    I’m from Georgia and graduated HS in the late 90s. The fall after I graduated and started college, I got a part time job at a call center for credit cards. I sat next to a very pretty white lady, late 20s who was married to a black soldier and they had 2 kids. She told me how her entire family disowned her for marrying her husband. They had not seen her children, their grandchildren at all. I could tell she was hurt. I’ll just never forget that, but wasn’t surprised. Even in the 90s I remember white girls liking us black boys but it was always a secret. We could never tell anyone that we were messing around.
    We are friends on Facebook and she and her husband are still married and had 2 more kids. She posts a ton of pictures of her grandkids. You can tell she dotes on them, perhaps because of how she was treated. I don’t know if she patched things up with her side of the family though. I hope she did.

I’ve seen them even have kids with the opposite race still practice racism. Happens every day. I have been called the N-word by white woman with a black stepdad and black children. It’s heartbreaking to still read that there is such deep racial segregation in the USA. That’s one huge reason why Prince Harry’s marriage no one batted an eyelid. In fact not one person I know thought MM was mixed race. To call our nation and commonwealth racist is just mind blowing. *Reproduction and Resistance
      Women knew that enslavers valued and depended upon their ability to bear children and increase the slave population. With this understanding, enslaved women participated in acts of resistance specific to the labor demanded of them. From avoiding sexual intercourse, to terminating pregnancy, to taking the lives of their own infants, some women resisted slavery by working to control their participation in producing more enslaved children. New mothers risked eventual separation from their children, and if they had daughters, they knew any sexual violence they had experienced could become their daughter’s experience as well. Women used this kind of resistance, therefore, to combat slaveholders’ control over their own bodies and protect their potential children from the horrors of bondage. Women also used their knowledge of plants and medicine-knowledge passed down generationally-as a means of preventing pregnancy and attempting to induce abortions. Medicinal herbs were also used by the slave community to regulate menstrual cycles and assist in births. Their gender-specific knowledge and cultural practices resisted dominant cultural norms. Women’s actions also provided empowerment and control over their bodies. On cotton plantations throughout the South, including Sea Island cotton plantations in the Lowcountry, women chewed cotton roots to prevent pregnancy or end a pregnancy already in progress. Once free to discuss these secretive forms of women’s resistance, formerly enslaved people across the South and South West discussed the commonness of deliberate abortions among the enslaved population. Many slaveholders therefore forbade women from possessing cotton roots and when they discovered enslaved women chewing or storing cotton roots, women paid for their resistance with violent beatings.Women also used herbs and tinctures to regulate their menstrual cycle in order to better track when pregnancy was possible. They also breastfed-sometimes against the slaveholders demands to stop-in hopes of lessening the chance of becoming pregnant.Reproductive resistance among enslaved women illustrates how enslaved women sought to challenge and defy their enslavers in whatever ways they could. The efficacy of their resistance varied depending on the method. However, enslaved women’s decision to avoid or limit their number of pregnancies reveals their commitment to caring for their own bodies and controlling if and when to bring children into the system they endured.

    If they did this show topic today, year 2023, the people on here would've been CANCELLED or fired from their jobs for being racist. 😅 this is what I liked about the 90s, people with different viewpoints could talk on a public platform and wouldn't have to worry about being attacked by the public for having differing (at times hurtful or conflicting) opinions.

      @naev.3344 na today Foundational Black Americans would agree we should seperate. Integration was a detriment to our people. We are not our elders who fell for this set up. It is white people who make consistent commercials of biracial families. We do not promote that. It has never been a benifit for our people to have children with an open enemy such as Caucasians and the honorary whites from the rest of the world. We do not promote even having children with africans or asians etc. It is rare with our people to be with these people

      @@mikejones-wn1swAbsolutely agree. We are continuously bombarded with interracial commercials with mixed children and degenerate filth in lyrics on mainstream radio for our children to hear. If you've noticed, there are also billboards popping up in white areas that talk about the dangers of opiod addiction and always use a black person's face, like they aren't the ones that have been addicted for decades. Same thing with billboards showing "pregnant and scared" and using a black woman's face. I'm sick of it. We have got to get something going that turns the tides to all of this backwards madness. Too many broken homes inflicting mental trauma on our children's minds.

      The reason it impacts their jobs today is because it financially hurts the person being affected by racism and the company's brand. A racist person might be a leader at a company and refuse to higher women, poc or disabled ppl. That impacts ppl in that groups ability to make money even if they are qualified for the position. The comment loses customers if found to employ racist ppl as well as losses the ability to have a diverse workforce. Diversity matters in a workforce because has been proven statistically to generate better ideas, solutions, and innovation.

    • @naev.3344
      @naev.3344 10 місяців тому +4

      @@brespeed3633 i get what you are saying, as you are saying something the media states regularly about diversity in the workforce. However, I don't agree that a racist will not hire someone different. There are plenty of racist cooperations out here that don't mind using POC for labor or as clientele (for our hardearned money) but you won't see black or brown faces sitting at their private dinner table or hanging out with them after dark. A great example of this is the all the American wars leading up to WW2, blacks were fighting in the war alongside whites because they needed more bodies - all the while they were still lynching and barring blacks from whites only spaces. Blacks were American enough to fight in the army and pay taxes but not American enough to dance at the 50s sock hop with Johnny and Billy Jean.
      I do agree - You are right, the diversity did lead to some huge victories with black fighters like the Tuskegee Airmen changing the course of history but did it change the views of the racist? No. Imo at least it was no secret that someone was racist back then and that's better than someone smiling in your face pretending to like you when they are only tolerating you or using you as a token to fill some diversity quota.
