think a former king of England was a lifter and after he died centuries ago, some anthropologist looked at his bones. His bones were heavier than usual.

It's a great way to achieve a good lats workout if you're not able to do bodyweight pull-ups for example.

Try working your arms separatly with dumbells or one arm at the time on cable machines, for example. Over time, your smallest arm will catch up with your biggest one.

I'd like for you to compare this type of row with the low-row machines. Mine has you sitting up, and the hands are low, but vertical. Unfortunately in my gym we have a few free weights but a good assortment of machines. If you can, after showing a free weight exercise, doing the same on a machine would be helpful to me. Thanks!

Since biceps are a bit involved in the movement, it might happen, but the key is to focus on working your back and not your biceps so if you do the exercice correctly, the chances are to a minimum.

  • @Bubumartel
    @Bubumartel 10 років тому +1

It all depends on your goal ; high reps will work the endurance, low reps will work the strenght and a middle reps range will work hypertrophy. A good way is to cycle between reps ranges.

Under hand grip rows/deadlifts are also very dangerous for biceps. So many bodybuilders and powerlifters have tore their biceps in those exercises.

    What's up Lee?
I have a question for you. I am pretty new to weightlifting and I think I am doing fairly well. I am having one problem though. I when I do Lat excercises like Lat pulldowns, rows, dumbell bent over rows etc. I don't feeling anything at all really in my lats like I do when I work my arms, chest or shoulders. I just pretty much feel it in my bicep and even a bit in my forearm. Any tips (btw my main goal is not bodybuilding but just athletic performance).

u should always have atleast 50 grams of carbs tbh alot of people are still ketogenic at 100+ carbs so it depends on u and how many carbs u can eat like me i eat 500+carbs daily on a bulk and i would be pretty ketogenic on 100 carbs per day for 5 days
