I was a Boy Scout a long time ago, and this brought back memories. I wonder if there are any Boy Scouts left in the world today. Thank you Blackie. . .
Sure there are still Scouts - now it’s called Scouting USA and admits girls. You could volunteer and help pass on your skills and outlook on the value of woods skills.
I am a second generation Eagle Scout. Disappointed we didnt have a good troop where I live and so my son lost interest. However, He likes going into the woods with me, so Im trying to teach him.
Blackie, Thanks for sharing this great Tip and Trick for making things easier and better always making things smoother in the outdoors. Thanks Again. I am going to buy four of your books when they go to print.
Greetings Blackie- Well done video on this method. Ive seen another similar video, but yours is better in my opinion. I did see how Dave Canterbury had attached 2 toggle sticks to a basic ridgeline with the 2-3 prussiks on it. I would imagine their are many ways in using the toggles that can work. Thanks Blackie for another video. You be good-
hey bro I've been your follower for a long time, this is an excelent trick, just to thank you for the inspiration, let me tell you that 2 weeks ago I have the same idea and uploaded a similar video with this concept on my channel, using your idea of the toggle (I hope you don't mind) to tighten a ridgeline with absolubtly no knots, not a single knot, you know sometimes we use other people's ideas to make inspirate improvements... So Thanks for the inspiration... you have a very good channel. greetings from Mexico.
I made a few toggles but to be honest it would have been faster to tie knots than to find a good stick to cut and cut notches. So I now keep a few toggles in my cordage pouch to keep them ready.
That's cool Blackie but why not just use a bowline at one end and a trucker's hitch at the other? Cinch down the trucker's hitch and you have a very taught ridge-line. Why go through all the trouble with the sticks, etc.?
I love the boat cleat style toggle and that is why I have one on my main ridge line but for a backup I have the figure 9 tool in my gear and will use a marlin spike at the first anchor point. It seems to be the fastest way to me. As always, this was a good video and we appreciate all you do 👍
The situation could be that this was a 20 foot line made from tying two inner strands from a 10 foot piece of paracord from an old paracord bracelet that was popular for a while there. Or paracord wrap on your hiking stick. And that your tarp is just an old sheet used as a picnic blanket. You will get wet if it is a hard rain. But maybe that is all you had unless it was a waterproof picnic blanket. Pocket knife, lighter and 10 foot of paracord will generally get you through the night. You can boil water in an empty soda can if nothing better can be found. Even making a cup out of aluminum foil and using duct tape to stiffen it up and rock boiling water is better than nothing.
@Blackie Thomas - This is an absolutely invaluable video for anyone who is unfamiliar with all the tricks of the great outdoors that you bring to the table. They're my favourite, and so are you, and I dearly hope there's so much more to come of this magnitude. Lastly, I haven't seen a Patreon link or donation button for you and/or your channel. Do you have one and I'm missing it, or you haven't made one just yet?
I see the point of the second toggle. But, I can tie a bowline or marlinespike knot quicker on the first end, And use a plain toggle with or pass the lie through the Bowline faster. But, another item for the bag of ideas. I'm sure it will come in handy some day. Thanks!
Nice but I never understood why people don’t just make a bowline knot with about an 8 inch loop then passing the line through it on the starting tree…even with this toggle system you would only need one and the not is easy to untie . Have fun stay safe.
Have Used This Trick For YEARS. ! So much so that I can't remember any of the classic knots taught in VERY overpriced ohio "survival schools" by teachers of stolen military valor. HINT: you can forgo the notches if you just wrap the cordage around the tree, trap the wood toggle, then use the "Figure 8" cleat wrap (as if it were a boat at the dock). SUPER tight.
ua-cam.com/video/ehX9OBva5Vg/v-deo.html Blackie I know you can come up with some improved system of these here jungle knots. Shout out to greencraft. No need to cut cord could just larks head around toggle. Great for hanging equipment with your bushcraft twist ties or toggles. I love it as its a pegless clothes line. Simply slip clothing through the spaces. I use two toggles on another peice of paracord to tension it properly like your Ridgeline (thats my addition) 😉. Cheers blackie
@@BLACKIETHOMAS Well right now I am using 1000 lb Paracord overkill but I wanted to be able to use it for as many things as possible. With 550 Paracord prusick loops to hang the hammock from it. Then I am either going to use your toggle and prusick loop attachment around the tree or your no tie in line boat style tie out. Something to take down easy. I guess chain doesn't fit in to the Bushcraft seen but I have never seen anyone just put a chain around the tree to hang their hammock from
love the knowledge. The more skill and knowledge, the less equipment needed.
i will try to do more skills videos as the summer heat rolls thru.. safe journeys everyone

thank you for all your support
This is a really good idea and set up. If you don't want knots in say your utility or spare length of cord
correct that way its the spare and not pre set up..

Swiss Army knife saws are no joke. They work great.
yes they do
Hey Blackie!!!!!!
hello there
My only problem with this, is it takes me less time to tie the knots. But this still works well.
thanks for watching
@@BLACKIETHOMAS absolutely!

DOOD!
The one thing I have never seen that I have started to do is hang my hammock from my ridge line by prusick loops.
if the trees are strong enough and the ridge line was strong enough and did not stretch too much it could be done
@@BLACKIETHOMAS
